The Last Gentleman
Chapter 1081: 1079: Absolute Power
CHAPTER 1081: 1079: ABSOLUTE POWER
Yi Chen and the blind elder’s mission was known only internally within the disaster,
The whole process from their arrival at the Seventh Heaven to the internal canteen of the asylum took twenty-three minutes,
If it wasn’t purely coincidental, there are only three possibilities,
1. As soon as the two set foot in the Seventh Heaven, NO.2, who was confined in the deepest area, caught their scent and began his actions, slaughtering all the staff (humanoid angels) responsible for the asylum within twenty minutes, selecting the finest raw materials, and preparing a meal for three, awaiting their arrival.
2. During this confinement, the ’equal coexistence’ proposed by Heaven’s Supreme God, Jesus, was already accepted by NO.2. When the zombie virus broke out, Jesus left with all the personnel, leaving everything here to NO.2.
3. Someone within the disaster leaked information to NO.2 in advance, and the other party took action ahead of time, awaiting their arrival.
However, this possibility seems unlikely,
It’s true there are individuals among the disasters who can directly transmit information to the lowest level of the asylum, like those mastering infinite space, or Gap, whose fissures spread across all planes.
But the reason Yi Chen and the elder were tasked with transmitting information is primarily due to NO.2’s personal character and potential danger.
If a lewd voyeur like Gap were to come into contact with him, he might be killed outright.
Ruben didn’t trust the Manager, a devoted member of the Annihilation Faction, fearing he might conspire with NO.2 in private, so naturally, they wouldn’t allow them to make contact.
Yi Chen and the elder seemed to be the best choice.
From this perspective, both the first and second scenarios are plausible. If it’s the first, the man before them would be truly terrifying.
...
On the tray was a well-marinated and roasted pig’s trotter, though the shape seemed somewhat off,
as well as slices of kidney meat simply cooked and devoid of odor, drizzled with a pale pink sauce.
The aroma filled the air, even stirring Yi Chen’s appetite slightly, despite the tense environment.
NO.2 had just finished his meal, retracting the napkin from his collar to gently wipe his mouth.
"Due to the tight timeline, the quality and quantity of dishes are limited, but the ingredients are of high quality—I hope they are to your satisfaction."
Though on the surface everything appeared quite amicable,
both Yi Chen and the elder could sense an interminable threat,
Instinctively, Yi Chen knew that if he didn’t partake in the meal before him, he might be labeled as food himself. Moreover, the previous visit here under the guise of the God Alliance, where he lost an arm, was still fresh in his memory, applying considerable pressure.
Even though Yi Chen had already become a representative of the Tenth Disaster, having encountered various malice and even fought with NO.4’s Gap, as well as engaging in arena battles with ten former disasters last week,
none of these figures could compare to NO.2 in certain aspects, the disparity quite large.
Though he didn’t know NO.2’s personal details, Yi Chen was certain that the value of his "Dangerous Radiation" was maxed out, perhaps even exceeding the asylum’s maximum measurable value.
[Eat]
The voice of Director Cao emerged from deep within his thought, urging him to consume the meal;
hesitating any longer might truly lead to death.
Moreover, Yi Chen’s main task wasn’t here;
he needed to be in optimal condition to head to the Sick Focus. If he expended all his energy because of NO.2, or suffered irreparable harm, things would become truly problematic.
The blind elder beside him had already begun eating.
Yi Chen picked up the dinner knife, skillfully starting to slice the meat, recalling the gentlemanly etiquette learned from Zion, and slowly delivered a perfectly cubed piece of pig’s trotter, even in fat and lean, to his mouth.
With perfect roasting time, the fat melted instantly in his mouth, the hot oil wrapping around the lean part, releasing delicious protein flavors stimulating his entire palate.
For an instant, he felt as though he’d grown angel wings, soaring freely across Heaven.
As Yi Chen marveled at the quality of the meal, he confirmed one thing: the roasted pig’s trotter was indeed pork, not another creature’s leg.
Suggesting indirectly that NO.2 hadn’t slaughtered the asylum’s staff but had used regular ingredients from the canteen kitchen.
"Delicious..."
Yi Chen and the elder both offered praise for the meal—a necessary component of the exchange.
Additionally, the blind elder was tasked by Ruben to mention the Great Annihilation post-meal. However, before he could speak, NO.2 preemptively addressed it.
"Annihilation is at hand, the entire Divine Domain echoes with this voice, which is why I’ve come up from below."
Seeing this, the elder stood, "Since you are already aware, we won’t disturb you further. We greatly appreciate your meal."
NO.2 raised his palm, making a gesture akin to forbidding:
"Wait a moment.
I haven’t been back to the Evil Circle in a long time;
there are matters I’d like to discuss with you both."
However, the blind elder’s literary core is that of a retired veteran, executing tasks almost obsessively.
Since he has already delivered the notification, he needs to immediately return to the City of Evil to gather with others, ensuring the subsequent Great Annihilation proceeds smoothly instead of wasting time here.
"Apologies, the boss instructed us to return immediately. Mr. Yi, let’s go."
"Oh, is that so?"
NO.2 stood, not directly blocking their departure but rather walking to a nearby table, starting a pre-set phonograph, and placing the needle down.
As the needle moved across the vinyl, "Faded" resonated within the church-like canteen.
[Fifteen minutes]
Still, the three sat there, the mission seemingly unfinished.
Yi Chen’s expression was frozen, Dead Sea’s waters perspiring coldly down his face,
the blind elder had returned to his initial seat, donning an apron and wielding knife and fork, seemingly eager to feast on something.
NO.2 stood behind him, the elder’s entire skull cap removed, exposing a unique brain structure.
With NO.2’s elegant operation, he sliced away the entire frontal lobe, placing it in even slices on a platter, cooking it in a pan for the elder’s consumption.
The elder’s gaze was vacant as he sent slice after slice of the cooked frontal lobe into his mouth, repeatedly muttering, "Delicious... delicious..."
NO.2 returned to his place, adjusting his attire, then looked at Yi Chen on the other side.
"It seems that in my absence, the Evil Circle has experienced great change, causing someone like you, not the origin of malice, to become a disaster,
I am quite curious about one thing concerning you,
The moment my ’collections’ receive a label, they can only be seized if taken by myself.
Yet when we first met, the arm I collected from you was taken by some force across space. Can you enlighten me a bit, Mr. Yi?
Such an ability must surely be extraordinary and likely a very important secret of yours. In exchange, you can use the most robust Physical body in the Evil Circle as you wish;
such top-grade ingredients are rare indeed."
Yi Chen followed NO.2’s gaze back to the dumbfounded elder beside him, grilling his own frontal lobe while maintaining a foolish grin. It seems the time to convene with William at the Sick Focus might indeed be delayed.
