CHAPTER 420: PERSONAL KNIGHT

Elseth led Kai to a door, opening it, which revealed a large dining room. In the dining room, there were seven people eating breakfast at the table.

"Please excuse my entrance, Lord Axel. I have brought the man who saved your life." Elseth bowed.

Kai acted as if he didn’t know what to do and followed what Elseth was doing, giving everyone a nice chuckle.

"Thank you, Elseth. You are dismissed. Take the rest of the day off if you like." Axel nodded

"Thank you, my Lord." Elseth excused herself, giving Kai a wink before she left.

"My savior, please, come, join us. I have to thank you for saving the three of us two days ago. If not for you, my lovely wife and daughter would have lost their lives." Axel walked over to Kai, guiding him to the table to sit.

The table was large enough for eight people to sit at. Axel sat at the head of the table. To his right, his wife and two other men sat. To his left, his daughter and two other women sat. This left Kai with the seat across from Axel.

"Allow me to introduce everyone. My name is Axel Nord, and I am the Count of this land. This is my family. To my right, you have my wife."

"Pleasure to meet you. I am Narmeena Nord. Thank you for saving me." Narmeena smiled.

"Then you have my two sons." Axel continued.

"I’m Beryl. Thank you for saving my father and sister."

"I’m Benjamin. I, too, want to thank you for saving my father and sister."

"To my left, you have my daughter."

"H-Hello, my name is Charlotte. T-Thank you for saving my parents and me." She blushed hard, trying not to stare at Kai.

"And finally, my two daughters-in-law."

"Hello, I’m Brianna." She smiled at him.

"Nice to meet you. I’m Zahria." She also smiled at him, but quickly bit her lips as she thought Kai was sexy as fuck.

"It’s a pleasure to meet all of you. Your family looks awesome! I’m glad you all are able to smile together once again." Kai wanted to feel innocent but also respectful at the same time.

"My name is Kai."

"Haha, well, Kai, it’s thanks to you that we are able to smile once again." Axel laughed. "Please, dig in. I know you must be hungry."

"Really? Thanks, man. You’re the best! I’m starving!" Kai dug in, but he kept himself clean and respectful. He naturally wasn’t a dirty eater, and he wasn’t going to act like he was.

"Here you go, Karumi." Kai gave her some meat.

"Karumi? Is that the name of that Fox on your neck?" Charlotte asked

"Yes! She’s my summoned spirit beast." Technically, she was a spirit, but whatever.

"Wow. I’ve only seen a few people who’ve been able to form a contract with a spirit." Beryl said with fascination.

"She’s cute." Brianna smiled.

"Tell me, Kai. How old are you?" Axel asked

"Nineteen."

The whole table froze for a few seconds. They knew Kai looked young, but looks could be deceiving. They expected him to be at least 25, but hearing that he was the same age as Charlotte really threw them off.

"Amazing. You’re that strong, and you’re only nineteen?!" Benjamin loved martial arts, and he heard how Kai was able to kill the assassins with ease. He wanted to test his power against Kai.

"Are you enrolled in the Institution for Knights and Mages?" Narmeena asked

"Huh? What’s that?" Kai expected that there would be an academy on this continent, so he assumed that this was that.

"It’s a school where the future generations learn how to hone their skills," Charlotte explained.

"Hmm. Nope. My parents taught me all I know. I left home to...Honestly, I don’t even know why I left home. I just wanted to explore, I guess. But then I ran into a food problem. But luckily, I saved you all, and now I’m being fed! Are you angels?"

"Hahahaha! No, we’re not angels. But it’s nice that you see us in that light. Tell me, Kai, would you like a job?" Axel asked

"Will I get paid and have food on the table?"

"You’ll even have a bed to sleep in."

Kai acted shocked. "W-What’s the job?"

"I would like you to become a knight of our family. Not just any knight, though. I would like you to become Charlotte’s personal knight. You saw how my family was under attack. My sons and daughters-in-law are able to protect themselves. My wife and I are protected by my personal army. But my daughter, she’s alone. While she does have escorts, a personal knight, especially one of your caliber, would be great."

"Cool. When do I start?"

Again, he shocked the whole family. Being nobles, they all understood why Axel would ask Kai to become their knight. He was young and powerful with years to grow. Besides, he was handsome, and if Charlotte fell in love with him and they married, then he would be tied to their family even more. He was a safety net.

However, they didn’t expect Kai to accept the offer right away.

Kai wasn’t stupid. He knew what they were doing, and honestly, he didn’t care. He was here for a good time, not a long time, so he was down with whatever.

"Y-You can start today; however, I would like to test your skills. Is that okay with you?" Axel asked

"Sure. What would you like me to do?"

A smirk formed on his face as he stood up from his seat. "Follow me. You all can join as well if you wish."

Kai, as well as the rest of the family, followed Axel as they wanted to see how powerful he was.

Axel led him to the training grounds, where his knights were currently being instructed by Sir Richard.

"We greet Lord Axel!" The knights shouted in unison.

"At ease. Sir Richard, can you do me a favor?"

"Anything, My Lord."

"I would like you to test the strength of Kai. He is set to be Charlotte’s personal knight, and I want to see what level he’s at."

Richard nodded. "As you wish. Bring Kai a practice sword."

"No." Axel interrupted him. "Real swords. Is that okay, Kai?"

"Hmmm. I know how to use swords, but I’m more of a fist guy. And then if I don’t use my first, I use chainblades. They’re short swords that are connected to chains. But my firsts are as hard as iron, so they will be enough."

’You could just breathe on this guy, and he would die.’ Karumi chuckled.

’Yeah, but we have to play the part. Though I’m not gonna lose. Hell, it’s not even going to be close! Also, go ahead and head over to Charlotte. I don’t want them thinking that you’re giving me power or something.’

’Okay.’ Karumi hopped off his neck, then jumped into Charlotte’s arms.

"Oh my gosh! Karumi! You’re so cute!" Charlotte beamed with happiness.

Sir Richard nodded, understanding that people fight in many different ways, and took out his sword, the metal glistening in the sun.

"We have healers on standby if any of you get injured." Axel raised his hand. "Ready.....BEGIN!"
