CHAPTER 111: HIS PRIORITY

Jenna was half asleep when the carriage pulled over, coming to a halt. She rubbed her eyes tiredly, shifting her head to the side. When the door opened, bringing in more light inside the carriage, Jenna opened her eyes fully.

"We are here, My Lady," the coachman announced. With a stifled yawn, Jenna acknowledged him with a hum before stepping out of the carriage. It was easier for her to walk around in the dress now that she had ripped it.

For all the stress throughout the night, Jenna was glad she ripped the damned dress apart. All she needed at the moment was to have a clean bath, a new dress, and a wide bed to sleep in. She felt aches at every joint in her body. Staying awake for a whole day was enough to do that to her.

"You’re Lady Jenna, from the house of Brown." The woman at the gate stopped Jenna with a short cane.

Jenna staggered back as it came as a surprise, but she still nodded. "Yes—"

"Lady Rachel," the woman replied with a pleasant smile. "I’ll be your chaperone until you’re besotted."

Jenna gave the woman a bow with a smile. She hated herself for a minute to think the woman hated her just because she stopped her rudely. Seeing her smile sweetly made Jenna relax a little.

"I am Lady Jenna, I put my care in your hands," Jenna said after standing straight.

Lady Rachel’s smile didn’t disappear, but her cane did as she now moved it away from Jenna’s face. "You must be tired, I’ve had a room cleaned out for you... take a quick nap, you’ll be out for lunch soon."

Jenna almost gasped in ecstasy. It was as though the woman read her mind. "Thank you," she mouthed.

The woman returned the gesture with a half smile. Scanning around, she found a servant who walked briskly with his face down.

"You, show the lady her room."

Jenna thanked the woman once more before leaving with the servant. Walking in silence, Jenna felt the need to ask questions about her new place.

"Is this where the council meet?" she asked, a yawn escaping her lips.

The servant didn’t raise his head but instead muffled a yes.

Jenna furrowed her brows. It was a behavior she found in servants that worked with Rhane. She was surprised to see that it was also the same with the ones who worked here. Thinking about Rhane made Jenna wish she could appear in his room and with both of them in bed.

It was after a while that Jenna noticed something strange. They weren’t going in the direction of any room, but instead—

"Who are you?!" Jenna asked, grabbing the servant by the collar.

The young man raised his head and bowed. "The Scourge sent me."

Jenna never imagined that at the mention of Rhane’s name, she would feel so excited. This time, instead of panicking, she dragged the man to the closet hallway.

"What are you doing here?" she whispered, hiding her body.

The young man smiled. Placing two fingers in between his lips, he whistled, and immediately another joined them.

"There’s two of you?" Jenna asked with her eyes wide with surprise. "If you get caught Rhane will be disqualified, leave now."

The servants looked at each other and smiled.

"The Scourge asked to give this to you," one of them handed Jenna a bag.

Jenna stretched her hand and collected the sack. She didn’t know what was inside, and it excited her even more.

"Also, one of us is going to stay behind. If anything happens... you can always let us know."

The servants raised their faces for Jenna to see clearly.

"He will be working in the kitchen, let him know if you need anything." The shorter one pointed at the younger-looking boy.

Jenna nodded, holding the sack to her chest. "What is his name?"

"You won’t need that, it’ll be suspicious if a Lady knows what to call a servant. But The Scourge said you can name him Percy."

Jenna threw her head back and laughed softly. "Percy would rip his hair out if he hears of this..." she muttered.

"We’ll take our leave now, for your room... I heard it’s that one there," the Percy from Rhane pointed out.

Jenna now relaxed, gave them a smile. "Now leave before you get caught," she waved for them to leave.

"And one more thing, Master asked that you leave your window open tonight and wait for him."

"My window?" Jenna repeated. "Why—wait, is Rhane going to come here?!" She slapped her mouth, squatting down to hide.

The servants shrugged. "He did not say," they replied, then bowed and quickly left like they were never there.

Jenna stood up straight after the servants had left. She paced back and forth, thinking about what she just heard. Why Rhane had asked her to leave her window open. Was he going to abduct her and run? It would be great, but then... the consequences would be heavy.

"Oh, Rhane," Jenna murmured to herself.

"Are you lost?"

Jenna jerked, as she wasn’t expecting to see anyone. "N-o I..."

"You’re Lady Jenna?" the young maiden asked with a smile.

Jenna nodded in reply. "Do you know who I am?"

The girl chuckled. "Everyone knows who you are," she said in reply. "Follow me, I’ll show you to your room."

Jenna trotted behind the girl. She was glad to have come to a place that welcomed her very well. At least she didn’t have to worry about herself, all she needed to do was focus on waiting for Rhane.

But Rhane wanted to abduct her and run!

"This is your room," the girl opened the door. Once Jenna entered, she closed it and left.

Jenna ran to the bed. Tearing open the sack, she poured everything on the bed. Her cheeks burned with how she tried to stop herself from smiling.

On the bed lay her nightwear, a bed cover, and the same sheets she used with Rhane. It still had his scent on it, and finally a shirt.

It wasn’t a grand gesture, but Jenna’s heart bubbled with joy. When and how did Rhane even think of such? She didn’t know. In the midst of chaos and blood, Rhane still made her his priority.

Jenna picked up the shirt and sniffed it. She closed her eyes, burying her face into it. She couldn’t get enough of Rhane’s scent. In fact, she wanted it strapped into her skin.

"Urghhh, I miss him so much," Jenna rolled on the bed. "But I don’t want him breaking any more rules!" Now sitting down on the bed, Jenna glanced at her window as she chewed her nails nervously. Her thoughts were on how to stop Rhane from abducting her when he comes at night.
