CHAPTER 155: CHAPTER 142 SOMEONE BREAKS IN AT NIGHT?
After that, Gu Yanjing didn’t sleep.
Qiao Yuxian is a restless sleeper, and in the end, he had to hold her in his arms to make sure she slept peacefully.
In the morning, when it was time, Gu Yanjing got up.
Qiao Yuxian was deeply asleep, and when Gu Yanjing pulled his arm out, she didn’t react at all. A while later, she reached out on the bed and, not finding anyone, she hugged the pillow in her arms.
Gu Yanjing looked at her and went to the walk-in closet to change his clothes.
After just the time it took to change clothes, when he came out again, Qiao Yuxian was sprawled across the bed, and the blanket had also been kicked off.
Not only had the blanket been kicked off, but the left leg of her pajama pants had been slid up.
Gu Yanjing first looked at her face, then immediately noticed the bruises exposed on her calf.
He walked to the other side of the bed and leaned over to look at the bruises on her leg.
Bruises in stripes on the front of the leg.
They seemed like bruises from hitting something hard by kicking.
He observed for a while, then gently rolled up the pajama pants on the other side slightly.
On the right leg, in nearly the same position, there were bruises too, and the color of the bruises was even deeper.
Gu Yanjing’s expression darkened, and after a few seconds, he went around to the other side and rolled up her pajama sleeves to look at her arms.
As he expected, both arms had bruises.
The bruises weren’t just in one place; there were bruises on the inside and outside of both arms.
Gu Yanjing held her hand to look at it; the left hand seemed fine, but the knuckle of her right middle finger had some scuffed skin.
Her right hand had been pressed beneath her all along, and Gu Yanjing hadn’t noticed it.
He stroked her fingers, remembering how he’d given himself such injuries when practicing wooden dummy strikes as a child.
"Hmm? Gu Yanjing." Qiao Yuxian opened her eyes and looked at him.
She only opened her eyes halfway, looked at him for two seconds, then said: "I’m not going to class. I’m so sleepy."
"Does it hurt?" Gu Yanjing asked her, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Where does it hurt?" Qiao Yuxian’s hand swung from the edge of the bed, her voice groggy.
"Your arms." Gu Yanjing looked at the bruises on her arms.
Qiao Yuxian struggled to open her eyes, followed his gaze and looked, then closed her eyes again and said, "It doesn’t hurt. My skin’s too delicate; it changes color with a touch, just ignore it."
Gu Yanjing cast his eyes down to look at her.
Qiao Yuxian seemed to have fallen asleep again, but a few seconds later, she remembered that she could be a bit coquettish with the person in front of her, then changed her tone: "It hurts. It really hurts."
After saying that, she slept a little longer, then woke up again slightly, grabbing Gu Yanjing’s pants and said, "Apply some medicine, won’t you? Pity the poor child."
Gu Yanjing rubbed her face with the back of his hand: "Sleep first."
"Alright." Qiao Yuxian replied softly and sank into dreams.
Gu Yanjing looked at the bruises on her skin, and after a while, he left the room.
He had initially planned to get the medicine kit, but as soon as he left the room he saw Su Qi and Shang Chen standing downstairs with the butler and bodyguards from Jingyu Garden.
"What happened?" Gu Yanjing asked.
The butler and bodyguards stood stiffly at the back with their heads down, not daring to speak.
Shang Chen didn’t dare to open his mouth either.
In the end, it was Su Qi who said, "Two people broke into Jingyu Garden last night."
The only person who spoke, his voice faltered on the last two words.
He was frightened to the point of losing his voice.
Seeing their reaction, Gu Yanjing asked coldly: "You didn’t catch them."
The four lowered their heads and dared not speak.
The butler at the back was subtly trembling.
Gu Yanjing walked to the couch and sat down, looked at them, and said, "Not even one of the two was caught."
His voice was cold, a light tone with heavy intimidation.
Like a mountain bearing down on them.
And that look he gave them was clearly saying: a bunch of wastes.
The security measures at Jingyu Garden are very strict, guards in all hidden spots, and patrolling around at night.
That’s where Gu Yanjing resides.
Yet, two people broke in and got away.
Gu Yanjing looked at them, waiting for them to provide an explanation.
But all four were terrified, the more they wanted to speak, the more they found their mouth wouldn’t open, their throat seemed glued shut, unable to emit a sound.
