Chapter 165 The Line That Was Crossed

Eliza knew exactly what Zayden meant to Grace.

Finished

Everything Grace had done was for her son. If she hadn’t truly reached the end of her rope, why would she go so far as to try and kill someone?

Something deeper was at y here.

But Zayden wasn’t thinking about that. His mind was consumed by what had happened to Grace.

“I’ve said what I needed to say,” Eliza told him calmly. “When she wakes up, I’ll ask her myself.”

As soon as she spoke, Zayden’s eyes dropped to her arm.

The gauze there had turned red with blood, slowly seeping through the bandages.

Zayden swallowed hard. “Did my mom… do that to you?”

“Yes.b” /b

Zayden lowered his head. “I… I hope you won’t me her too much. Everything she did—she did it for me. She has no one else left in the world.”

“I understand,” Eliza said, her voice suddenly ice cold. “But what does that have to do with me?”

Her gaze sharpened. “I’ve never poked my nose into your family’s business. Yet you people keeping after me. What did I ever do to any of you?”

Zayden couldn’t respond.

He knew it had nothing to do with her. She was right.

And his excuse just now had been selfish and weak.

“I’ve said enough,” Eliza continued. “If she can’t give me a good enough reason, we’ll settle this in court.”

Kidnapping. Assault. Attempted extortion.

This wasn’t some civil spat–this was a criminal case, and they’d already given statements to the police.

If it hadn’t been for the ident, Grace would be in a holding cell by now.

Eliza turned to leave.

Zayden called after her. “Eliza!”

She paused.

???? ??? ??? ???

“…I’m sorry.”

In her past life, Eliza had died with regret in her heart because she’d never heard those words from him.

But nowb, /beven when she finally did… it felt hollow.

She said nothing.

And walked out of the hospital.

Outside, Nn was leaning against the car. Nearby, Henry was murmuring to Colton.

“What do you think Elizze wanted to say to Zayden?” Henry muttered. “She wouldn’t even let us listen.”

Colton raised a brow. “You don’t think… she’s still soft on him, do you?”

“Maybe it’s just lingering feelings. Hard to say.”

Lewis gave Nn a meaningful nce.

Sure enough, Nn’s frown deepened.

Then Lewis asked, “But seriously–how did you know where Eliza was?”

They had originally tracked Grace’s car to a beach outside town. But halfway there, Nn suddenly turned the car around and rushed in the opposite direction.

“You two synced up like clockwork,” Lewis teased. “That connection runs ideep/ii.” /i

Just then, Eliza walked out of the hospital and noticed the awkward tension.

“… Were you guys discussing something really mysterious just now?”

Henry quickly waved it off. “Nope. Nothing at all!”

“Yeah, just chatting,” Lewis added with a grin.

Nn’s

gaze drifted to the wound on Eliza’s arm. The dressing was poor–there hadn’t been proper supplies earlier.

b“/bbI’ll /btake you home.”

He opened the door without waiting for an answer.

Eliza didn’t argue. But before getting in, she turned to Henry with guilt. “Henry, I’m sorry. It was your birthday today and everything went wrong. You didn’t even get to celebrate.”

Henry smiled. “Doesn’t matter. We can celebrate whenever. As long as you’re okay.”

Relieved, Eliza got into Nn’s carb. /b

Watching them drive off, Colton scowled. “He just left with her. What are we supposed to do now? You driving both of us homeb?/bb” /b

“You want to wait for Nn’s fancy Maybach or what?” Henry grunted and got into his car.

Colton had no choice but to follow, still grumbling.

Inside Nn’s car, the pain in Eliza’s arm worsened.

She’d held it in earlier, but that knife had gone deep. Even after the quick medical treatment, the wound ached.

Nn noticed her trembling hand out of the corner of his eye.

He pressed the gas harder, speeding up.

Eliza nced at his phone’s GPS. “Wait… this isn’t the road to my ce.”

“It’s my ce,” Nn said tly.

Eliza blinked. “Huh?”

“It’s not safe for you there anymore,” he said. “I’ll handle renting out your ce. From now on, you’re living with me.”

“What?!”
