The Last King Of Darkness
Chapter 1026 - 531: Divine Tower
CHAPTER 1026: CHAPTER 531: DIVINE TOWER
In the team, apart from a few, most people are seeing the Divine Tower for the first time.
Even Olivia had only seen it from a distance in previous missions; it is her first time approaching it closely.
Not only were the warriors filled with awe, but the scholars were also immersed in emotions of wonder and ecstasy, having seen references to the Divine Tower in countless ancient books.
They knew of its power from the relics left by the ancients. Regardless of their field, all scholars had fervently studied it, imagining whether it held the secret to saving the world.
It was only today that they saw it for real.
Professor Bins also gazed at the two miraculous towers, speaking slowly.
"The Second Epoch is also known as the Epoch of Gods, the beginning of all things, the era of light. In this epoch, the world’s order was established, with gods, giant dragons, elves, giants, old dominions, humans, and all beings vying for power, life flourishing."
"It was also in this epoch that the Dark Mist appeared, plunging everything into silence, twisting living beings, and spreading pollution across the land. In this long era, countless secrets lie dormant within. What was the era like before the Dark Mist? Why did the Dark Mist come? How did the gods and powerful entities meet their demise? These are the answers we desperately wish to know."
Olivia sighed lightly, "Indeed, to understand the past is to walk towards the future."
Professor Barrett corrected, "Understanding why the past perished helps us avoid repeating it, and knowing why tragedies occurred helps us prevent them."
This statement resonated with everyone, capturing their purpose in pursuing history.
The past itself has no value; it’s only because of the present that it holds value.
Professor Bins said, "Initially, humanity centered around the Divine City, with gods fighting alongside them. The mighty Divine Cities were scattered across the land, with humans’ main enemies being the Abyss, and demons, giant dragons, or evil giants being secondary foes."
"After the Dark Mist emerged, the dark twisted creatures became the enemies of all living beings, with Divine Cities being the main force against them. The gods protecting the Divine City resided at the pinnacle of the Divine Temple, which is the Divine Towers before us."
"Its status is equivalent to the Holy Fire Sacrificial Ground in the Royal City."
Olivia nodded.
"So, we are exploring a Royal City of the Second Epoch. It’s older and rarer, perhaps more powerful, and here is its Holy Fire Sacrificial Ground. I shall challenge an entity akin to the Starry Queen, who might be stronger, considering it’s an Ancient God."
Professor Bins adjusted his glasses, calmly saying, "Not only that, Sagus Ancient City is quite a peculiar ancient city. Two deities resided here, one of whom is the Ancient God of Destiny, Yanosada."
The other is the Ancient God of Flesh Rebirth, Heragotos.
Rod silently added in his mind without speaking.
Professor Bins continued:
"Fortunately, although we don’t know the other Ancient God’s name, the White Tower informed us that it has perished entirely and should not exist in the Divine Tower."
"And the Ancient God of Destiny has been dismembered, with only its residual body and soul here."
Olivia nodded lightly, "Indeed, if luck is on our side, we might proceed smoothly."
Just then, a mass of white mist drifted back, coalescing into the form of Vito.
"I circled both giant towers and found no entrance."
Professor Bins said, "These are two giant towers but also one. The towers merge, so the entrance cannot be in a conventional place. We need to find clues."
Olivia nodded slightly, "I’m counting on you all."
Professor Bins and Professor Barrett lived up to their reputations, discovering the clue after only a moment before the tower.
"Here."
Professor Barrett shouted.
"Dig here."
The ground of the Divine City is reinforced by Spiritual Energy, usually hard to break, but they have "Iron Man" Riegel, whose "Immortal Body" is very resilient, making it easy to dig.
About half an hour later, Riegel had excavated a large pit in the ground, revealing a pure black door.
It lay on the ground like a cellar entrance, with a destiny scale symbol engraved on the door panels and an intertwined mass of blood and flesh.
Professor Bins said, "This is the entrance, the Divine Symbol of the Ancient God of Destiny, who has a rare twin relationship with this unknown Ancient God."
Riegel delivered a heavy strike to the door.
With a bang, the door didn’t budge; instead, his hand tingled with numbness.
"So hard!"
Professor Barrett’s eyes gleamed as he stared at the door:
"This is a rare, high-purity Star Marrow, solidified by Spiritual Energy, far exceeding imaginations in hardness."
Olivia was about to step forward, but Rod stopped her.
"Let me."
With a thought, [Divine Sense] was activated.
Divinity -10
A clear energy surged straight from above into his head, his thoughts cutting through like lightning, recalling every detail about the two Ancient Gods from memory.
Rod’s wisdom instantly reached a divine level, with the logic chain extending infinitely in a second.
He immediately knew how to open the door. Placing his hands on the door, he simulated his Spiritual Energy into the waveform of the Ancient God of Flesh Rebirth, the resonating ripples instantly bringing forth a familiar aura for the door.
Then, with rumbling sounds, the door, dormant for tens of millions of years, opened just like that.
It even completely unloaded its defenses, detaching from its hinges with a crack.
Seeing the scholars and warriors stunned, Rod reminded, "Why not hurry up and collect it, such good materials."
Only then did the warriors awaken as if from a dream, hurriedly packing them up, sent by Rod into the Dream Realm.
—This is also why they can embark lightly, as most supplies are carried by Rod, except for those lying frozen in Spirit Coffins; living people cannot enter the Dream Realm.
However, for certain reasons, the Dream Realm cannot infinitely store items. The transfer ritual can send many items at once, but it won’t reset unless the items are depleted.
Rod’s hands being too small also limited the amount and size of items he could carry in.
In conclusion, the Dream Realm has storage capabilities, quite strong, but not limitless.
After the door was dismantled, it revealed a dark tunnel inside.
Olivia’s body shimmered with bright radiance as she led the way inside.
Everyone followed, including scholars and researchers.
This is the final battle, and once they obtain the residual body of the Ancient God of Destiny, they will immediately return to the Royal City, thus everyone must come along.
The passage was far longer than anticipated, with Professor Barrett stating in a deep voice, "The space within the tower doesn’t match the exterior."
After walking for tens of minutes, they finally entered the fabled interior of the Divine Tower.
This was an unusually vast space, gray, gloomy, with strange floating dust, filled with fragments and debris, yet it seemed not to have endured the passage of ages.
Everything seemed to be frozen in the moment of destruction.
Inside the tower, there was no upward space, only forward.
The space had undergone strange changes, far from the tall tower structure seen outside.
Everyone grew tense, this kind of unusual situation was unlike anything they had seen in their lives.
Olivia’s body erupted with intense moonlight as the great sword formed in her hands. She would immediately open the Moonlight Domain upon encountering enemies.
Under her leadership, the group cautiously ventured inward.
Unexpectedly, what they thought might involve many battles was surprisingly peaceful; no monsters were encountered, just the gloomy space, floating dust, fragments, and debris, and nothing else.
With a clear path, they quickly reached the "tower top," the residence of the deities.
Here, a vast, vast space occupied the center, a massive altar stood.
The altar was entwined with a strange spiritual light.
