CHAPTER 48: DARIUS’ DRAMA

SHAWN

Darius stood over the Alpha’s body, breathing heavily with blood dripping down his face. He looked like a god of death, but then he let out a sneaky smile.

"Sorry, I appeared a bit late..."

"What...what happened?" My eyes darted from him back to my father who had blood dripping from his skull, and passed out on the floor.

"He said you were dead."

"I made him think so..." He laughed, while he flicked his fingers, with a proud smile. "He is so cocky and he thinks he is all-knowing. I decided to make him eat his words."

"You need to see how I brought down all the guards in my way the minute he disappeared."

"So, you couldn’t defeat him there?" I sneered, and the next second, his smile faltered.

"You—"

"Where is she?"

"Who?" His brows creased.

I closed in on him, "Davina? My girl..."

"You didn’t get her out?" My stomach dipped, as I turned in the direction of the mansion.

"Where are you going?" Darius came after me, pulling on my hand, however, I pushed him aside as I glared at him.

"No one asked you to go in there and try to act sneaky, only to come out here without her."

"I..." He stuttered, his fingers roaming through his hair but I turned away.

However, he followed after me, "Wait! You are misunderstanding something!"

"What?" I snapped. "Did you find her or not?"

He blinked, "I...i..."

"Fuck!" My fists tightened and I prepared to go straight into the mansion. I was indeed surprised to see a few guards lying around, almost having their intestines gutted.

I admitted that Darius was really strong and fast, but he still couldn’t do just one thing.

"Shawn! You can’t go in there!" He dragged me back to the alley, but in the blink of an eye, my fist rushed to his face.

Bang!

His palm clashed with my fist so hard, I felt the recoil and tremor down my arm. He had my fist in a lock, and I was unable to move even just an inch.

"You..."

"Calm down, Shawn." He shook his head, his eyes narrowing.

"What do you mean by that? I came here for her—"

"She is safe."

"What?" I arched a brow.

"I got her out and she is on her way to my cottage."

My heart fell back in place, and I lost all strength in my body at once. My back rested on the wall, while I caught my breath.

"You just can’t be patient, can you?" He clicked his tongue, eyeing me from top to bottom. "As a future leader, you need to work on that."

"What? Were you testing me?"

"Well..." He shrugged, as his cheeks turned round with a blush. "You could say that."

Drama. That was all I could think of when I looked at Darius and I had no more time for that.

I pulled on his arm, when I saw the Alpha already shifting on the floor, trying to get up.

"Let’s go!" I dragged Darius, forcing him to lead the way while I clutched my injury which was already bleeding again.

"Where is your cottage? Are you sure she is safe there? Who is taking her there?"

He glanced at me, "Relax—"

"Don’t tell me to relax!" I snapped.

"Alright, keep barking—"

I grabbed him by the collar, forcing him to look straight in my face, "I don’t care if this is just drama to you. But if any fucking thing happens to her, then you are dead!"

"I won’t mind dying with you, and we will continue battling at the feet of the Moon Goddess."

"Ohh..." He blinked, with his eyes darting to look away from me. "That was scary..."

He wasn’t one bit scared though as he pulled my hands off him slowly. And then he rolled his eyes, "Also, I never knew you were an ungrateful brat."

"Why would I be grateful when you didn’t do what I wanted?"

"I saved your life." He snickered. "Diego would have forced life out of you, if I hadn’t appeared in time."

I pursed my lips, knowing he was right. However, did it count since I was actually willing to die at that moment?

But as tension rose between us as our words eluded us, I felt apologetic and remorseful about my actions. However, I couldn’t bring myself to say sorry. It was a vulnerability to me, and I could only do that with my girl.

We reached a secluded part of the Pack, and he pushed me aside to check out the surroundings. As soon as he ascertained there was no one in sight, we walked faster.

"When we get her, we have to leave the Pack immediately. Now, that Diego knows I am with you, it’s not going to stay low."

"Does he know you?"

"Of course..." Darius puffed his shoulders. "I stood against his marriage to your mother. We are basically sworn enemies."

There was a lot I didn’t know about, but now wasn’t the time at all. We reached the cottage, very obscure within the woods and almost hidden by the lush green leaves.

"I can sense her..." I rushed to the door, and the next second, I forced it open.

But then...swish!

A knife was in my face, but I dodged at the nick of time. But the hum of the silver blade and how it reflected in the sun made my head drum and I staggered.

However, Darius caught me from behind, with a grin.

"Is this funny to you?"

"No..." He shook his head, but his smile got wider. "Your wolf has gotten so weak that a mere silver blade could scare you this way."

My face burned, and I quickly got away from him. I looked back at the cottage where that attacker stood upright, also with a smile.

"Are you both playing pranks on me right now?"

"Of course not..." Darius waved his hand. "You were not patient enough. Did you think you could get into my cottage so easily?"

"Well..." I swallowed, watching him wave the man off while he got in first. I followed after him, and Davina’s scent became even stronger. As my nose picked it up, I followed in the direction not caring about what Darius would say.

There was a bed in another space, with a frail girl on it with her chest heaving slightly.

As relief washed over me, I sank beside the bed while I checked every inch of her. She looked so weak, and I was scared to touch her. My hands were too dirty, too filthy with blood to taint her.

"Are you calm now?" Darius sneered, folding his arms.

"Yes." I sighed, as I rested on the wall. "Thank you."

It was heartfelt, a word I never said to anyone.

"Good! We can get your brothers now and get the hell out of here."

However, my eyes turned to her instead, "Why isn’t she awake?"

"She was alright, agile yesterday."

"Are you listening to me, Shawn?" He pressed, pulling my face to look straight into his eye.

But my gaze was still on her. I had been so convinced that she would be able to do a great deal of damage to my father, but here she was, lying almost lifeless.

"Darius..." I muttered. "Where did you find her? What state was she in?"

"Uhmm...she was just like this. This doesn’t matter right now. We need to get your brothers."

"But..."

"No buts, Shawn!" He snapped, as his face hardened. "You said they were fucking attacked by the blood wolf."

"Do you want them dead?"

"No..." I shook my head.

"So, go get them! We need to look for the blood wolf that attacked you guys. You can take care of your mate later."

I shook my head again, "There is no need."

"What?"

I held Davina’s hand, it was pale and cold like a body that had lost all of its warmth. I rubbed on her fingers, as gently as I could while I stared at Darius intently.

"She is the one who attacked us."

He went silent, blinked rapidly and then he opened his mouth but no words came out.

"You are joking, right?" He finally spoke up as he laughed, but the sound was strained with no life in it.

"No."

Darius was in utter disbelief, as his face drained of color.

"How?" He gasped. "How the hell did she attack you? Are you joking with me right now?"

I stood up, slowly explaining what had gone wrong in the forest while we were trying to escape. And he couldn’t take in all of the information and he leaned on the wall, his chest heaving.

"It doesn’t make sense..." He shook his head. "Why here? Is this why Diego had her?"

At that moment, it clicked in my mind. It wasn’t just about my brothers and me anymore, or the Alpha’s pursuit of sadistic pleasure. It was about what she carried too. And that was why he went after her.

This was the most logical thing I could think of. An Alpha obsessed with power and oppression would immediately go after anything that could bring him that.

The blood wolf was everything he needed, according to what Darius had said earlier. But what had he done to her? It was almost as if life was leaving her body.

And quickly, I got her off the bed, while biting back my pain.

"I will take you to Ethan and Uriel. Let’s get the hell out of here!"
