CHAPTER 182: HEARTFELT MESSAGE FROM A BROTHER

Princess Aliyah was throwing a fit in her quarters. She broke objects inside her room, flipping and turning the furniture. Two knights could hear the shattering sound outside the door as they stayed on guard.

She was hysterical and running so wild as she released her anger and frustration.

"How could this happen? I want to kill Eve. No! I’ll definitely kill her!" Princess Aliyah screamed angrily as she destroyed her bed. She imagined herself stabbing Eve multiple times as she tore off the sheets.

Princess Aliyah was turning more violent as time went by. She couldn’t hide her hostility toward Eve. She wanted revenge for humiliating her. She wouldn’t easily accept defeat.

It did not take long before someone snuck into her room.

"Your Highness," he called out, grabbing Princess Aliyah’s hand.

Princess Aliyah stopped what she was doing when she recognized that voice. She turned to her side only to see her loyal knight, Gerard.

"Gerard! I’m glad you are here. Please get me out of here. We need to escape. Eve and General Ravenmoor will kill me here!" Princess Aliyah said in her desperate voice.

"Yes, Your Highness. That was my initial plan. I witnessed everything in the palace hall. I chose to conceal my presence before making a move. I am here to free you and help you escape," Gerard responded. His loyalty to Princess Aliyah knew no bounds. He would do anything for her.

Her eyes lit up when she heard that. She was satisfied with Gerard’s initiative. "I’m so lucky to have you as my loyal guard. You are so smart. I will rely on you, Gerard! Let’s go out here. I’m counting on you!"

Gerard nodded and said, "Follow me, Your Highness."

Princess Aliyah didn’t waste her time. She immediately followed Gerard as he escorted her out of her quarters. He made sure not to get caught by the royal guards.

’This is my chance to kill Eve. I won’t let her reign in this kingdom. This is our kingdom, not hers! She is just an outsider!’ Aliyah thought to herself while clenching her fists.

With Gerard’s assistance, Princess Aliyah escaped smoothly. But they haven’t left the palace yet. He brought her to a hiding spot. To conceal her identity, Princess Aliyah disguised herself as a servant.

Meanwhile, General Ravenmoor found out that Princess Aliyah had gone missing. He was supposed to bring her to the Ravenmoor Clan’s residence. However, upon reaching her quarters, there was no sign of Princess Aliyah.

"Damn it! How could this happen?! You are supposed to guard Princess Aliyah, not letting her out. What happened here? Did you release her?" General Ravenmoor scolded the knights who were guarding the quarters.

"Forgive us, General Ravenmoor. We didn’t know how she was able to escape. Just a few minutes ago, she turned her chamber into chaos, breaking and throwing things. We thought she got tired when things suddenly became quiet." One knight explained.

General Ravenmoor gritted his teeth. "Go and find her!" he commanded the knights.

They heeded his command right away.

Meanwhile, Princess Eve summoned Captain Alucard and Commander Kevin to the palace hall. Gideon was standing next to her when they arrived.

"Your Highness, we have accomplished our mission of taking over the throne of Kingdom Averion. What is our next plan?" Captain Alucard asked her.

"I need ten days. There is something I need to do here and settle," Princess Eve replied. She didn’t plan to report their accomplishment to King Zaraki right away.

Captain Alucard and Commander Kevin exchanged glances with one another. They couldn’t figure out what Princess Eve was thinking.

"The coronation will be held two days from now," Gideon butted in. "For the time being, we need to ensure that no one will try to revolt during the coronation. We must secure Princess Eve’s safety."

"General Artemis will escort our army to their barracks. They will be staying there while doing their task." Eve informed them. "Choose your elite members who will stay here with us. I asked Chancellor to prepare your quarters."

"We understand, Your Highness."

Captain Alucard and Commander Kevin responded in unison.

"After conquering this kingdom, what is our next move, Your Highness? Are we going to seize the throne of Zephyra, forcing King Zaraki to step down?" Captain Alucard asked once again. His eagerness to avenge King Solomon’s death and reclaim the throne from King Zaraki was visible in his eyes.

Eve’s expression turned serious. This was the right time to come clean and reveal everything to her allies.

"Commander Kevin... Captain Alucard, please forgive me for hiding something from you. Now, I must confess to both of you."

