CHAPTER 40: CHAPTER 40: CHARLOTTE SUMMERS IS TRULY VICIOUS

Outside the courtyard.

The nanny was happily chatting with a few people, completely ignoring Yvette Aston’s plight.

A black car drove in, startling the nanny into standing up straight. "You... Young Master Ethan."

Why had Ethan Grant returned at this time?

Usually, Ethan Grant never comes back at this hour.

Ethan got out of the car, with a little boy following him.

The nanny’s face turned pale with fear. Wasn’t this the little bastard born to Yvette?

"Young Master, how come you..."

"Where’s Yvette?" Ethan asked in a deep voice.

"Haven’t... haven’t seen her," the nanny quickly shook her head.

Summers glanced toward the backyard and rushed over upon hearing noises of things being smashed.

The first time he came to the Grant Family, they locked him and his mom there.

"Summers!" Christopher Carter still worried about the little one and followed him.

The warehouse was locked from the outside, but it was clear there was someone inside.

"Open the door!" Christopher shouted.

The nanny’s hands trembled with fear, not daring to open the door.

"Can’t you hear?" Ethan’s voice was low and threatening.

"Young Master Jayden... said not to, not to move," the nanny hurriedly invented an excuse.

Ethan’s expression darkened, realizing something was wrong.

He quickly walked over and kicked the door to the warehouse open.

Connor Carter came charging out, eyes red, wielding a stick, clearly agitated and out of control.

"Yvette!" Ethan ran inside, frowning at the dusty warehouse.

In a corner, almost buried under debris, Yvette Aston was breathing weakly.

She no longer had the strength to respond.

Summers ran toward his mother’s direction.

Ethan’s heart tightened as he hurriedly lifted the wooden plank off Yvette, gasping as he saw her barely breathing, covered in blood.

Summers stood in place, his stuffed toy fell to the ground.

Christopher instinctively covered Summers’ eyes.

For a five-year-old child to see his mother lying there in a pool of blood, his first reaction wasn’t to cry, but his eyes quietly reddened.

This reaction made Christopher’s adult heartache, and he spoke to Summers in a much gentler tone. "Summers, your mom will be okay. Let’s go outside with uncle, alright?"

Summers was silent for a long time before quietly asking, "Uncle, is my mom going to die?"

His question was too calm.

"Why would you ask that? Of course not." Christopher picked up Summers and walked out, ignoring any thought of him being dirty.

"Mom said... Dad is a hero, fighting monsters in outer space, and she said she might have to go too."

Christopher’s steps faltered, looking back at Ethan carrying Yvette out.

Ethan remained silent, his expression grim.

Christopher knew Ethan was very angry right now.

Screams echoed from the courtyard.

Christopher, holding Summers, walked out to see Connor Carter, out of control, beating the nanny, Tracy Warren, with a stick.

"You damn woman, trying to harm me? No way, I’ll beat you to death."

"I’ll kill you!"

The nanny was beaten to a bloody mess, crying and pleading for help, but no one dared to approach Connor now.

If the security hadn’t arrived in time, the nanny might have been beaten to death.

Ethan, holding Yvette, got into the car, giving Christopher a cold glance. "Call the police, find out who locked Yvette and Connor in the warehouse. There are surveillance cameras in the courtyard as evidence of her attempted murder, get a lawyer, and file charges."

The nanny turned pale with fright, crying and begging for mercy. "Young Master Ethan, please spare me, it wasn’t me, it wasn’t me. It was Charlotte Summers who said Connor was mentally ill and locked him and Yvette in the warehouse. It has nothing to do with me, please spare me."

Ethan gave the nanny a cold look. "If Charlotte Summers is the ringleader, then you tell the police that."

With that, Ethan shut the car door.

Nearby, three bodyguards struggled to restrain Connor, who was still shouting about killing the nanny.

Yvette weakly opened her eyes to glance outside the car window, her gaze deep.

Ethan looked intently at Yvette for a long time, intrigued.

The reason Charlotte Summers had people lock Yvette and Connor in the warehouse was very clear; it definitely wasn’t just to take Yvette’s life.

Connor Carter, nearly forty, had no women, and the reason for his frequent manic attacks and harming people was because of his violent behavior towards women.

This Charlotte Summers... was truly malicious.

Yet, despite Yvette being injured, her clothes were intact, showing no signs of violation.

It indicated she wasn’t as timid and unaware of resistance as she seemed.

Moreover, with Connor Carter’s manic episode, he rushed out of the warehouse, his target clearly being the nanny he then beat violently...

"I’m quite curious, what did you say to Connor?" Ethan’s interest in Yvette was piqued.
