Chapter 61: Meeting a Friend
CHAPTER 61: CHAPTER 61: MEETING A FRIEND
When Paige came out, she saw Julian again, looking as polished and bright as ever, as if he had never suffered from insomnia the previous night.
As she was heading out, Julian noticed Paige had put on light makeup and was wearing a new dress.
Was she going to see Austin Xavier?
Julian felt a pang of jealousy bubbling inside him.
"Where are you going?"
Paige changed her shoes at the entrance, "Going out to meet a friend."
"Is it a guy or a girl?"
Paige glanced at Julian, while he avoided eye contact, "Don’t forget we’re having lunch together at noon."
Paige responded with a light laugh, "Got it."
Julian resisted the urge to follow Paige and drove off to work.
Paige went to see Summer Xavier, it wasn’t anything significant, she was just handing over the company’s share contract to Summer.
Summer looked at her speechless, "I’ve told you, there’s no need to give me shares. We shouldn’t worry about such matters between us, right?"
But Paige insisted, feelings were feelings, money was money.
She valued their relationship, so she wanted the money aspects to be clear.
Summer knew Paige was stubborn, so she signed the contract. Paige checked the time, it seemed late and time for lunch.
"I have an appointment, I need to go."
Summer saw her rush off, and said, "I actually have something to tell you, don’t hurry."
Paige replied, "Let’s chat on WeChat then."
Summer nodded, okay.
Then suddenly realized, "Wait, I haven’t added you on WeChat yet, please accept my request."
Paige abruptly stopped, turned to Summer, "You didn’t add me?"
"Yeah, I forgot."
Paige, "...?"
Then who is the Summer Xavier she recently added on WeChat?
Somehow, Paige thought of someone—Julian.
Actually, it was simple to find out if it was Julian, she could hack through and find all traces of the person online.
But she couldn’t do that.
That noon, Paige didn’t go find Julian; she sat in front of her computer all afternoon but didn’t get anything done.
In the afternoon, she went to Julian’s company and happened to see Julian and Simon Hawthorne coming out from the elevator in the parking garage.
Paige honked the horn.
When Julian looked over, she rolled down the window.
Simon instantly smiled, Julian had been looking upset all afternoon and it had chilled him, but now the clouds had cleared.
"Paige, it’s you, my brother and I are going to have some drinks, you want to join us?"
Julian frowned, glancing at Simon.
To everyone’s surprise, Paige nodded, "Sure."
Julian pursed his lips, Simon gently nudged him, "Big brother, let’s take Paige’s car, get in."
They say truth comes out after drinking; Paige agreed, how could Julian not seize this chance? His role as a wingman was truly exhausting.
Julian finally said, "I’ll drive."
"I’ll drive, you sit in the front seat."
Julian sat in the front passenger seat, Simon sat in the back and hid out of the rearview mirror’s sight, resolutely deciding to be invisible.
The younger brother went to such lengths, truly to the best of his abilities.
Paige drove very slowly, neither Julian nor Paige spoke in the car, making Simon feel tormented.
"Paige, maybe I should drive?"
Paige raised an eyebrow, "Why?"
Simon, "You’re driving so slowly, I’m getting dizzy."
"Want me to speed up?"
"Yes, yes, yes, speed up."
"You sure?"
"Sure."
Paige chuckled, "Buckle your seatbelt and sit tight."
After Paige said that, she slammed the accelerator, and the car speed suddenly surged.
It was just past peak traffic time, and Paige chose a route with fewer cars, the speed was enough to scare someone witless.
Simon clutched the handle tightly, his face distorted with fear—he was afraid Paige wouldn’t be able to brake or properly accelerate!
"P-P-Paige, don’t drive like this, I’m scared!"
Paige pretended not to hear and continued speeding.
Until they arrived at the bar, Simon immediately rushed out of the car to throw up.
Paige sneered, "Your brother is not only weak, but he seems to lack courage."
Julian hummed, "He’s inexperienced."
In key moments, what’s a brother?
Paige got out of the car, Julian followed behind, only then noticing her dress was a bit wrinkled at the back.
Paige didn’t pay attention to such small details, but Julian instinctively walked over and gently tugged at the hem of her dress.
Paige gave him a strange look.
"Julian, what are you doing?"
Julian, "Your dress was wrinkled."
He spoke so sincerely, as if he was just doing her a small favor, as if at the moment he tugged her dress, he hadn’t thought about pulling her entire dress off.
When Simon came in, the drinks had been served.
Simon poured drinks for the two of them, Paige took a sip and Julian said, "I’m driving, not drinking."
That made sense.
Simon gave Julian a thumbs-up and started encouraging Paige to drink.
Julian frowned and stopped the bottle, "Drink it yourself if you want, she’s not drinking."
Simon, "...", Big brother, who do you think I’m doing this for? Why are you looking at me as if I’m an enemy?
Paige slapped Julian’s hand away, "Aren’t you’re driving? I can drink a bit, it’s fine."
Her words carried total trust, Julian looked at Paige, gradually withdrew his hand.
"Drink a little bit."
Soon, Simon stopped Paige from drinking, eventually, Simon was knocked out by Paige.
Paige looked speechless, "Why is his drinking capacity so poor?"
Julian, "...", it’s actually because you’re too good at drinking.
Julian felt a slight pang of guilt towards his brother, for not informing Simon of Paige’s impressive drinking skills.
He patted Simon’s head, but Simon suddenly opened his eyes, and winked at him.
Julian, "...", coughed and said to Paige, "I’ll call someone to take him home."
When he stood up, it seemed like he was accidentally tripped by Paige’s foot, leaning towards Paige.
Paige didn’t notice, but Simon clearly saw Julian wasn’t actually tripped; he did it on purpose.
Indeed, every man in a relationship is a master at drama.
Julian fell onto Paige, pushing Paige onto the sofa.
He on top, Paige underneath.
The two looked at each other for a long time, then Paige blinked her eyes, nudged him, "You’re squishing me."
Julian slowly lifted himself up, then sat beside her, and made the phone call.
After hanging up, he said to Paige, "Secretary Jones will be here in a while, let’s wait a few minutes."
Paige hummed, then suddenly sat next to Julian, grabbing his hand.
Julian, "...?"
