Chapter 41 - 38 Someone Broke In
CHAPTER 41: CHAPTER 38 SOMEONE BROKE IN
Fenglin Villa
After dinner, Gu Yanjing and Shang Chen went to the study, and Qiao Yuxian returned to her room.
Possibly because of her good health, despite the period and catching a cold with a fever, once the fever subsided, Qiao Yuxian felt no discomfort at all.
Her throat had also recovered significantly, almost feeling nothing.
Returning to her room, she washed up, did skincare, and carefully tended to her hair.
Nearly two hours later, after finishing everything, she sat on her bed and checked some emails on her computer.
Then she turned on the projector, adjusted the room’s lights, and started watching a movie...
At eleven thirty, Qiao Yuxian, who fell asleep halfway through the movie, woke up thirsty.
She sat up, dazedly watching the end credits introducing various staff members.
They were already introducing the voice actors.
She even recognized a few familiar names.
After sitting for a while, waiting for the movie’s easter eggs to finish, the room dimmed further as Qiao Yuxian got out of bed to pour water.
She walked barefoot towards the bedroom door, suddenly stopping halfway.
The somewhat groggy look vanished, suddenly becoming much clearer.
Film recommendations were rolling on the screen. The room’s light flickering, now bright, now dim.
After the temperature dropped, Qiao Yuxian changed into long pajama pants.
A white pajama set, with green lace on the pants, sleeves, and pockets, simple yet cute.
But in the dim environment, it inexplicably added a touch of danger.
She turned to look at the balcony.
The balcony curtains were drawn, thick and opaque, moving gently with the room’s changing light.
Qiao Yuxian’s gaze fell on the curtains, and after a moment, she slowly walked over.
Just two meters from the balcony, the curtain on the left suddenly moved with a rustling sound.
With the sound, a person from the balcony emerged, heading straight for Qiao Yuxian.
The intruder wore a baseball cap, face covered, judging by the figure, a man.
His hand reached directly for Qiao Yuxian’s neck.
Qiao Yuxian dodged in time, lifting her leg to kick at him.
The man reacted quickly, using his hand to block her leg. Yet caught off guard, he still stumbled back a few steps.
Qiao Yuxian quickly advanced, engaging him in a scuffle...
Another side kick, the air was torn apart with a whistling force. Qiao Yuxian’s rapid strikes, each punch carrying the wind, each hit landing solidly.
The man, unable to evade, took another hit, his lower back crashing into the small round table on the balcony.
The table almost tipped over, but the man steadied himself with it, keeping both himself and the table upright.
Just minutes inside the room, not gaining any advantage. Realizing further fighting would worsen the situation, he decided to escape back through the balcony.
Qiao Yuxian saw his intention, quickly blocking his path, forcing him back into the room.
She gently raised an eyebrow, a smile on her face yet the light in her eyes sent chills down one’s back: "Since you came, don’t think of leaving."
Her voice was soft, yet like a sharp blade.
She said, stepping forward and kicking him once more.
This kick, she didn’t hold back any strength.
The man was kicked out, crashing into the cabinet at the foot of the bed.
The vase on top fell to the floor.
After a heavy thud from the cabinet, the sound of breaking glass abruptly exploded in the room, echoing through the night.
Outside in the corridor, Gu Yanjing had just returned from the study to his bedroom, opening the door when he heard the sound.
His expression sharpened, heading straight to Qiao Yuxian’s room.
Before reaching the door, it opened.
A man dressed in black emerged.
His left arm was injured, blood dripping from his hand onto the floor.
With the balcony blocked, the man could only escape through the door.
But he didn’t expect to encounter another demon upon exiting.
Inside the room, Qiao Yuxian intended to keep him alive, but outside, when Gu Yanjing saw only him and not Qiao Yuxian, he was filled with murderous intent.
When Qiao Yuxian cautiously emerged from the room avoiding the glass shards, Gu Yanjing already had the man under his foot.
The man... his face was covered in blood, lying there as if drained of all strength.
"Gu Yanjing." Qiao Yuxian called his name.
Gu Yanjing paused, turning to look at Qiao Yuxian.
His gaze, usually cold and harsh, now carried a bloody aura, heavy and fierce. The murderous intent surrounding him seemed to harm anyone who came close.
Seeing Qiao Yuxian unharmed, he withdrew his gaze, releasing his foot.
The man underfoot made no movement.
"Gu Yanjing." Qiao Yuxian was startled by his demeanor, then quickly approached him, "Are you hurt?"
She had heard the fight outside from her room.
Gu Yanjing glanced at Qiao Yuxian, then at the blood on the floor.
Qiao Yuxian walked over barefoot, each step leaving a bloody footprint.
He frowned, about to act, when he suddenly heard a sound from behind.
The man on the ground, using the last of his strength, pushed himself up, left hand still holding a dagger, heading straight for Gu Yanjing’s back.
Qiao Yuxian, checking if Gu Yanjing was injured, instinctively tried to pull him aside.
But Gu Yanjing used an opposing force, and she failed to move him.
Gu Yanjing turned back, gripping the man’s wrist with precision, and twisted hard.
The dagger fell, the man screamed, collapsing to his knees.
Gu Yanjing released him, then stomped on the dagger, flipping it up, grabbing it with one hand, and thrusting it into the man’s right shoulder.
The man let out another scream, falling backward onto the ground.
Qiao Yuxian winced at his scream, touching her shoulder lightly.
That arm was as good as useless.
One arm broken, the other incapacitated.
Gu Yanjing lowered his gaze, took a handkerchief from his pocket, and wiped the blood from his hands.
An aura of indifference, heartlessness, and disgust...
He threw the handkerchief away, approaching Qiao Yuxian.
Qiao Yuxian watched him.
A white shirt, suit pants, fine eyebrows, a cold and stern expression, an intimidating presence, and seemingly heartless methods...
He was too ruthless, as if devoid of human emotions.
As she was thinking, suddenly she was lifted off the ground.
Qiao Yuxian was startled, instinctively wrapping her arms around Gu Yanjing’s neck.
Staring at him blankly for two seconds before realizing she had been picked up.
Soon, she felt the warmth of his neck on her wrist.
Qiao Yuxian’s body stiffened, her heartbeat quickened.
Gu Yanjing noticed her dazed expression and said, "Your foot doesn’t hurt?"
"Huh?" Qiao Yuxian’s fingers moved slightly, accidentally brushing his neck, causing her fingers to freeze, "No, it doesn’t hurt."
Gu Yanjing’s eyelashes fluttered lightly, giving her another look, then carried her down to the living room, placing her on the sofa.
Qiao Yuxian sat on the sofa, wriggling her hips, finding a position that made her feel more at ease.
The medical box was under the coffee table. As Gu Yanjing opened it to search for items, Qiao Yuxian remained somewhat dazed.
She looked at her right foot, it was fine.
Then she looked at her left foot.
Her eyes widened suddenly.
Blood!
There was blood!
She took a closer look and saw glass shards. In an instant, pain shot to her central nervous system.
"Ah! It hurts so much." Qiao Yuxian clutched her left leg, collapsing onto the sofa, "Help!"
Gu Yanjing heard her cries, his expression darkened, and he glanced at her.
Qiao Yuxian lay on the sofa, pouting, frowning. Her pained expression looked like her whole foot was missing, her voice pitifully small: "It hurts, it hurts, it hurts, it hurts, it hurts..."
