CHAPTER 503: 502. SOMETHING BAD (2)
Sol didn’t understand what Ocean meant by something bad was going to happen soon but he nearly jumped when he heard the knock on window.
Ocean moved fluidly walking towards the window and undid the latch before letting the raven in. The bird croaked once before perching itself over Ocean’s arm, Ocean scratched its head before he undid the message that was clasped on the hook over its leg.
"What is it?" Sol asked as he climbed down from the bed and drew closer.
Ocean saw the words on the small piece of paper and it only confirmed the quest that he had just seen.
He wasn’t expecting everything to go just as smoothly as it was. He knew somewhere something would go wrong eventually and here it was.
"The Golden Serpent sent some spies from Sestia here to create a chaos." Ocean spoke making Sol frown.
"What?! But the war had just ended if she did something like that then..." He didn’t voice the words further and Ocean gave him a blank look.
"Her motive is clear," Ocean started, "the war had begun for the sea routes and Eric, not only ended this war with a peace but also got two sea routes for himself. She has a legitimate reason for not letting it go without a fight."
"But if the chaos happens right here in Denril then it will spark the war again and even Eric and we all are here!" Sol spoke but Ocean’s expression didn’t change.
"That’s what she wants," Ocean told him with a grim face.
"All of her enemies are in one place in a place which was once a country we were at war with. What’s the better way to get rid of us all by sparking the war and ruining any talks of peace? She could manipulate the people of Sestia and gain more followers for her son if she proves that whatever happens here was solely Eric’s doing and we were his accomplices. She will not only have the kingdom but also my Oasis Foundation."
Sol felt nauseous hearing it, he took a moment to settle himself before he looked at Ocean.
"What’s the plan now?"
The corners of Ocean’s lips twitched before he sighed turning to look back at the chessboard before he sighed.
"Time for an emergency meeting," Ocean announced before he ushered the raven away and grabbed an overcoat.
"Stay here, I’ll go get everyone." Ocean said as he wore the coat.
"Wait, why aren’t you worried about it? Did you already know something like this will happen?" Sol asked.
Ocean glanced back at him, "I can’t not keep an eye on our enemies. I knew the Golden Serpent would try something so, I had people keep an eye on both sides. This," he brought up the piece of paper, "was prepared right on the day we came here."
Sol’s eyes widened, "Why didn’t you tell me, then?"
Ocean didn’t say anything for a moment before he sighed, "Because this is a worst case scenario, I was planning to nip the situation in its bud but there have been an anamoly and that’s why we must prepare for what’s to come."
Sol’s eyes grew harder along with his voice as he asked, "What’s coming?"
Ocean was paused again as if finding a right word before he said, "An ambush."
Sol couldn’t question anymore as Ocean stepped out of the room.
Ocean made his way swiftly to Davian’s room which was right beside his, he knocked on the door and it opened immediately.
"Master?"
Ocean’s eyes narrowed a bit, Davian was dressed in his pajamas but his hair was dripping wet creating the wet dots on his silk white shirt. Ocean resisted himself from commenting about it.
"Emergency meeting in my room, now." Ocean ordered.
"What? Why?" Davian asked but Ocean was already moving.
"Just wait there, I’ll get the rest of them." Ocean hollered behind him.
He gathered his family members, rousing his grandfather and father from their sleeps before he asked them all to gather in his room for the said emergency.
Ocean stopped with Lyall who was on standby outsidenof Duke Aurelius’ room.
"Lyall, I want you to give my message to two people right away and come straight to my room after that." Lyall bowed hearing Ocean’s command and after further instructions he left swiftly.
Sol and others waited patiently till Ocean roused Eric giving him the same message of going to his room for the emergency meeting, Eric frowned but he didn’t say anything else.
They walked back to Ocean’s room together and once inside, Ocean closed the door walking up to the men who were now gathered around the chessboard.
Since everyone were roused from their sleep in the middle of the night, almost everyone were in their nightwear only Marquis Fairisles was dressed in a robe.
Ocean saw Duke Aurelius looking at the chessboard with only a thin shirt and trousers on before he walked over and grabbed the blanket from the bed.
"Can you tell us what’s going on?" Marquis asked.