Su Qi was the one amongst them who could face Gu Yanjing most comfortably.
Yet under circumstances where problems arose, even if it had nothing to do with him, he dared not face Gu Yanjing.
His aura was too strong, and his cold demeanor was deadly.
No one could tolerate it.
If it weren’t for the butler bribing him early this morning from next week till the year-end to introduce him to potential partners, he’d never have come.
"Mr. Gu." Su Qi stepped forward, handing over the item he had, "This was found on the willow tree outside the courtyard."
Su Qi’s outreached hand was trembling.
Gu Yanjing took it and looked.
It’s denim fabric, likely caught and torn into fringes.
A tiny bit, this kind of fabric material is everywhere, holding no real value.
"There are no traces inside Jingyu Garden, and nothing seems to be missing. We don’t know their intent." Su Qi said, trying to stabilize his voice, "The surrounding surveillance didn’t capture anything either."
Gu Yanjing glanced at the fabric and dropped it on the coffee table, then took the medicine kit from beneath the table and started towards the stairs, leaving the four behind.
It had nothing to do with Su Qi, so once he left, Su Qi could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
However, the remaining three were even more frightened. Shang Chen wasn’t in Jingyu Garden last night, but all the fighters and bodyguards in the Capital City work for him, and since his men didn’t keep Jingyu Garden secure, he couldn’t shirk responsibility.
Gu Yanjing didn’t punish the three of them, just left them here.
This was akin to a guillotine hanging over their necks; it would eventually descend, but not knowing when left them in constant torment.
With a medicine kit in hand, Gu Yanjing walked to the staircase, Aunt Mei happened to be heading downstairs with the clothes Qiao Yuxian changed out of.
She stood aside, giving way to Gu Yanjing, and called out, "Sir."
Gu Yanjing nodded, about to head upstairs when his peripheral vision landed on the jeans in her hands.
Qiao Yuxian’s clothes are taken to wash by Aunt Mei every day after being changed.
Yesterday, Gu Yanjing recalled that Qiao Yuxian had gone out in black pants, not the light blue jeans.
Moreover, there seemed to be a piece missing from the leg of these jeans.
Clearly scraped and torn off.
Gu Yanjing lifted the pant leg to take a look, then glanced toward the four standing in the living room: "The intruders in Yu Jing Garden, were they female or male?"
Su Qi was pulled in to report, knowing as much as that but not whether they were male or female.
He turned to look at the butler behind him.
The butler opened his mouth, initially unable to produce sound; after two seconds, he managed: "It seemed to be females. We only saw them as shadows flashing by. One with long hair, one with short hair."
Su Qi was taken aback.
"Around what time?" Gu Yanjing asked again.
"Around 1 AM." The butler answered.
Short hair... the first person Gu Yanjing thought of was Qin Xia.
The timing matched as well.
A trip around Capital City’s outskirts from Jingyu Garden to here takes roughly an hour.
He also recalled Qin Xia’s complaints about this place being too small.
"Mr. Gu, we have already dispatched additional personnel for a large-scale search..." The butler trembled in his voice.
"No need." Gu Yanjing interrupted him.
Su Qi was stunned for a moment, quickly connecting some dots and noticing a clue.
The butler was also taken aback, his mind in a pulp, but still promptly responded, "Yes."
"Shang Chen, deal with your people by yourself, reorganize." Gu Yanjing looked at him and instructed.
"Yes." Shang Chen bowed his head in acknowledgment.
"Make sure their security is maintained safely there, but make them quicker." Gu Yanjing instructed the butler.
"Yes." The butler straightened his posture and agreed.
Gu Yanjing took the medicine kit upstairs.
It wasn’t until he entered the room that the four downstairs dared to raise their heads after waiting for a while, exchanging glances.
Each person’s eyes were full of surprise.
They thought they’d come and get skinned, yet... nothing happened.
"Mr. Gu... what happened?" the butler asked blankly.
Shang Chen said coldly, "Discussing Mr. Gu, do you wish to die?"
The butler immediately shut his mouth.
Shang Chen left directly to reorganize his people.
Su Qi reckoned he’d sorted most things out in his mind. He smiled, patted the butler’s shoulder and said, "Don’t forget what you promised me. Whether I marry next year depends on you."
Butler: "......"
