The Legend of the Constellar King
Chapter 62: secret quest
When Xerxes and his companions saw that there was no one who could cure the monster's curse, not even the nation of Latherus which helped Xerxes, they were only afraid to find out the mystery of the curse. But Xerxes knew that the only one who could provide a solution to his problem was the holy nation of Cypriox, a country that stands against the evil forces of darkness. So he said goodbye to Matheros, telling him that he was going to Cypriox, but he instructed him that no one should know about his departure.
"If anyone wants to speak to me, tell them I have no time for conversation," he said to Matheros. He put on a thick green cloak, which made his appearance somewhat murky to Matheros. The dagger on Xerxes's shoulder glinted and he tucked his long sword into its scabbard, making sure it was tied securely. He thought about the long journey ahead, the many miles he would travel, so he also prepared his water, food, and money.
"Are you sure about this?" Matheros asked, his gaze heavy and fixed on Xerxes. "I'm just worried that the Moonatoria soldiers might launch an attack."
"I'll be back as soon as I find a cure," Xerxes said, taking a long staff wrapped in cloth. "Watch over my son, Maximus. The monster could return to the palace at any time."
"Don't worry, I'll take care of him," Matheros replied, the promise to ensure the safety of Xerxes's son audible in his voice.
Xerxes left the palace quietly, accompanied by a few guards for their journey. The night was cold, owls were hooting, and they boarded a boat on the great Certax River. The moonlight was bright, and Xerxes could see the river's great length.
The Cetus entity, the monster that had attacked and nearly killed Xerxes, was the reason he was forced to seek help from Cypriox for a cure to the curse the monster gave his children. In reality, this monster was a Cetus entity in a temporary form. It took on a human-like appearance because of a ritual used by the leader of an organization the Cypriox call the Shadow of the Crux. Marguel is the recognized leader of the organization and a skilled magician. He was the one who sent the monster to find a child foretold by prophecy. In the swamp that connects to the Certax River, the monster's presence was followed by Maximus, who had an amazing sense of smell, like a wolf, when he sensed the mystery in the child's body.
"Lord, I failed to take the child who is very similar to what the prophecy foretold... because I felt the presence of the Orion." The monster's body trembled from head to tail and its head, with its fin and sharp, charcoal-black scales, was bowed. As it spoke in front of Marguel, the monster's body appeared weak, a result of the intense blinding light explosion at the Thallerion palace.
"I saw the whole event, do not be afraid, Cetus entity..." Marguel said, his face expressionless as if he wasn't human when he spoke. Since he was the one who created the ritual and lent the temporary physical body, he had the ability to see what the monster saw wherever it went, without the monster's knowledge. "I have something for you to do. Distract the king of Thallerion, and I will take care of the child." He, too, felt fear of the Orion entity, fearing that it might ruin the organization's plans, especially with the upcoming ceremony. But even with those worries, his eyes were like cold ice and his face was like a blank sheet of paper. It was not confirmed that Xerxes was chosen by the Orion entity, but Marguel decided to observe and distract Xerxes anyway. Without further ado, he healed the monster in an instant by touching its forehead with two fingers and whispering. The monster's tail wagged, a sign that it was well again, so Marguel immediately created a teleportation using the power of the Triangulum entity with a spell and a mixture of hand signals.
"As you wish, my Lord!" The monster's large eyes immediately gleamed at the hole Marguel had created, which led directly to the waters of Certax. It was like a fish seeing the sea, so excited, and it leaped as fast as a frog.
"It's time for you to summon the Draco!" the Triangulum entity whispered to him. "That child, he is indeed the one in the prophecy. That vision has finally been given a face."
The Cetus entity has not yet been chosen and wanders with the power given by the Triangulum to have a physical form. It can take on any form. Marguel went back to Barbarian city to tell his mother to prepare the ceremony. He also thought of deceiving the queen of Moonatoria for his future use.
"Azonia," Marguel said, suddenly appearing like a shadow behind Azonia.
"Who are you?" Azonia was frightened and backed away in shock. Azonia wondered how the man had entered her room. She immediately hugged her infant child. "How did you get into my room?"
