CHAPTER 159: WHY DO THEIR BREATH STINK?

Afternoon classes finished, and Kai rushed to the front entrance of the Academy. He nearly lost track of time after grinding academy points, having fun at lunch, and overall being debaucherous.

The front gate was packed with students who were going on the field trip. Some were pumped up for the experience, while others were slightly nervous. The guys even took this opportunity to show off to some girls, telling them that they would protect them if anything happened.

’Fucking losers. I bet they’ll run away the moment a ’scary’ monster shows up.’

"Kai, you made it!" Emerald greeted Kai with a smile and a hug, glad to see someone she recognized. She knew people at the school thanks to being a noble and because some of them, including her, attended the Royal Academy before the Hero Academy. But after Kai helped her, she felt the most connected to him.

"Yeah, sorry I’m late. I lost track of time."

"Late? You’re right on time, actually. We’ve only been standing out here for around five minutes."

"What?!"

’Are you serious?! I could have been having more fun this entire time? Dammit. Whatever, it doesn’t matter.’

"Yo, Emerald, long time no see." An annoying, snarky, rude, and pride-filled voice came from behind Emerald. She froze, frowned, then turned around with a disgusted look on her face, her hands clenched and shaking.

"Aaron Cheston. What do you want?" She growled

"What? I can’t say hello to my Fiancé?" He grinned

"Tch! Don’t call me that! I never agreed to marry you!"

"Sure, sure. You have no choice in the matter if we’re being honest. Your family is falling, and the only way for it to be saved is by marrying me. Sure, you don’t have to, but that means the fall of your house, and I’m sure you don’t want that. Do you?" The way he spoke was so condescending that Kai thought he would make a great villain.

"I will save my home on my own!" She hissed at him.

"Yeah, I’m sure that will happen." He laughed mockingly.

"Are you scared?" Emerald smirked

"What?" The look of superiority vanished from Aaron’s face.

"Rudolph failed. While he might not have gotten my family heirloom, he still failed to kill me. Because of that, you have to resort to this stupid marriage proposal. And since Rudolph is dead, you can’t even ask him what happened. I bet you’re soiling your pants thinking about that."

Aaron’s anger rose through the roof, or sky, since they were outside, and he lunged at Emerald.

She wasn’t as strong as he was and would have been at a disadvantage. Luckily for her, her future baby daddy was standing behind her and stepped in before Aaron could do any damage, grabbing his arm before it reached Emerald.

"Hey, let me go, you peasant!"

"Back. Off!" Kai showed off just a small portion of his power, but it was enough to spook Arron.

He backed away slightly, snatching his arm back, rubbing his wrist, and chuckled.

"You got yourself a bodyguard? Heh, no matter. This isn’t over, Emerald." He walked away.

"What a dick."

Emerald agreed.

’So he’s a part of the house that ruined Nadya’s family? Should I kill him? No, no, relax, Kai. The revenge is for Nadya, not me. I’ll keep an eye on him.’

"Alright, now that everyone is here, let me explain what today’s field trip will entail." The professor in charge of the students went on to explain that their goal is simply to understand and kill as many demonic beasts as they could.

While that may seem normal on paper, it was actually extremely difficult. Demonic beasts are different than primal beasts and monsters. They spread diseases, corrode mana, and are wild creatures who lust for blood.

They are also intelligent, able to adapt to environments and even opponents. Lastly, if someone is bitten by a demonic beast, then they have to be treated immediately, or else they will either die or turn into one.

After explaining everything he needed to explain, everyone set out for what is known as the Scarred Valley, the only place on the continent where demonic beasts remained after the many wars with heroes and demon kings.

"God damn! That lawn bill must have been high after cutting all the trees down here." Kai was obviously joking, but to see a dead piece of land so massive that it became a valley was insane.

The ground was without life, no water, and the dirt was extremely hard. Cracks in the soil were as common as air was in the sky. There were no trees, no hint of green or even brown grass, no bugs, and even the air was stale.

"This place really is dead."

"Alright, students. As future heroes, you need to learn how to face these creatures on your own. I have given you all the information you need, and you have experience fighting wild animals, primal beasts, and monsters. Use that knowledge here. form teams, and kill the demonic beasts.

"Would you like to team up?" Emerald asked with a cute smile

"Anything for you." Kai kissed her hand.

"Oh, my. Are you flirting with me?"

"And if I am?"

"I’d ask you to continue." She giggled, pulling out her wand.

’Yeah, I’m definitely fucking her later.’

Kai and Emerald didn’t bother looking for anyone else to join their team. She knew how strong he was and didn’t feel the need to have another teammate.

"Hey, Emerald. Do you smell that?" Kai asked while covering his nose

"Smells like rotten eggs."

Just then, ten demonic hounds leaped from behind rocks and barked at them. A green smoke escaped from their mouth, and green saliva dripped onto the ground, dissolving the dead land.

"Ewww! Ughhh! Their breath stinks! Oh god, I’m gonna puke!" Kai turned his head. The worst part was that Kai’s senses were super enhanced, so he smelled just how bad the smell was.

"They have acid breath! Be careful!" When a hound lunged at Emerald, she shot her arm up, and a large spiked pillar of earth burst out of the ground, piercing the hound’s belly and shot through its back.
