bChapter /bb1036  /b

Shaun could’ve driven Sierra straight to the hospital himself, but instead, Halsey bhad /bJocelyn call an

ambnce.

Sierra was loaded into the back while Shaun drove Halsey there in his own bcar/b.

At the hospital, the bdoctor /bcleaned Sierra’s wound. b“/bbYour /bcut is pretty deep. You’ll need to keep it dry bfor /bba /bwhile. And there’s ba /bgood chance you’ll have a scar on your forehead.”

Sierra bfroze/b. b“/bWait, what? A scar? On my forehead?”

She had spent ba /bfortune on her face, and she hadn’t even gotten the full payoff of her looks yet. Nowb, /bher forehead might end up with a permanent bscar/bb? /b

It was like a bolt from the blue. She had nned to use her beauty like a weapon.

The doctor nodded. “Most likelyb, /bbyes/b. bIf /bbyou /bwant bto /bget rid of itterb, /bcosmetic procedures are byour /bonly option.”

Halsey, standing byb, /bnodded politelyb. /b“Thank you, doctor.” (2

When the doctor left, Halsey turned back to Sierra. “You should stay here overnight. They’ll let you out

tomorrow.”

Sierra pulled out a bmirror/bb. /bHer forehead was wrapped in thick bandages, her face pale; she couldn’t ept what she saw.

“Why did this happen to me?”

Halsey sighed. “Shaun hit harder than he should have. But let this be a lesson. Don’t go sneaking into other people’s rooms. It’s dangerous.”

Sierra bit her tongue, her anger boiling with no way to vent.

Finally, she said, “I’m sorry. I caused byou /btrouble this time.”

She softened her voice, slipping back into her fragile act.

Halsey shook her head. “I only let you stay because of byour /bplicated situation. But if you bknow /bsomething’s going bto /bcause problems for other people, maybe don’t do it next time.”

Sierra’s lips pressed into ba /bthin line.

Halsey nced at her watch. “Get some rest. I’m heading home–Shaun’s still waiting for me outside.b” /b

With that, she left.

Sierra was furious. Halsey hadn’te to support herb–/bshe’de to rub salt in the wound.

In a fit of rage, Sierra grabbed the ss off the table and hurled it onto the floor, shattering it. She wasn’t

about to let this go.

Meanwhile, Halsey walked down the hospital corridor. Instead of meeting Shaun right away, she slipped

into the doctor’s office. “Hi, doctor.”

The same physician who had bandaged Sierra stood up quickly. “Ms. Mallin, what can I do for you?”

Halsey lowered her voice. “When you treated Sierra, did you notice anything unusual?”

The doctor frowned. “Unusual? What do you mean?”

“I can’t really exin. She just feels familiar somehow. But I can’t ce her.”

The doctor thought for a moment. “Ms. Fletcher has had stic surgery.”

Halsey blinked. stic surgery? You mean her whole face?”

She had never considered that possibility. She had always had her natural features, untouched by

cosmetic work, so the idea hadn’t even crossed her bmind/b.

The doctor nodded. “Yes. When I cleaned her forehead, I could tell right away. Her face has been

surgically altered by about 90%.”

“That’s a lot!” Halsey gasped. “So, basically, it’s bnot /beven her real face anymore?”

“Yeah, you could say that.”

And suddenly, it clicked.

That was why Sierra felt so familiar but unrecognizable at the same time–because she wasn’t really Sierra. She was someone else, wearing a brandb–/bnew face.

So, who was she?

Halsey’s stomach tightened as a name shed through her mind. Gilbert was already in custody, but there was another person who had vanished without a trace.

Sienna.
