The Growth of a God
Chapter 203 11: The Mountain God's Duty (2/3)
Mountain and Sea Realm, Southwest Border, the center of Yunmeng Marsh.
After a detailed explanation and introduction from Chi, David finally understood what kind of world he had arrived in.
This is a world that universally believes in the great Creator, a new world saved by the Creator from the "Apocalypse."
In this world, "Wisdom" does not exist as a unit bound to a race.
Whether it be an Epic Giant Beast or a tiny ant, they all have the potential to nurture an exceptional individual possessing wisdom.
Frankly speaking, when David heard this notion which completely shattered his worldview, he was skeptical.
Because, in his understanding, wisdom is often tied to race, and he had never heard of a dog possessing intelligence equivalent to a human.
Until David encountered a multicolored deer.
When David saw the astonishment and fear in its eyes, he realized he must abandon the common sense from his original world and approach everything in this world with a fresh perspective.
After all, according to Chi, even stones in this world might nurture wisdom.
Of course, all of this is merely what David saw and heard in Yunmeng Marsh.
In truth, outside of Yunmeng Marsh, there is a group of already civilized and culturally advanced intelligent races.
They call themselves the "Hundred Races of Mountains and Seas," and beings like Chi directly refer to them as the "Mountain and Sea People."
They are a civilization entity composed of hundreds of different races.
Every intelligent being that leaves Yunmeng Marsh can choose to join them, even beings like Chi who claim to be "Gods" are no exception.
Regarding this, David, born in the Cyber World, was not particularly shocked.
For the Gods of the Cyber World never exalted themselves either, and they exist within the network in a very approachable manner.
The crucial point now is that existences like Chi are merely ordinary members of this civilization and not the elite or leaders David understood them to be.
"So, why don't you join the 'Mountain and Sea People'?"
From Chi's words, David could unmistakably hear her yearning for the outside world.
If it weren't for a strong sense of curiosity and thirst for knowledge, Chi would not have appeared to guide and explain the rules of this world to David at the first moment.
"Because I am the Mountain God of Yunmeng Marsh!"
Chi said proudly, gently landing on a large tree not far away.
"I have the responsibility and obligation to guide all creatures in this mountain forest, making them understand the significance of their existence."
Gently rotating his mechanical body, David spoke in a tone of realization.
"I see, your duty is to let the intelligent beings born in this mountain know that there is a group of 'Mountain and Sea People' outside of Yunmeng Marsh just like them?"
Tilting her head slightly, Chi nodded noncommittally.
"You could understand it that way, but my duty is far more important than you imagine."
"My existence makes the forests of Yunmeng Marsh more lush..."
"My existence nurtures more intelligent life in Yunmeng Marsh..."
"My existence can even determine the prosperity and destruction of Yunmeng Marsh."
Hearing this, David finally understood why Chi referred to herself as a "God."
In a sense, Chi truly is a God of Yunmeng Marsh, just like the Cyber Gods in the Cyber World.
"So where are we heading now?"
After understanding Chi's identity and his current situation, David curiously glanced around.
This seemed to be the heart of Yunmeng Marsh, a place where the canopy could obscure the sky.
Even with all the detection devices David carried, it was difficult to capture the full view here.
However, this was not a problem for David.
With a simple adjustment of his built-in life wave sensor, David discovered the "secret" of this large canopy.
This is no forest!
This is clearly an unimaginably enormous ancient tree!
Yes, this canopy covering hundreds of kilometers is merely the shade of a single large tree.
Realizing this, David, whose heart was inexplicably shocked, looked in the direction indicated by the life wave sensor and suddenly noticed the terrifying "Life Force" that seemed to blind his Prosthetic Eye.
"We are heading to Elder Rong, it might have a way to help you."
Hearing this, David was momentarily stunned, then immediately seemed to realize something and asked.
"Elder Rong? You mean this big tree?"
This time it was Chi's turn to be taken aback, glancing at David in surprise.
She never expected that this guy from an Exotic Realm could see through the truth of the forest at a glance.
"You are right, we are now standing on Elder Rong."
Although he had guessed, hearing Chi say it still left David silent.
The wonder of "one tree forming a forest" truly exists in this world.
"It is said that Elder Rong is the first tree of Yunmeng Marsh, planted by the Immortals who came here at the beginning."
Though David hadn't asked anything, the chatty Chi had already begun to explain fluently.
"The Immortals are the Creator's Messengers, incarnations of wisdom..."
"Although most of them have already gone to the 'Brilliant Realm,' their traces are left in every corner of the Mountain and Sea Realm."
"As the first tree planted by the Immortals in Yunmeng Marsh, Elder Rong possessed its own wisdom long ago."
"Elder Rong learned from the Immortals, grew with the Immortals, and even many Mountain Gods and River Gods of Yunmeng Marsh have benefited from it."
"The trees you see now actually grew from Elder Rong's root system."
"If anyone besides me in Yunmeng Marsh has the highest wisdom, it must be Elder Rong!"
Coming back from his silence, David glanced at Chi with a bit of speechlessness.
Although their time together was short, David had already discerned Chi's personality.
The previous introduction about Elder Rong was certainly true, but that last sentence of Chi's was definitely self-praise.
Fortunately, David had no intention to rebut and instead was completely drawn to the content she described.
"So Yunmeng Marsh has many Gods like you?"
"Elder Rong is somewhat like your... teacher?"
After mulling over his words, David finally extracted a relatively appropriate term from his brain database.
"Uh, you're not wrong in saying so."
"After all, including myself, everyone grew up under Elder Rong's care."
Before the words finished, Chi suddenly pointed and shouted.
"We've arrived! There's Elder Rong!"
