The King of Urban Mercenaries
Chapter 1068 - 1070: Departure
CHAPTER 1068: CHAPTER 1070: DEPARTURE
Lin Fei was speaking from his heart, especially after marrying Mu Shanshan; he felt content and even thought about living like this forever, how wonderful it would be. But such a thing was impossible; Lin Fei knew it in his heart. The responsibilities he was carrying now were too many and too heavy, making it impossible for him to continue living lightly.
Looking at Butcher’s thoughtful expression, Lin Fei asked, "What’s wrong? Thinking about retiring? Or is Wang Xiaoya hoping for you to live well with her?"
At this point, Butcher looked at Lin Fei and said, "Bro, I won’t hide it. Wang Xiaoya wants me to leave the mercenary business, especially after all my brothers died. She’s been nagging me non-stop; it’s driving me crazy."
"She hopes you won’t keep taking risks anymore, right?" Lin Fei asked.
Butcher nodded and said, "She says being a mercenary is too dangerous, she doesn’t want me to keep being a mercenary and wants me to go home and live peacefully with her. She even said to find a job, as long as we can eat well. I don’t have that much time to do a small job! What a shallow woman!"
By the end, Butcher almost shouted. He really liked Wang Xiaoya, but their thoughts and beliefs were so different; he couldn’t accept it. For him, he was born on the battlefield; Butcher hated such comfortable days. He didn’t want to live like Lin Fei, having a life of plenty and comfort.
"Women are all like this, hoping for a stable home. But a stable home needs strength to support it. Nowadays Mo Country is quite peaceful, so you can’t feel it. If we were really in wartime abroad, the so-called stable life would just be a luxury. At that time, what they’d desire is power; only those with power are qualified to have stable days."
Having seen too many instances of families shattered on the battlefield, Lin Fei understood the importance of strength, so he hoped for national stability. That’s why he was willing to return to the Mercenary Group internationally, for the sake of the country. Lin Fei was willing to temporarily give up his family.
Glancing at Butcher, Lin Fei patted his shoulder and said, "If you really like Wang Xiaoya, then consider her words carefully. Whatever decision you make, we brothers will respect your choice."
After saying that, Lin Fei walked off into the distance, leaving Butcher with a bewildered face, standing atop the mountain, looking at the boundless sea, feeling as though his heart was as obscure as the misty spray far offshore, unable to see what the road ahead was.
Back in the room, Lin Fei looked at the bloodstains on the sheets and the sweetly sleeping Mu Shanshan, suddenly feeling filled with guilt. Originally, he had planned to return to the Mercenary Group in a year or half, to spend this time with Mu Shanshan, but he didn’t expect such a massive change, forcing him to leave early.
He didn’t know how to speak to Mu Shanshan. On the table in the room, there was paper and a pen. Lin Fei picked up the pen, wanting to write a letter to Mu Shanshan and then leave, but when he was about to write, he found he didn’t know how to begin.
In the end, Lin Fei wrote just six words on the paper, then stuffed it into Mu Shanshan’s bag and left.
By noon, many people had already woken up one after another, but they discovered that the towering cruise ship was still on the sea, with everything remaining as it was—except Lin Fei had disappeared.
Mu Shanshan was awakened by knocking. She rubbed her eyes, found Lin Fei wasn’t beside her, and there was no sign of him around. The day was already bright, the knocking continued, accompanied by Ling Weiwei’s shouting. Mu Shanshan dressed, stood up, and saw the red spots left on the pristine sheets, reached out, and pulled the quilt to cover them.
After tidying her disheveled hair, she opened the door. Seeing Mu Shanshan, Ling Weiwei quickly said, "Shanshan, something’s wrong! Lin Fei has left!"
What?!
Mu Shanshan showed an expression of disbelief. She rushed outside, looking at the endless sea, unable to find that endlessly familiar figure.
"Shanshan, the servants here said that when Lin Fei left, he told them to tell you to stay here and wait for him to come back." Ling Weiwei didn’t understand what was on Lin Fei’s mind, what urgent matter needed his immediate attention.
"I know," Mu Shanshan replied calmly.
Ling Weiwei felt worried hearing Mu Shanshan’s calm voice, fearing Mu Shanshan had suffered a blow. She reassured, "Shanshan, you don’t need to worry. Lin Fei probably had something urgent to deal with, he should be back soon."
Mu Shanshan nodded and said, "I know. He talked to me about it. Just didn’t expect things to be so urgent, leaving so early. I will wait for him to come back."
"Then Shanshan, we’ll head back first; we’ll sort out your work matters with Shen Xuan, and we can send you emails to handle them," Ling Weiwei said.
"No need, I’ll go with you. Although this is my place, it’s not where I belong, so I won’t wait for him here." Mu Shanshan spoke.
"What if Lin Fei comes back and can’t find you?" Ling Weiwei worried.
"He’ll find me," Mu Shanshan said lightly, yet her heart was exceedingly lost.
The cruise ship restarted, only it was for the return journey. When Mu Shanshan left, the servants particularly asked her to stay, but Mu Shanshan insisted on leaving, and they couldn’t do anything. Mu Shanshan also left a message for Lin Fei through the servants, telling them to ask Lin Fei to find her if he returned.
The massive cruise ship emitted rolling smoke, sailing towards the opposite shore. Mu Shanshan stood atop the cruise ship, as though flying over the sea on the top floors of the high-rise cruise ship, yet tears flowed down her face.
Her tears were immediately wiped away by the sea breeze, and Mu Shanshan couldn’t understand why Lin Fei would suddenly leave her, even without saying a word, not even telling him, how could she not let her thoughts run wild.
"Shanshan."
Mu Hong heard his daughter had come to the top deck, so he came too, knowing Lin Fei had left, it would surely hurt Mu Shanshan, and Mu Shanshan must be very sad.
Because Mu Hong knew, when a man leaves, the woman must be sad; he had been through this. Although he didn’t know why Lin Fei left, he knew Lin Fei’s departure would make his precious daughter cry.
After all, yesterday had been a happy day for Mu Shanshan, yet today was completely the opposite, hard for anyone to accept.
Hearing Mu Hong’s voice, Mu Shanshan in the distance didn’t want Mu Hong to see her crying, reached out her hand for the handkerchief in her bag.
But when pulling out the handkerchief, she suddenly pulled out a folded piece of paper, which was blown away by the fierce sea wind as it was pulled out of the handbag...
