CHAPTER 153: CHAPTER 140

After dropping off Qin Xia at the mall and watching her drive away, Qiao Yuxian finally left.

She didn’t return to West Mountain but drove to Fenglin Villa instead.

By the time she arrived, it was almost 2 a.m.

Everyone was resting, and the night was extremely quiet.

Qiao Yuxian didn’t drive her car inside, leaving it outside the courtyard and quietly went into the villa.

The living room lights were off, so she felt her way back to her room in the dark.

Back in her room, she washed up and changed into her pajamas, preparing to sleep, thinking of surprising Gu Yanjing in the morning.

But lying on the bed, she couldn’t sleep no matter what.

Her head was filled with Qin Xia’s words.

After lying there for a while, she took out her phone to check the time.

It was already past three in the morning.

Qiao Yuxian looked at the time on her phone, considered for a moment, and left her room, tip-toeing to Gu Yanjing’s bedroom door.

She placed her hand on the doorknob, slowly, gently turning it open.

She slowly pushed the door ajar, then crouched down, moving inside the room like a little penguin, bit by bit.

Once inside with difficulty, she closed the door.

She moved along the wall, stood up, pressed against the wall, and slowly moved further in.

Finally, as she was about to reach the bedroom, she crouched down again, slowly feeling her way toward the bed.

Quietly reaching the foot of the bed, she was already sweating.

Gu Yanjing’s bed was very large.

Even if he slept in the middle, there was still ample space for someone to sleep on either side.

Moreover, he was slightly toward the edge.

Qiao Yuxian waited at the foot of the bed for a while, seeing no movement from him.

She shifted a little further to the other side, lifted the quilt, and quietly crawled onto the bed from the foot, quickly covering herself with the blanket, not daring to move.

In the pitch-black room, Gu Yanjing lay flat on the bed, near the foot there was a little round lump.

Qiao Yuxian stayed quiet for a moment, seeing no movement from Gu Yanjing.

The little lump under the quilt started to move upwards.

It was like a big snail shell.

The key was moving slowly.

Moving nearly to the middle, it stopped again.

Then, the little lump stretched its legs and body flat, and a little head poked out from the top of the quilt.

Finally breathing fresh air, Qiao Yuxian gulped in the air hard, just about to exhale, when the person beside her suddenly moved, flipping over swiftly and pressing her beneath him.

Startled, Qiao Yuxian shivered, the breath she wanted to release was suddenly held in, her little face puffed up. Her eyes widened, looking at the person above her with shock.

With the curtains drawn, the room was pitch dark.

But they both adapted to the darkness, and being close, they could slightly make out each other’s features.

Gu Yanjing looked at her, his gaze tracing the outline of her features, and a hint of languid sleepiness lingered in his eyes. After watching her for a while, he raised his hand and pinched her puffed-up little face.

His fingers exerted a little pressure, causing Qiao Yuxian’s mouth to pucker slightly.

Her lips parted, and her puffed-up little face deflated.

"Hm?!" Qiao Yuxian uttered a small resisting sound.

Gu Yanjing didn’t release her, his thumb stroking her face, gaze landing on her lips: "When did you come back?"

Seeing his eyes like a wolf who found its prey, ready to strip and eat, Qiao Yuxian gripped the quilt, trying to pull it up to hide her mouth.

But the quilt was weighed down by him, not budging.

Gu Yanjing watched her struggle with the quilt.

Seeing she couldn’t pull the quilt, she peeled his hand off, shrank back under the quilt, leaving only her eyes exposed.

Gu Yanjing watched the little girl beneath him, her clean and bright eyes blinking.

Even if she was a prey, she was one he wouldn’t easily hurt.

His hand rested on her pillow, his thumb gently caressing her temple: "Just got back?"

"Mm." Qiao Yuxian’s gaze fell onto his collarbone.

His sleepwear had a loose neckline.

Lying like this, the cloth sank, revealing not only the collarbone but also a glimpse further inside.

"Can’t sleep?" Gu Yanjing asked again.

Based on past instances, it was always when she had something on her mind, needing someone by her side to fall asleep.

"Mm." Qiao Yuxian replied, "You’ve been awake for a while now."

"Mm." Gu Yanjing answered.

"Then you’ve been listening to me sneaking up like a mouse." Qiao Yuxian’s voice had a bit of a playful little temper.

"No." Gu Yanjing responded calmly.

"What do you mean no, you’ve been awake listening, just wanted to laugh at me." Qiao Yuxian said.

"I meant there’s no mouse that big." Gu Yanjing’s expression unchanged, tone cool.

As if merely stating a fact.

But to Qiao Yuxian, it inexplicably got her a little angry.

She kicked her legs twice.

Both kicks landed on Gu Yanjing’s legs.

Mr. Gu didn’t mind at all, letting her kick him twice.

"Still pretending to sleep." Qiao Yuxian muttered quietly, "What if it was someone else? What if they came to take your life?"

Gu Yanjing slightly raised his eyebrows: "What assassin moves by crawling on the ground like that?"

Qiao Yuxian: "......"

Gu Yanjing looked at her small unhappy eyes, paused, then asked: "Something on your mind?"

"No." Qiao Yuxian replied decisively. She pushed his shoulders, "Lie back, lie back, lie back."

Gu Yanjing lay back on his side, extending his arm under her neck, and with a hug, pulled her into his embrace.

Suddenly finding herself in his arms, both could feel each other’s warmth through the fabric. She could clearly hear Gu Yanjing’s heartbeat.

A bit fast.

This heart rate didn’t match his cool and calm demeanor.

Qiao Yuxian’s body stiffened for a moment, but quickly relaxed, finding a comfortable position on his arm.

After a while, her hand rested on his waist.

Gu Yanjing lowered his eyes watching her closed eyes and flickering eyelashes.

Neither spoke again, and the room returned to peace.

After a while, Gu Yanjing saw her open her eyes.

A few seconds later, she said, "Gu Yanjing, actually, I might have something on my mind."

"Mm." Gu Yanjing responded.

"I saw my mother this afternoon." Qiao Yuxian’s voice was a bit dazed.

Gu Yanjing’s eyelashes flickered too.

Qiao Yuxian had said she would visit Zhao Shimeng after her test.

But after the test, she hadn’t mentioned it, so Gu Yanjing hadn’t brought it up either.

Qiao Yuxian said, "She came to school to look for me."

"And then?"

"We sat in a café for an hour." Qiao Yuxian stated.

"Mm." Gu Yanjing responded.

"She knows a lot about me, cares about me." Qiao Yuxian said, "It seems... she doesn’t dislike me."

Gu Yanjing stroked her head: "Then why aren’t you happy?"

Qiao Yuxian remained silent for a while and finally said: "I don’t know."

Gu Yanjing looked at her downcast eyes, and after a few seconds, he propped himself up slightly and kissed her on the temple...