Ocean nodded before he walked up and placed the blanket over Duke Aurelius’ shoulders.
"Like I said, it’s an emergency." Ocean said.
"Has something happened in Sestia?" Eric asked getting concerned and Ocean shook his head.
"No, but something is going to happen here."
The men glanced at each other before Ocean gestured them all to take seats. Rune, Marquis Fairisles and Duke Aurelius sat on the couch, practically squished together while Eric and Davian sat opposite to each other on the armchairs. Davian held Sol over his lap and the chess board now sat in the center.
Ocean stayed on his feet with one chair empty.
"Why don’t you sit?" Sol asked and Ocean nodded his eyes firm on the chess board.
He used telekinesis to shift the positions of the chess pieces before hearing a knock on the door and frowned a bit before he walked over to open the door.
Lyall stood there with Arian.
Ocean didn’t say anything to Lyall who looked guilty, "I told His Highness that it would be inappropriate to come with me but he didn’t listen."
Ocean’s gaze shifted onto Arian feigning the composed expression, "Why have you followed him all the way here, Your Highness?"
Arian crossed his arms at his chest, "Being the Crown Prince of this kingdom, I think I have the authority to question the man who had been sneaking into the annex that has royal family."
Ocean released a deep sigh before he gestured for Lyall to go on the room, he wordlessly walked in. Catching Lyall sneaking about wasn’t something that anybody could do but this guy who wielded the Dragon sword surely was capable. Even now the large sword was attached to his hip.
"So, are you going to tell me what you’re up to in the middle of the night or are we going to stand here till the dawn?" Arian asked.
Ocean didn’t feel like it but now that Arian was here, there was no harm in involving him in the meeting as well.
"Please come inside, I’ll explain." Ocean said stepping out of the way gesturing Arian to walk in.
Arian stared at him for a moment before he walked inside the room, he was surprised to see all the Sestian citizens in there.
"Were you having a party or planning a coup? Why have you gathered all of them here?" Arian asked while the already gathered men looked uncomfortable, Lyall had taken a stand behind the three men of Reina’s family.
Ocean ran a hand through his hair, his usual limitless patience was running low.
"Please have a seat, I have also just called them over. And also, from hence on, please ignore my lack of honorifics. It’s a serious matter."
Everyone frowned, and Arian took a seat watching the chessboard curiously.
Davian who didn’t seem much tensed asked, "Is it about the thing you asked Mis-"
"Yes!" Ocean almost shouted, before Davian could bring up Reina in front of everyone and announce his date to her family.
"What’s this about? What are you hiding from us?" Rune asked looking suspiciously at Ocean and Davian.
Ocean cleared his throat, "Let me explain it all first and then I’ll tell you what the problem is. I’d appreciate it if you don’t interrupt me and also, I’d ask Crown Prince Arian to have some consideration on our part since you might find it offending."
Arian was quiet for a moment before he nodded and everyone else also voiced their agreements before Ocean started explaining about the spies sent to Denril to create a chaos and threaten the peace.
Almost everyone in the room except for Sol seemed like they wanted to say something but they kept their mouths shut because Ocean wasn’t showing any signs of stopping until he was done explaining it all.
"And just a while ago, I got this message from my network that they did manage to grab three of the six remaining men but the rest three fled. I’m sure they would do something large so, I wanted to ask for all of your cooperation in case anything out of order happens in near future and help each other." Ocean explained before he turned and looked at Arian who was sitting silently after hearing everything.
Eric’s eyebrows were firmly set in a frown, Duke Aurelius and Marquis Fairisles looked deep in thought, Rune was staring at the chess board while Davian curled his arms around Sol resting his chin over his shoulder.
"I think I know where they could show up," Rune said looking at the chessboard which Ocean had purposely made so that it would give others a clue.
Davian hummed, "It’s pretty obvious because a chaos here would be enough to start the war again."
Arian also looked at the chessboard where most of the white chess pieces were gathered together with the three pawns surrounding them and the black Queen sitting farther back as if to watch the show.
"In that case," Arian said before he turned his eyes on Ocean, the fiery rage was barely concealed in those orange orbs as he asked, "How are we going to prevent it?"
Ocean inhaled and exhaled deeply before saying, "We can’t prevent it, we’ll have to face it."
