The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan!
Chapter 43: Accepted
CHAPTER 43: CHAPTER 43: ACCEPTED
Paige Sterling said to Skylar Hughes, "Suddenly, I’ve realized you’re not entirely useless. At least, you have a knack for attracting idiots."
Running around dressed to the nines to swindle people, she felt a tad guilty.
But since the other party came to her, there was no need to feel guilty anymore.
Besides, those items really are the real deal, aren’t they?
If they get damaged, of course, they should be compensated.
That night, Jared Sullivan took a heap of fragments and went to the Dunn Family.
He had to stand up for his daughter no matter what, otherwise, what’s all his effort for? Isn’t it all to prevent his daughter from being bullied?
On the other hand, Dylan Dunn quickly forgot about the day’s events after getting home.
Paige Sterling is no longer popular, and she’s withdrawn from the scene, so what could she do to him? His family had a little wealth anyway. Is he really afraid of Paige Sterling?
However, that evening, unexpected guests arrived at his home, and he recognized Jared Sullivan at once: the chairman of VastReach Group, and Skylar Hughes’ father.
Could it be Skylar Hughes told her father about him pursuing her, so Jared Sullivan came to his family?
Dylan Dunn thought of this and hurried out to show his presence.
But Jared merely examined him for a few moments and said to Mr. Dunn, "I didn’t expect your son to be that kind of person."
Dylan Dunn was utterly perplexed.
Mr. Dunn glared at him, then forced a laugh, "It’s our child’s fault, President Sterling. I’ll make sure he visits you next time to apologize personally to your dear daughter."
"There’s no need for that, your son’s apology isn’t worth much. Just compensate for my daughter’s loss, and that’ll be enough."
And then Jared left. Dylan Dunn realized he barely understood the conversation between his father and Jared.
Mr. Dunn also found himself barely understanding Jared’s words.
What does it mean to compensate for the loss? Does it mean they have to pay?
Would the dignified chairman of VastReach be short on money?
After sending Jared Sullivan off, he pondered while walking back into the house, seeing Dylan still loitering in the living room, instantly darkened his face.
Dylan Dunn remained utterly puzzled; he saw that Jared Sullivan’s visit mustn’t be for anything good.
But he hadn’t done anything to Skylar Hughes, had he? Would Jared really come to hold him accountable just because he liked Skylar Hughes?
At this point, Mr. Dunn walked up to him and asked, "Tell me, did you bully the Sterling family’s daughter outside?"
Dylan quickly said, "Dad, I didn’t! I’m friends with her, how could I bully her?"
How could Jared Sullivan have such a misunderstanding?
He hadn’t touched even a finger of Skylar Hughes.
"Still denying? If you hadn’t bullied her, would President Sterling come looking for us? You little rascal, usually doing nothing is one thing, but now you’re causing trouble everywhere outside—do you realize, because of you, a project I was about to clinch is gone!"
He finished, glaring and slapped his son a few times.
Dylan was dumbfounded by the beating; he hadn’t done anything!
"Dad, I’ve said I didn’t bully her, how could I bully her? Her father must have some misunderstanding!"
"Misunderstanding? They sent a surveillance video for me to watch. Could the chairman of a big company possibly forge a video to extort you?"
After speaking, he threw his phone.
Dylan was even more bewildered watching that video.
"Did you see that? You broke their daughter’s bracelet worth twenty million! You even spoke insolently; how did I end up with such a foolish son?!"
Although outsiders had never seen Paige Sterling’s daughter, who didn’t know how doting Jared Sullivan was on his daughter, often mentioning her every time he was out?
Yet, this foolish son of his had managed to ruin the connection he painstakingly made with VastReach Group; he almost wanted to beat this son to death just thinking about it.
Dylan was still struggling to comprehend.
"Dad, this is President Sterling’s daughter?", not Skylar Hughes? Was Jared not coming for Skylar?
"Of course, it’s their daughter, wouldn’t they come personally otherwise?"
Mr. Dunn sighed, "I didn’t realize this celebrity is President Sterling’s daughter."
This is like the real-life scenario where if you don’t succeed in the entertainment world, you’re forced to inherit the family business, isn’t it?
No wonder she withdrew from the scene with such confidence before.
Dylan Dunn now questioned everything.
Paige Sterling is Jared Sullivan’s daughter?
Wasn’t it supposed to be Skylar Hughes? Plus, Skylar had never mentioned they were sisters?
Furthermore, hadn’t it been said Jared Sullivan had only one daughter?
Maybe, Skylar Hughes wasn’t really Jared Sullivan’s daughter?
Because Skylar Hughes’ mother’s surname was Hughes, he always thought she followed her mother’s surname, but it turns out not to be the case.
All this time, Skylar had never once explained it to him.
Paige Sterling is the Sterling family’s daughter, and yet now he’s offended Paige, implicating his father’s business in the process.
Dylan found himself truly foolish, mindlessly going wherever Skylar told him to strike.
Mr. Dunn couldn’t wait another moment, fearing his son’s stupidity might really cause Jared Sullivan to bear a grudge, and the next day, personally took Dylan to the Sterling Family to apologize to Paige.
Yvette Hughes and Skylar Hughes weren’t home.
Jared Sullivan chuckled, "Our Beau is in a bad mood recently because of the broken bracelet, so it’s inconvenient for her to see guests."
"It’s okay, it’s okay, if Miss Sterling is inconvenient, we can come another day, but President Sterling, since it’s our rascal boy’s fault, Miss Sterling shouldn’t bear the loss. Here’s thirty million, would you..."
Is it enough?
Originally, he thought Jared would surely refuse to accept the money, as Jared wouldn’t lack tens of millions.
Yet Jared eagerly accepted the check, "Then I’ll accept it on behalf of my daughter first."
Mr. Dunn, "..."
Jared took the money, causing Mr. Dunn heartache, still he breathed a sigh of relief.
This at least meant Jared wouldn’t hold a grudge anymore.
"Well then, President Sterling, about our collaboration..."
Jared remained smiling politely, "Business matters, we’ll discuss it another time."
Mr. Dunn, "...", he knew it was dead.
Two days later, when Paige Sterling went out for dinner, she ran into Skylar Hughes again.
As Paige Sterling sat at her reserved spot, Dylan Dunn showed up at the entrance.
Skylar Hughes saw this, and curled her lips.
Dylan Dunn should be coming to defend her, right?
With his aggressive demeanor, he definitely wouldn’t let Paige go unscathed.
The thought of Paige making a fool of herself filled her with glee.
As for what Dylan Dunn might suffer due to offending Paige Sterling, that was beyond her consideration.
However, what Skylar never expected was that the scene she envisioned didn’t occur.