Both men fell silent. They just looked at Princess Eve with intrigue.

"Just tell us, Your Highness."

Eve took a deep sigh, glancing at Gideon for a few seconds. Gideon just nodded with a smile, reassuring her.

"The truth is... I made a deal with King Zaraki. Since he’s holding my husband hostage, I have no choice but to carry out several orders for him. My first task is to conquer the Kingdom of Averion. The second... is to hand you over to him. I must also subdue all members of the rebel group."

Captain Alucard and Commander Kevin gasped in disbelief upon hearing her words.

"Y-Your Highness... are you serious? Are you going to betray us?" Commander Kevin confronted her.

Princess Eve shook her head frantically. "I wouldn’t have told you this if I planned to betray you."

The two men heaved a sigh of relief. They suddenly got scared a while ago, thinking that Eve would hand them over to King Zaraki.

"I summoned you here to explain my situation and plan our next move. I need your help, and I hope you’ll trust and cooperate with me. I promise—I won’t let any members of your army get hurt," Princess Eve vowed.

"We trust you. We will definitely cooperate with you, Your Highness," Captain Alucard promptly responded.

Commander Kevin also bobbed his head, expressing his desire to help her.

"Thank you, gentlemen. I know I can always count on you." Princess Eve smiled faintly, her eyes filled with hope.

"You don’t have to thank us, Your Highness. It is our duty to support you."

"As much as possible, I don’t want to kill anyone," Eve said with conviction.

"We’ll try to minimize casualties if we have no choice but to fight King Zaraki’s army,"

Captain Alucard replied, reassuring her.

"I will be the one to deal with my father," Gideon also butted in. "I’ll try to convince him to change his side."

Captain Alucard let out a soft chuckle. "Good luck to you, Gideon. Your father is also stubborn."

Gideon could only sigh while scratching the back of his head. He was aware that convincing his father wouldn’t be easy.

"Alright. Now, let’s discuss our plan," Eve said.

The four of them talked for an hour before Eve dismissed Captain Alucard and Commander Kevin. After their discussion, she requested Gideon to accompany her. It was her time to face her family, visiting them in their respective quarters.

Crown Prince Stefan’s pavilion was near the palace hall, so she decided to see him first. The two guards opened the door for Eve and Gideon. Upon entering the pavilion, they saw Crown Prince Stefan and his wife playing with their son.

"Eve," Crown Prince Stefan said the moment he noticed her presence.

He immediately turned to his wife. "Take our son to the chamber," he told her. He wanted to speak with his sister in private.

The crown princess immediately complied with Prince Stefan’s request. But unlike her, Gideon stayed by Eve’s side.

"Brother, I’d like Gideon to stay by my side while we talk," Eve finally spoke, looking at Stefan expectantly.

She still couldn’t bring herself to fully trust him. His earlier actions had taken her by surprise, and she couldn’t help but wonder—did he have an ulterior motive, or was he truly sincere?

"Sure. I understand that you don’t trust me yet, so there’s no need to lower your guard," Prince Stefan said calmly. He gestured with his hand, inviting them to sit down.

For now, he and his family were being held captive in the palace, awaiting Eve’s judgment.

Eve and Gideon joined him on the balcony.

"Eve, first of all, I want to apologize to you for everything... I feel ashamed as your brother. My family has caused you so much pain and suffering. I will accept whatever punishment you see fit. This is our retribution, so don’t hold back—do whatever you must," Prince Stefan said, sadness etched on his face.

Eve and Gideon hadn’t expected him to humble himself so quickly. It felt almost too good to be true. Unlike her half-sisters, her elder brother seemed more understanding and wise in his decisions. He wasn’t blinded by anger or hatred.

"Why are you doing this, Brother? Are you really scared of my power?" Eve asked him with mixed emotions.

Crown Prince Stefan stood up and approached Eve. Upon meeting her gaze, he smiled at her and gently patted her head. "Today, just allow me to act as your elder brother. It’s something I failed to do all these years. This is the least I can do to make it up to you. I’m sorry, sis... I truly regret what I’ve done in the past. I turned a blind eye and distanced myself from you. I didn’t protect you."

Eve felt a lump form in her throat as tears welled up in the corners of her eyes. This was the first heartfelt message she had ever received from her brother.
