CHAPTER 117: CHAPTER 109 MR. GU SHOWS OFF HIS WIFE_3

"I’m okay." Qiao Yuxian looked at Chen Hui. Ever since Qiao Lech fell ill, she had lost a lot of weight. "Just more homework."

Frequent visits to the Qiao Family have helped Qiao Yuxian gradually ease in, although she still hasn’t completely integrated. However, compared to her previous estrangement, things have improved significantly.

At least the awkwardness in their interactions has diminished.

But they still weren’t very close.

"No matter how busy you are, take care of your health," Qiao Yu said, "It’s going to get colder soon. Exhaustion can weaken your immunity, so be more cautious."

"Mm." Qiao Yuxian replied.

The three of them chatted casually for a bit. Qiao Yu hesitated for a moment and said, "Your uncle mentioned... Wei Zhou wants to come and stay over during winter break."

Qiao Weizhou, Qiao Yuxian’s cousin, and Qiao Shuning’s younger brother.

He’s currently in his third year of college.

Qiao Yuxian glanced at him.

Qiao Yu happened to pick up a teacup from the coffee table and drank tea, keeping his gaze lowered, using the teacup to shield his eyes as if the previous remark was just casually mentioned.

Chen Hui, sitting beside him, noticed his evasive gaze, chuckled a little, and then looked at Qiao Lech and the others.

On Qiao Yu’s birthday, he and his daughter had a disagreement.

That same evening, someone approached them with evidence of Qiao Shuning’s conspiracy and slander against Qiao Yuxian behind the scenes.

Qiao Yu immediately sought out Qiao Shuning, but by the time he contacted her, she had already been sent back to Yue City.

And now she couldn’t leave Yue City.

Wherever her ID card was needed, her ID was restricted from traveling.

In places where no ID was required, anytime she tried to connect, someone would reach out promptly, urging her to drop the idea.

Qiao Shuning spent a long time living in fear.

It wasn’t until she realized she was merely unable to leave Yue City and hadn’t been harmed by those people that she began to relax.

Qiao Yu knew all about this. Qiao Shuning’s father, his elder brother, had informed him.

Qiao Yu could guess it had something to do with Qiao Yuxian.

So he didn’t intervene or involve himself.

But since Qiao Shuning couldn’t come to Imperial City, Qiao Weizhou intended to visit during winter break.

Qiao Yu didn’t quite know how to broach the topic with Qiao Yuxian, so he mentioned it this way.

Qiao Yuxian looked at Qiao Yu, casually asking, "What’s he coming for?"

"He mentioned that Xi Mei Media in Capital City is recruiting trainees, and he’s interested in applying." Qiao Yu said, "He’s studying music-related majors, isn’t he?"

Qiao Yuxian raised an eyebrow, nodded, and said nothing more.

Qiao Yu, his fingers tapping slowly on the teacup, noticed she didn’t say anything. After a while, he asked, "Is it okay if he comes?"

Qiao Yuxian looked at him, paused, then smiled, "Dad, he’s your nephew. Whether he comes or not is up to you."

Qiao Yu studied her closely, relieved to see she wasn’t actually angry. He exhaled lightly, smiled, and said, "Yes, yes."

Qiao Yuxian looked at him and smiled again.

...

Qiao Yuxian stayed for lunch there; around two o’clock, when Qiao Lech went for her nap, she left with Zhaocai.

Chen Hui picked up a paper bag and walked out with her.

Qiao Yuxian said, "If Zhaocai helps Lech, you could consider having a cat or a dog at home."

"Okay. Sounds good," Chen Hui said. "Yuxian, thank you for all you’ve done these past few times. Even though you’re so busy, you still keep coming here."

"Auntie, there’s no need to be so formal," Qiao Yuxian replied, holding the leash. "Lech’s situation involves my responsibility."

"Don’t say that. It’s not your fault," Chen Hui softly said. "Evil deeds are to blame, no point taking it upon yourself."

Qiao Yuxian chuckled, "Auntie, it’s windy outside, you should stay in."

"Alright." Chen Hui handed over the paper bag. "It’s colder now. I knitted a scarf and gloves myself. I’m not sure if you’ll like them."

Qiao Yuxian paused for a moment, then took them with both hands, "Thank you, Auntie."

"They’re not very fancy," Chen Hui smiled gently, "I hope you don’t mind."

Qiao Yuxian looked into the bag, "They’re very pretty, I like them."

"As long as you like them." Chen Hui said, "Go ahead, is your ride waiting outside?"

"Yes."

Chen Hui watched her leave the yard before she turned back toward the villa.

Qiao Yuxian contacted Shang Chen to pick her up, opened the car door, and found Gu Yanjing sitting in the back seat. She was pleasantly surprised, "Hm?"

Gu Yanjing glanced at Zhaocai hopping in and casually said, "Just passing by."

What a convenient coincidence.

It’s Saturday, and you’re at home with nothing else to do.

Leaving Fenglin Villa together, what a coincidental detour.

"Oh." Qiao Yuxian smiled subtly and looked at him.

Gu Yanjing saw the hint of understanding in her eyes, hesitated, and said, "Get in."

"Alright." Qiao Yuxian answered, stepping into the car. Just as she was about to get in, she paused and glanced behind.

A black Bentley was parked next to the other villa beside the Qiao Family’s.

She took another look.

Gu Yanjing noticed her pause and asked, "What’s up?"

Qiao Yuxian shook her head, looked at the car again, then got in and closed the door.
