The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 53: Henry Jennings Tells Yvette Aston to Raise Her Head
CHAPTER 53: CHAPTER 53: HENRY JENNINGS TELLS YVETTE ASTON TO RAISE HER HEAD
Montville, The Nightfall Club.
Holly Ziegler brought Yvette Aston into the club, giving her a relatively easy position at the front desk.
Yvette Aston had good looks, fair skin, and a nice figure, making her quite eye-catching at the front desk.
"At the front desk, appearance is important, but it can also attract trouble. If a client gets drunk and bothers you, don’t provoke them, just call me, understand?" Holly Ziegler, now the sales director of the club, had the capability to protect Yvette.
Yvette nodded. "Okay, I understand."
Holly glanced at her phone, then called over a few pretty girls to entertain the guests.
"Hey, Mr. Ziegler, why haven’t you been around lately? What do you plan on drinking tonight? It’s on me."
The chubby man laughed, wrapping an arm around Holly’s waist. "Can I let you pay? I have some friends with me today. Find a few lively ones to join us for some fun."
Holly smiled meaningfully, following Mr. Ziegler into the elevator.
Yvette stood at the front desk, thinking of the instructions she received from Human Resources, carefully memorizing the faces of a few key clients. These people were wealthy and not to be crossed.
"Where are you from? You’re too good-looking to be at the front desk—such a waste," another front desk girl, Xiaoya, asked with a smile.
Yvette smiled. "I... I’m from out of town."
"An outsider, huh? I’m one too, I’m from Quirktown. The scenery there is particularly beautiful." Xiaoya was cheerful, not particularly pretty, but her smile was infectious.
"Let me tell you, the front desk pays just over four thousand with no commission. You’re so pretty, if you accompany guests for drinks—not doing anything else—you could make twenty to thirty thousand a month." Seeing Yvette silent, Xiaoya asked why Yvette didn’t join the companionship service.
Yvette shook her head. "I’m allergic to alcohol."
Xiaoya understood. "That’s unfortunate, but it’s okay. We earn less, but it’s steady work."
Yvette glanced at the young girl, asking quietly, "How long have you been here?"
"Me? I came right after graduation, nearly four years now." Xiaoya secretly handed Yvette a piece of gum.
Yvette thanked her and quietly inquired, "In these four years, have you seen Henry Jennings from Apex?"
The girl’s eyes grew wide. "Seen him, seen him! Did you know our club is backed by Apex? If President Jennings has friends over, he comes here. He’s our biggest client. Didn’t Miss Larson tell you before you started?"
Yvette breathed a sigh of relief and shook her head.
Since she was brought in by Holly, the HR trainers gave Holly face and didn’t explain much.
"I just got word from the manager that a big shot is coming tonight. We’re supposed to wear the uniform. I’ll go get the outfits in a bit."
Yvette nodded.
Working at the front desk for now felt stable. The company provided dorms, and Holly, as the sales director, had a private one, allowing Yvette to stay with her and benefit from it.
Calculating that after working the whole month, on the fifteenth of next month, she could get over three thousand in salary. She’d keep five hundred and send the rest to Caden Summers.
She wasn’t sure how Summers was doing recently. She missed her son but didn’t dare call him for fear that hearing his cries might tempt her to go back.
"Yvette, you should go change. You’re tall and slim, so I got you a size S. See if the skirt is too short; here are the shoes."
Xiaoya brought Yvette a pair of crystal high heels and a cheongsam dress. Even the front desk had to maintain a uniform image at the high-end club.
"Remember to put on some makeup. The makeup room is over there, and you can use my cosmetics freely." Xiaoya, already made up, looked different altogether.
Yvette was taken aback—makeup...
She realized that she didn’t know how to do it at all.
After five years in prison, she had never worn makeup, even before, where stage makeup was applied by stylists.
Entering the makeup room with the clothes, Yvette first changed and nervously looked at herself in the mirror.
The cheongsam was long-sleeved but too tight, showcasing her figure almost perfectly...
Yvette’s neck was long, resembling a swan’s, refined from years of ballet, and was fair.
Her face was perfectly petite, fair, with black hair tied behind her ears in a small knot. Except for her pale lips, she was almost perfect.
Especially her long legs.
Standing at 169 cm, she wasn’t exceptionally tall, but her body proportions were perfect. Her legs were long and white, though marred by bruises and dark marks not fully healed yet.
Taking a deep breath, Yvette pulled the skirt down forcefully, but her legs were too long. The cheongsam skirt’s slits ran to her thighs, nowhere near enough to conceal.
"Yvette, are you ready?" Xiaoya opened the door, momentarily stunned by Yvette. "Yvette, did you study dance?"
Yvette said nothing, feeling a bit uneasy.
"What’s that on your legs..." Seeing Yvette’s bruises, Xiaoya asked softly.
Yvette bit her lip, lowering her head without speaking.
Xiaoya fished a new pair of flesh-colored stockings from her bag. "Put these on."
"Thank you..." Yvette whispered her thanks as she accepted them. "I’ll buy you new ones tomorrow."
"No need to be so formal. You have a good base—just put on some lipstick and come out quickly. Miss Larson said the VIPs are arriving, and we need to greet them."
Yvette nodded, quickly putting on the stockings, slipping into unfamiliar high heels, and applying lipstick given by Holly.
Her complexion looked much better, and Yvette cautiously stepped out.
"Ah, just lipstick without makeup?" The etiquette department’s Miss Larson stared at Yvette in astonishment. "This... what a waste, such a waste, standing at the door to greet guests is a waste."
Yvette felt embarrassed and looked down.
"Quick, to the door, the Veridian Chamber of Commerce banquet is starting soon, and they’ll all be VIPs, so everyone stay alert!"
At the mention of the chamber banquet, Yvette’s nerves instantly tightened, and her breathing became uneven.
Feeling unsteady, Yvette walked to the door, her face becoming increasingly pale.
Six years ago, she attended a banquet hosted by the Veridian Chamber of Commerce in Meridia.
That banquet was a nightmare for Yvette.
When the truth about her fake identity came out, everyone ridiculed her, defamed her; she was like a clown, standing at the banquet scene for people to mock.
And that was exactly what Stellan Aston wanted to see.
"Yvette! The guests are here. What’s wrong?" Noticing Yvette’s condition, Xiaoya whispered.
The etiquette receptionists were at the front, and Yvette followed behind, absent-minded.
"President Jennings, this way please."
Miss Larson approached with the others to welcome them.
"How’s the reorganization work at the club recently?" Henry Jennings’ assistant asked. "The banquet is being held here, so let’s not trouble President Jennings."
"Rest assured, we’ve hired and trained a lot of people recently; there won’t be any trouble."
Henry Jennings walked into the club with a solemn face, not even glancing at the etiquette ladies standing on either side.
The Jennings Family’s status in Montville was no less than that of the Grant Family in Meridia.
Seeing Henry Jennings, Yvette panicked and lowered her head.
Actually seeing Henry Jennings left her at a loss.
She didn’t know how to approach him.
If she were to ask directly now, she’d likely lose her job.
Henry Jennings took a step forward, then suddenly stopped, stepped back, and paused in front of Yvette.
Yvette, frightened, tried to hide by looking down, but Henry Jennings blocked her. "Look up."