"So clean and almost without a stain of error!" Marguel said, looking at the picture of the baby. "The fruit of lies. And the desire for power. She is growing up, isn't she?"
"What are you talking about? Who do you think you are?" Azonia said, almost screaming in fear.
"Tell the king of Moonatoria to attack Thallerion as soon as possible," Marguel said. Azonia's door opened and Harthur's face appeared. He was surprised to see Azonia leaning in a corner and spaced out.
"Are you talking to someone, Azonia? Why are you just standing there in the corner of your room?" Harthur asked, his forehead furrowed when he saw his wife's condition.
"No one!" Azonia's voice trembled but she still forced herself to speak without nervousness. "I was just looking over here."
"I heard you met with King Klopheous. What's the news? Will your force expansion push through?" Azonia asked.
"Yes, I spoke with him, but he is hesitant to ask for military aid from Englondraz."
Marguel returned to the Kingdom of Klopheous. He told him about the hidden treasure in the mountain that had a cave and was considered an old castle.
"Klopheous!" Marguel said. "Don't help Moonatoria in their war yet. That will only cause a waste of time. Why don't you go to the mountain, and there you will find the treasure that people have been looking for for a long time."
"Is it true that the treasure is there?" Klopheous asked. "When you think about it, what will I gain if I join Harthur in the war, since the old man said one of us will be killed in the war?"
"Is that old man still alive?" Marguel asked. It was Marguel who cursed the old man so that he became a puppet of King Klopheous and could not speak a prophecy unless ordered by Klopheous. Klopheous also did not know that this was happening. He only knew that the fortune teller willingly surrendered to him. That was so that the fortune teller would remain silent about Marguel's plans.
"Yes, he is in the cage. I made sure he couldn't escape. He is a legend, so why would I let him escape? He can give a lot of information about the future... but what I find strange is he doesn't want to talk about the treasure of Dreamithrio... and since you told me where the treasure is, I won't force him to do that anymore."
"The treasure is truly there. Bring Heshun; I know you know this man. He can help you. He knows a lot about the mysteries hidden from the public."
"What do you mean?"
"He is one of those who do illegal things in Dreamithrio. He imports illegal items to outsiders who do not have permission from you."
"Maybe he is the man who supplied weapons to the bandits who attacked the offering of Elanthro... which was supposedly for the Crux Religion."
"Don't mention that name to my face, I despise their religion!"
"No problem, if that's what you want."
After a few days, Xerxes arrived in the land of Cypriox, and he saw a lot of mouth-watering food being sold, so he bought some for them to eat.
"You look like foreigners?" the old woman selling the food said. The vendor could see that they were just ordinary people, but the old woman was curious, so Xerxes was forced to answer her.
"We are going to offer a sacrifice at the church," Xerxes replied. He showed her the staff wrapped in cloth.
"Oh! That's perfect. Go to the Sanctimum Oprys. There's a handsome, fair-skinned young man there who will help you with your offering. We call him—Hyushen." The old woman's face showed kindness, but Xerxes felt there was a bias; there were three churches in Cypriox, but the old woman encouraged them to go to the Sanctimum Oprys. But Xerxes's reason for this was the influence of Hyushen on the people in their town.
"He looks like a new priest?" Xerxes asked.
"No. He is not a priest yet. He is still studying for the priesthood and is a representative of King Wendzar."
"In that case, I think he will follow in King Wendzar's footsteps."
"No doubt... Who else would succeed to the position but them, blood to blood. Clan to clan!" the old woman said, with a hint of tiredness in her voice from old age. She nodded emphatically. "Wait, this place doesn't seem new to you. Have you offered a sacrifice at the church before?"
"Ah—" Xerxes paused for a moment, swallowed his food and spoke again. "Yes, ma'am..."
"In that case, why have I only seen you pass by here now? It's the first time I've seen someone as handsome as you." The old woman said.
"Oh, ma'am, it's been a long time since we've been to Cypriox, right, guys?" Xerxes's guards pretended to be his friends and agreed. Xerxes's eyes twinkled to go along with the old woman's jokes. And he smiled happily at the vendor.
"You handsome men really love to play with women." The old woman said, still giggling despite her age.
"Well, ma'am, we're leaving now... Your food is delicious."
