The Last King Of Darkness
Chapter 997 - 519: Crisis and Betrayal
CHAPTER 997: CHAPTER 519: CRISIS AND BETRAYAL
Rod returned to the Royal City without understanding why, but he did not see the King.
The Holy Fire Sacrificial Ground was sealed off, with a large number of Fire Priests and Fire Guardians guarding around it, on high alert.
The Fire Priest Captain told Rod that the King was clearing the surrounding environment of the Holy Fire in the Spirit Realm. Due to the sudden surge of the Holy Fire’s power, the original balance of the Spirit Realm was disrupted. The firelight shone deeper into the realm, disturbing many foul and filthy entities. Angered, they began to besiege the Holy Fire’s projection in the Spirit Realm, and the King’s spiritual body had entered the realm to fight.
During this period, no one was allowed to enter the Holy Fire Sacrificial Ground.
Before sealing the Holy Fire Sacrificial Ground, the King conveyed his command that if Rod arrived while he was in retreat, he should go to the White Tower to find Lord Meredith.
This matter was related to him.
Rod frowned. Anything involving the Master of the White Tower, Meredith, would become very complicated.
Perhaps this was a side effect of mastering the power to foresee fate.
Just not knowing what the matter was.
As Rod pondered, he arrived at the White Tower.
As the eighth Fire Son of Trolian, although he did not yet have the corresponding strength, he was recognized by the Ashen Throne, already a legitimate Special Level Combatant.
The White Tower received him warmly, almost all apprentices without unavoidable duties came out. A large number of Prophets, Observers, and Astrologers crowded the entrance, each wanting to glimpse the legendary "Fire Angel", "Light of Humanity", and "Cause of Turning Point", to get a share of his "luck".
Some even tried to predict his fate on the spot, to see what was so miraculous about him.
Unfortunately, none succeeded, all predictions failed, adding a layer of mystery to his identity.
Rod didn’t mind at first, interacting with them friendly and saying things to boost confidence and morale.
It was like harvesting humanity.
Until he vaguely heard some words from the crowd.
"...Hey, did you hear? Contact with the black vessel increases chances of pregnancy!"
"Really, a friend of mine got pregnant the night he just glanced at her."
"Can it work for men?"
"Hey, hey, have you heard, his saliva can extend time..."
Rod couldn’t listen anymore. He could hardly believe this was coming from a group of Prophets and Astrologers. As the rumors spread, many looked at him with glowing eyes, and quite a few were already eyeing his mouth.
Luckily, the Great Prophet Iyeta arrived in time and dispersed these nonsensical fellows.
"Go back, all of you go back, you bunch of ignorant wretches!"
"If you don’t return to your posts, I’ll put all of you in confinement!"
"Paula! Do you want to lose your week’s wages?"
"Adil, do you still want your Observatory use application approved?"
"Pan, if you utter another nonsense, forget about your monthly supply allocation!"
With kicks and shoves, Iyeta finally drove them off.
"Honored Fire Son, Your Excellency."
Iyeta bowed courteously to Rod, showing humility and politeness, completely unlike his earlier arrogance and coarseness.
"I apologize for the disturbance these folks caused you, I’ll punish them properly... please follow me, the teacher awaits you at the top of the tower."
"I understand, thank you."
Rod replied politely, hurrying along with him upward.
This was his third time stepping into the White Tower. The familiar breath of the Spirit Realm came at him, reminding him that the interior of the White Tower was essentially in a state of superposition with a plane—it simultaneously exists in the Material World and the Spirit Realm.
"Lord Iyeta, may I know what happened this time?"
Iyeta didn’t answer immediately. His bald head reflecting the White Tower’s lights seemed a bit melancholic.
After a few seconds of silence, he replied, "A very troublesome matter, related to the trip to Sagus Divine City, let’s have the teacher explain it to you."
Rod’s heart skipped a beat.
Sagus Divine City? Didn’t the King say I shouldn’t go?
Why am I being called back?
With a belly full of questions, Rod arrived at the top of the tower.
This vast hall, bathed in blue light, had a floor covered with shattered blue gemstones. The sky was a single piece of pure blue crystal, under which sat the owner of the White Tower, the most legendary Prophet in history, carved from a huge Blue Jade sphere.
Meredith.
Compared to the last time they met, he had aged greatly, his face full of deep wrinkles, eyes cloudy and yellowing, back hunched, as if all his vitality had vanished; his body was emaciated, seemingly a mere shadow of life.
Rod was taken aback: "What... what happened to Lord Meredith?"
As if hearing his voice, Meredith slowly raised his head. The moment he saw Rod, the cloudy eyes emitted a kind light.
"Ah, young Rod, you’ve finally come."
His voice was very soft, like a ghost whispering.
Rod had to concentrate to hear him clearly.
Iyeta whispered, "The teacher calls you, go over."
Rod, complicated in expression, quickly walked over.
The closer he got, the more he felt Meredith’s life was nearing its end, death’s dusk was upon him, as if he could leave this world at any moment.
