The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 51: Ethan Grant Must Marry to Gain Real Power
CHAPTER 51: CHAPTER 51: ETHAN GRANT MUST MARRY TO GAIN REAL POWER
She indeed doesn’t know what use it is to keep the so-called dignity.
In Meridia, her reputation has rotten to the core, everyone knows she’s dirty enough to bear a child for a wild man, but only she knows she just... it was only that one night.
Her reputation is tainted; she’ll never be clean again.
As long as she can make money, save enough for Summers’ medical expenses, she can do anything.
Holly Ziegler was a bit shocked, not expecting Yvette Aston to agree.
During those five years in prison, no matter how the few people in her cell bullied her, humiliated her, she was unfazed, dignified, and never begged for mercy. No matter how much pain she endured silently without a word.
Unexpectedly, just a few days out of prison, she figured it out.
"Try it with me for a month first, do something else. I’m afraid your body... might really get worn out." Holly sighed, paid the driver, and got out to help Yvette with her things.
Yvette didn’t have much to take, just a few clothes sent over by Caden Summers when she went to prison.
"Thank you... thank you, Holly."
Yvette quickly expressed her gratitude.
"Thank you for what? Come to Montville, if there’s anywhere I live, there’s a place for you to shelter from the storm."
The snow was falling heavily, and Holly’s long hair was coated with a layer of snow.
Yvette reached out to touch her own hair; once shoulder-length, it was cut short after she went to prison. It hadn’t been cut for half a year and now barely reached her shoulders.
"Holly, do you have the chance to contact Henry Jennings from Apex Group?" Yvette asked softly.
Holly climbed up the stairs of the rental house, cursing as she went—those uncultured people throwing dirty things all over the corridor; it stank.
She looked back at Yvette and gave a laugh. "Who? Our Montville’s richest man?"
Yvette said nothing.
"Opportunities on TV, on your phone, in the news, I suppose." Holly thought Yvette was joking.
Yvette’s eyes were full of disappointment.
How could she meet Henry Jennings?
"Our club is the largest and most high-end place in Meridia. I heard there are shares from Apex Group above, and several executives from Apex do like to come here and play, but I have never seen Henry Jennings, only on financial magazines. If you want to meet him... it’s not impossible, but you’d need luck."
Holly knew a bit about Yvette Aston.
If it were another woman, she might laugh at her for being overambitious, dreaming foolishly, but Yvette was once the eldest daughter of The Aston Family in Meridia. Naturally, she had access to many people.
After all, Yvette’s ex-boyfriend was Young Master Grant from the Grant Family, Jayden Grant.
Yvette’s eyes lit up, and she smiled at Holly. "Thank you, Holly."
"When we were in prison, you were fond of saying thank you. We’re all people rotten in the mud now; there’s no need for such formalities." Holly raised her chin, looking at the trash in the corridor. "See? This is the place where people like us belong."
Yvette looked stunned at the dirty, rotten garbage but said nothing.
...
Meridia, Grant Group.
"Mr. Grant, the financial summary for last quarter, please have a look."
"The project Jayden Grant is in charge of has expenditures of 120 million, what’s the return rate?" Ethan Grant frowned, a bit displeased.
"Young Master Grant’s team said... the return rate shouldn’t be the focus in the initial stage."
The secretary was somewhat afraid.
Ethan Grant sneered. "Not looking at the return rate, is he doing charity?"
In Ethan’s opinion, Jayden Grant is foolishly unaware of his own stupidity.
"So... should we thoroughly investigate the direction of these funds?" the secretary asked softly.
After all, Jayden Grant and Ethan Grant are brothers; a thorough investigation of the fund’s route might affect their sibling relationship.
"Investigate, but don’t alert them." Ethan Grant sneered coldly, he trusts none of the Grant Family members, including his father Arthur Grant.
"By the way, Mr. Grant, President Jennings from Apex said next month’s Veridian Chamber of Commerce’s gala is in Montville, he’s hosting, inviting you to Montville." The secretary checked Ethan’s schedule. "Last year’s chamber gala was in Meridia, hosted by you, President Jennings is reciprocating this time."
"Just a display of power." Ethan Grant said blandly. "Arrange the trip."
The Jennings Family in Montville and the Grant Family in Meridia have cooperated sincerely but competed secretly for so many years.
Henry Jennings is a clever man, but Ethan Grant always feels his intentions are dubious. Compared to Henry Jennings, Ethan prefers his brother Elias Jennings.
The secretary nodded and left the office.
"Mr. Grant, we still haven’t found Yvette Aston’s whereabouts, but The Aston Family has been here many times. You didn’t meet Stellan Aston, and he even went to see Mr. Grant." Christopher Carter sneaked into the office, a little embarrassed.
Obviously, Arthur Grant was troubling Christopher.
Ethan Grant leaned back in his chair, cold eyes on Christopher. "No meeting."
"Mr. Grant, don’t be stubborn, you haven’t received shares from the old man yet. Until you marry, your position is temporary; only after marriage can you truly have authority." Christopher was terribly anxious. "Jayden and his mom are eyeing those shares, and now upsetting Mr. Grant is not good."
Moreover, it’s for an unrelated child.
Summers being beaten is indeed heart-wrenching, but Ethan Grant is a Grant, and he must weigh heavily on what’s important.
A token gesture would do.
"Before Yvette Aston is found, I won’t meet anyone from The Aston Family, including Jayden Grant." Ethan Grant said sternly, warningly pointing at Christopher. "Say one more thing, and you’re out."
