bChapter 235 /b

“What’s going on?” Lily asked, her brows pulling together as she stepped into the living room.

“We are leaving.” Mia’s words came out clipped and rushed as she moved around the living room picking bup /bAiden’s toys that were scattered across the living room floor.

“What are you talking about?” Lily asked again, watching her sister with a mix of confusion and suspicion.

Mia froze for a second, then she turned sharply to look at Lily. Her mind wasn’t even steady right now. Every sound, every movement felt like a threat.

She forced a shaky smile, leaning down to whisper to Aiden who was crouched on the carpet ying with his car. “Baby, can you go to the room for me?”

Aiden looked up at her, his innocent face lighting up with a smile. “Okay, Mama.” He skipped happily toward the bedroom then he stops.

    “Mama can I y pocho?”

    No freaking way

    She wanted to scream….

instead she nods. She couldn’t say no without telling him why…

    Aiden runs towards their room.

Mia’s smile fell the moment he was out of sight. Her shoulders dropped and her face hardened as she turned to Lily.

“Did you tell them?” Her voice was low and using.

“Tell who what?” Lily asked, crossing her arms.

    “The ckwell-”

“What ckwell –” Lily cut her off sharply. “I haven’t even seen any of them. What on earth would I be telling them?”

Mia shook her head, muttering under her breath as she stuffed one of Aiden’s toys into his backpack.

“Mia, what the fuck is going on?”

“They found out about Aiden,” Mia snapped, lifting her eyes to meet her sister. Her voice broke with panic. “Esther ckwell and Jullian ckwell know the truth.”

“What?” Lily’s voice rose in disbelief, her eyes going wide. She sounded genuinely shocked, but Mia couldn’t

    even trust that.

    “How?” Lily whispered.

    “I don’t know!”

“Okay, but what are you doing?” Lily asked, moving closer.

    “I told you…..we are leaving.”

    “Leaving to where?”

“To where we came from, Lily.” Mia didn’t bother to look up. Her hands kept moving, folding and shoving, folding and shoving. She just needed everything packed. She needed to get her son and leave before it was toote.

Lily let out a sharp, disbelievingugh. “To that dead ce? You want to take him back there? What the hell bis /bwrong with you?”

Mia snapped her head up, her eyes red and zing. “What’s wrong with me is keeping my son safe, Lily. I don’t think you understand the concept of caring about someone else more than your own self.”

“Oh, please,” Lily scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Stop trying to sugar coat the fact that you are a coward.”

“Me, a coward?” Miaughed bitterly, her voice shaking with anger. “Coming from you, I’m not offended.”

“I mean, what can you do with the truth anyway?” Lily shot back, her words sharp like knives.

“Whatever you say, Liliana,” Mia spat, her lips curling into a mocking smile.

“Don’t you dare call me that!” Lily hissed, stepping closer.

“What? It’s your name, isn’t it?” Mia mocked again, her voice hard.

“Shut your mouth, you coward bitch! You think you’re so perfect, huh? News sh…you’re not. You’re a coward who is too scared to face the truth, so she’s going to bundle an innocent child into her mess and change his life all over again. He is fucking three!” Lily screamed, her voice shaking the walls.

“Keep your goddamn voice down, you witch!” Mia shot back, her chest rising and falling heavily.

Lilyughs… dark, cold and mocking. It almost didn’t sound human.

“What…. You don’t want him to know that the father he’s been longing for is close?” Lily said, her smirk cruel.

“What I do with my son is none of your goddamn business. He is my son! You don’t fucking love him more than I do, so don’t you dare!”

“God, you’re so fucking stupid,” Lily sneered.

“Coming from you, I’m blessed,” Mia fired back, her eyes narrowing.

Lily tilted her head, her lips curling. “I guess the saying is right then…not every mother is fit to be a mother.”

The words mmed into Mia’s chest like a heavy stone.

She forces herself to look at Lily, her face cold. “I’m sure you also heard..not every woman is meant to be ba /bmother.”

The look of hurt that fell over Lily’s face was sharp and raw.

Mia saw it. And for a moment, guilt pricked her chest. But then she pushed it away. If Lily wanted to hurt her with words, she was going to hurt her back.

“Fuck you for saying that to me,” Lily whispered, her voice trembling, anger mixing with pain.

“Can’t take what you dish out?” Mia shot back, her voice low and steady.

“You better shut up,” Lily hissed, her eyes burning.

“Or what, Lily? Or what?” Mia challenged, her voice rising.

They stood there, ring at each other, the air was thick and suffocating,

The front door burst open suddenly.

Ethan walked in, his eyes immediately locking on the two of them. “Woah, woah, back up from each other. What the fuck?” he said quickly, rushing forward to ce himself between them.

His hands shot out, gently pushing Mia back while keeping Lily at a distance. His eyes darted between them, his face twisted with confusion.

“What the hell is going on here?” he demanded.

“Ask your beloved sister,” Lily spat, her chest still heaving. “She’s about packing her bag to leave the country.”

Ethan turned sharply, his eyesnding on Mia. “Mia?” His voice was filled with disbelief, almost like he was praying she would say it wasn’t true.

Mia’s face crumpled. “His life is in danger.”

“What danger?” Lily snapped from behind Ethan.

“Are you allergic to using your brain or what Lily… If Charles ckwell can still be trying to kill his wife, what do you think he will do to me again? To Aiden! Think, Lily! Think! You were literally the one on my neck warning me not to even think about reaching out to Alex ever again because of that monster’s threat. You were there, you heard him! And now you want me to risk my son’s life?”

Ethan didn’t hesitate. He hooked an arm gently but firmly around her arm, trying to steady her. “Come with me,” he said quietly.

Mia shook her head furiously. “No, you’re not talking me out of this one.”

“I’m not going to do that,” Ethan replied calmly. “Juste with me.”

He turned his head slightly, his voice firmer when he spoke to Lily. “Watch Aiden.”

Mia’s head snapped toward her sister. “You better not say shit to my son,” she warned.

    #IN

Lily rolled her eyes dramatically, pushing past them toward the room where Aiden was, probably still ying happily, pletely unaware of the chaos

Mia’s heart twisted strangely as she watched her sister disappear into the hallway.

It only took minutes for everything to fall apart

    She should have stopped Lily
