Sierra didn’t give up. She could feel Shaun’s cool distance, but she had confidence in herself.
She put on a soft, helpless expression in an attempt to trigger his protective instincts. “Do you hate meb? /bDo you think I’m bothering you and Halseyb?/b”
Shaun still didn’t say a word.
Sierra pouted, pretending to be upset. “I’m sorry. I didn’t bring my keys, so I can’t get home. Halsey’s my friend, and she was kind enough to let mee along. But if you don’t want me here, I’ll leave right now.”
She thought for sure that Shaun would finally speak to her now.
To her dismay, he didn’t. His face stayed calm and unreadable. He treated her like she wasn’t even there.
Sierra’s cheeks flushed with awkwardness. “I-”
At that moment, the fitting room door opened, and the shop manager’s voice rang out. “Mr. Lane, Mrs. Lane is out!”
Hearing Halsey, Shaun immediately set his magazine down and stood up.
Halsey stepped out.
She wore a white wedding gown with an off–the–shoulder neckline that perfectly showcased her swan- like neck and corbones. The widece skirt covered her baby bump just right, while her slender arms and delicate face glowed under the sparkling diamonds, radiating an almost hypnotic beauty.
Even Sierra couldn’t help but be stunned. A woman in a wedding dress really was the most stunning version of herself.
Shaun stared at Halsey, his eyes filled with awe. He didn’t look away once.
The shop manager said, “This dress looks absolutely stunning on Mrs. Lane. What do you think?”
Shaun was so mesmerized by Halsey that he forgot to answer.
“Mr. Lane? Mr. Lane! Hello?”
A few calls from the manager finally pulled Shaun back to reality.
The managerughed. “Looks like there’s no need for you to answer. You’re alreadypletely
captivated.”
Halsey lifted her skirt and twirled. “Shaun, do I look good?”
Shaun stepped forward, his voice soft and full of affection. “Yeah, you look amazing!”
Halsey smiled. “I think sob, /btoo. Let’s go with this one.”
Shaun nodded. “Perfect! This gown is the one. We’ll also pick out the reception gown and a going–away outfitter.”
Halsey raised her eyebrows. “How many outfits did you order?”
The manager chuckled. “Mrs. Lane, Mr. Lane ordered several custom–made outfits just for you. Your wedding will definitely be the talk of the city!”
Halsey felt Shaun’s love and attention in every detail. She smiled sweetly, then nced at Sierra. “Do you think this dress is okay?”
Since Sierra hade along, Halsey wanted to ask politely, just to avoid making her feel awkward.
Sierra forced a smile and praised her. “You’re beautiful, and your figure is perfect. This gown looks incredible on you!”
Halsey nodded. “Thanks. I’ll go change back.”
She followed the manager into the fitting room again.
Sierra’s jealousy boiled over. She felt as if she was only here to witness Halsey’s happiness, and Shaun was even treating her like air.
She couldn’t stand it. She couldn’t ept walking away empty–handed.
Then, her eyes lit up with an idea.
She turned to Shaun, saying, “I’ll just go check on Halsey.”
She stepped forward, but just as she reached Shaun, she suddenly pretended to twist her ankle.
“Oh!”
With a small cry, she stumbled–right into Shaun’s arms.