"You're welcome. Come back if you get hungry again."
"We will, ma'am!" Xerxes replied.
They immediately went to the place the old woman mentioned and they were not disappointed to find it. They entered the church, and there was no one there; perhaps the service started yesterday. They stood at the church door. Someone immediately noticed where they were standing.
"Honorable guests, have you come here to make an offering?" said a tall and fair-skinned man.
"You must be the Hyushen they were talking about," Xerxes said.
"I am not him. He is not here now. He has been gone for a few days after being sent by the king to Elanthro."
"In that case, may I ask when he will return?" Xerxes thought it would be easier and safer to reveal that he was the king of Thallerion if he spoke directly with Hyushen, as he had a close connection to King Wendzar.
"I'm sorry, I don't know his exact return." Xerxes's shoulders slumped. "Do you know this Hyushen's house?"
"Hyushen's family is wealthy, so no matter who you ask, no one can tell you where Hyushen lives." Xerxes was shocked by what he heard and fell into deep thought.
"Friends, what is your purpose, and I hear you are looking for me." Hyushen arrived unexpectedly. Xerxes and his companions found that the real Hyushen was even more attractive than the one they had seen. He had prominent green eyes and fair, truly rich-looking skin. He was clean and decent. He was probably the most perfect man on the face of the earth.
"Gerion, I'll take care of them," Hyushen said. He was not rude in his dealings with his church companions. His ethical behavior was evident.
"King Xerxes," Hyushen greeted, which made Xerxes wonder how he knew him. "How are you? I know Thallerion is in chaos right now."
"How can you be sure I am the king of Thallerion?" Xerxes asked.
"You are not wearing a mask, so it's not hard for me to recognize you," Hyushen said, becoming serious. "If you are here to ask for aid, the door of Cypriox is open. That is the true purpose of this church."
"Hyushen, I know what you are thinking, that Thallerion used to be a follower of the Crux church, but that doesn't mean we need military or financial help right now... I am here..."
"I thought you came here to offer a sacrifice at the church to pray because of the current conflict that is happening again?"
"You are mistaken," Xerxes said. "I thought you had a sharp understanding of people."
"Oh, I'm sorry if I didn't notice that right away. In that case, let's go." Hyushen said, and he apologized profusely for his shallow understanding and for taking Xerxes's purpose literally.
"You are a representative, so I know that more than anyone here, you are the closest to the king of Sanctimum Oprys."
"King Wendzar and the other kings of Cypriox are currently facing problems because of the rebellious priests."
"I remember those rebellious priests were against the government system?" Xerxes said.
"You are mistaken about that," Hyushen said. "There have been changes in the religion in recent months. Haven't you heard about it?"
"It's unlikely that I would hear about such events, even if they have a big impact on the entire Crux religion. We are too focused on the political aspect," Xerxes said. They entered a door. "And my answer to what is happening in our country is that nothing has changed, except... Ossibus is troubling us."
"What pushed Moonatoria to get involved?" Hyushen asked.
"Believe it or not, I know this is a plot by Matar, the king of Ossibus," Xerxes said.
"King Wendzar also told me about the heroic deeds of Thallerion, and I also know a lot about you... You know... Your name is being talked about, especially when you killed the fierce bear of Moonatoria."
"That was a long time ago. It's just a part of the history between Moonatoria and Thallerion," Xerxes said.
"So, is Matar using that past to manipulate the current king, Harthur?"
"You know a lot about politicians, young man. Is that part of the training King Wendzar gives you?" Xerxes asked.
"I apologize, I lost control of that," Hyushen said. Hyushen understood Xerxes's question, whether his curiosity was personal or a guideline given by King Wendzar.
"I think you have passed that test..." Xerxes said. "You don't think in an ordinary way. You also know how to deal with people of high rank. You are truly worthy of being the successor to King Wendzar."
"It's too early to say that," Hyushen said.
Hyushen took them to King Wendzar's private place instead of the palace. And as Hyushen expected, the king was there, busy studying the current events happening in the nation of Cypriox. But before they arrived, Wendzar had a visitor.
"Is that you, Hyushen?" Wendzar said when he heard someone approaching.
