The Hero of Hypnosis
Chapter 422: Trouble on his first day
CHAPTER 422: TROUBLE ON HIS FIRST DAY
Kai, Karumi, and Charlotte chatted away during the ride to the Institute, talking about their travels and adventures. Charlotte was heavily invested and saw Kai in a brighter light once their conversation was over.
She was so fascinated by the stories that it made he want to become stronger as well. She was studying to become a mage, but wasn’t that good at it.
The tiers of power on this continent were the same as the others, 1 to 10. They also used the same grammar as Sarkylla, so it wasn’t difficult at all to adjust to the terms. Still, Kai and Karumi had an accent compared to the other people, but since he was ’living in the wild’, it was expected.
"We’re here, My Lady." The coachman announced, coming to a halt.
Kai opened his door, stepping outside, Karumi turning into a wolf and hopping on his neck. He walked around the carriage, opening the door for Charlotte, and helped her out of the carriage.
This didn’t go unnoticed either. Many people turned to see Charlotte leave her carriage. She was a beautiful young woman and the daughter of a noble, so it was normal to have eyes on her.
What the people didn’t expect was a handsome young man to be with her today, helping her out of the carriage.
"Thank you, Kai." She smiled.
"No problem. By the way, should I call you Charlotte, My Lady, or Lady Charlotte?"
"Hehe, you can call me Lady Charlotte, but when we’re alone, Charlotte is fine."
"Noted." Kai smiled back.
’Fuck! He’s so handsome!’ Charlotte screamed internally.
"Who is that?" An onlooker asked
"Maybe that’s her new attendant?"
"He’s handsome."
"I’m better looking!"
"Pfft, no, you’re not. You’re not even close to his looks."
"O-Oh."
Charlotte walked in front of Kai, symbolizing her status as the noble and he as her attendant. She had never gotten so many looks before, and she didn’t know how to feel.
It was a bit overwhelming, but she also liked the attention. Of course, she knew Kai was a major reason why she was getting looked at, but still, his handsomeness bolstered her beauty, and she wasn’t ugly in the slightest.
"Oh, Charlotte, welcome back. How was your holiday break?" A woman with blonde hair asked, walking up to her with a man following her from behind.
"Ugh, this bitch." Charlotte said under her breath, rolling her eyes. "Hello, Yulia. My break was just fine, and yours?"
"Oh, you know, just getting letters from the Administration of Magic, breaking through to the 4th tier, and boosting the wealth of my family’s business. What about you? Do anything worthwhile?"
’Wow, what a bitch.’ Kai could feel the tension in the air as Yulia was mocking Charlotte. He didn’t know what past they had, but he assumed it wasn’t a good one.
"No, nothing worth noting. Oh, fun tidbit. I was almost assassinated two days ago. It was crazy! Luckily, Kai here, my personal knight, saved my parents and me. He’s been really great." She made sure to emphasize ’personal knight.’
At first, Kai didn’t understand why she would mention the assassination attack, but then it occurred to him that they might be rivals when it came to who their families supported to succeed the throne.
"Is that so? Well, I’m glad that you’re okay. It would have been a tragedy if you had lost your life. Hmm, so this is your new personal knight, huh? What is your name?" Yulia asked Kai.
Kai stood still, not looking at Yulia, but at Charlotte. Since he was playing the part of her attendant, he was going to be very thorough. Meaning, he would only speak if he was allowed to.
"Hello? Did you not hear me tell you to introduce yourself?" Yulia was starting to get annoyed.
"Lady Charlotte, it seems as if this lady is speaking to me. Do I have your permission to speak?" Kai asked
Charlotte wanted to bust out laughing, but she held it in. "You may."
Kai nodded. "It is an honor to meet you, young lady." Kai bowed. "My name is Kai. I am Lady Charlotte’s personal attendant."
Yulia found Kai’s attractiveness very appealing. She bit her lips, but only slightly and quickly, and wanted him for herself. But she wasn’t dumb enough to act right away."
"Hmm, Kai, huh? A nice name. I am Yulia Folkvangr, daughter of Marquis Freyr Folkvangr."
"It is an honor to meet you, Lady Yulia." Kai showed his respect.
"You’re handsome. Very handsome. Fufu, I’ll be seeing you around, Kai." Yulia turned around and left with her attendant. However, he turned around and glared at Kai with an angry expression.
Kai gave the man the middle finger. "Looks like I already have an enemy."
"Try not to get involved with her. The Folkvangr family supports the Second Prince, while my family supports the Third Prince." Charlotte informed him.
"I understand. So, do I follow you to your class or something?" Kai didn’t know how things worked here. He went to school as a student, not an attendant.
"Ha, no, silly. You will go to the section where maids and attendants are. You could become a student if you want, but I’ll have to ask my father to pay for your tuition as well."
"No thanks. I had my fill with school." Kai had no interest in going back, at least not for now.
"Well, that settles things then. When we enter the building, you will take a left, then the first right, then the first right again. That’s the hall where maids and attendants are allowed to be. You can join us for lunch and activities such as dules, sparring, festivals, and school trips."
Kai nodded. "I understand."
They both walked inside and parted ways. Kai followed her instructions, taking the first left, then the first two rights, and made it to the wing for maids, servants, and attendants.
This entire wing was dedicated to them so they could perform their duties or wait until they were summoned by their master.
"Ahh, here we go, the lounge." Kai opened the door and saw that there were many people in the room.
That was normal since many nobles attended the Institute. What stood out to him, though, was the power dynamic between everyone in the room. To the far left, you had attendants and maids who were clearly uncomfortable, probably from lower-ranked families.
In the middle, there were the attendants who were from middle to upper-class noble families and were just chilling, minding their business. To the right, you had the attendants who were from high-ranking families, and they were chatting as if everything was normal.
Finally, in the center of the room, you had the big dogs, the attendants from the royal families.
"Look what the cat dragged in." An attendant smirked, getting off his chair to walk over to Kai.
