The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 118: Explanation
CHAPTER 118: CHAPTER 118: EXPLANATION
"Eleanor, we were too superstitious back then. Your mother was in very poor health, and the master said your fate clashed with hers. One of you had to go. At that time, your mother’s health was deteriorating, so I had no choice but to send you away. I’m sorry, Eleanor."
Nicholas Hollis spoke softly, and his gaze towards Eleanor Hollis was full of apology, but Eleanor had no intention of forgiving him.
After all, no matter how much he apologized, the fact that they abandoned her back then remained a fact.
She turned to leave, but Nicholas was quick and grabbed her wrist.
"Eleanor, I know you hold a grudge in your heart. Over these years, your father hasn’t felt well either. Now that your mother has completely recovered, I want to bring you back, okay? Let’s live as a family together."
A hint of surprise flashed in Eleanor’s eyes. She really didn’t expect him to want to bring her back. Her lips curled slightly as she shook off his hand.
"No need, Mr. Hollis."
"Then let’s have dinner together tomorrow night. I’ll send someone to pick you up. Just give me your address."
If she didn’t agree, it seemed she wouldn’t be able to leave tonight.
Eleanor glanced at Rachel Lynch and saw her face was twisted, clearly indicating she didn’t want Eleanor to go to dinner.
With an unpleasant impression of the person’s intentions, she provided her address and then spoke.
"Can you let go now?"
Nicholas’s face returned to gentleness, and he patted her head.
"Sure, I’ll have someone come to pick you up at five tomorrow evening. You’re working at Grandeur now, right? I’ll have someone pick you up directly from Grandeur then, so you won’t have to make an extra trip home."
This essentially blocked Eleanor’s reason for refusing. She initially thought of giving him her address first and then saying she had to work late so she couldn’t go.
But since he said this, it seemed that no matter how late she worked, someone would wait for her at the entrance of Grandeur.
She furrowed her brows slightly and could only nod.
"Alright."
Nicholas was satisfied and withdrew his hand, smiling at her.
"See you tomorrow then."
Eleanor left without looking back. Although she harbored resentment towards this father, it was not like the hatred she felt for Rachel Lynch.
This father, although he neglected her over the years, never made things difficult for her.
With this encounter, she lost the desire to shop and hailed a taxi to leave.
Rachel had been listening to the father-daughter conversation, her heart bleeding with hatred. What was Nicholas thinking? Was he really planning to bring Eleanor back home?
"Nicholas, what are you thinking? Do you really want to bring Eleanor back home?"
Nicholas was surprised by Rachel’s attitude towards Eleanor. No matter what, Eleanor was her child. Why was she so resistant to the idea?
"Stella, Eleanor is our child. We’ve owed her too much over these years. Her marriage isn’t happy either. I can’t just watch her continue to wander outside. She must return to the Hollis Family. In the future, I will slowly make it up to her."
Rachel’s hand slowly clenched, her palm already a bloody mess. She thought her years of brainwashing efforts had successfully made Nicholas forget about Eleanor, but he was actually considering bringing Eleanor back. This can’t be.
Right now, there was nothing she could do but think of a solution later.
When she got home, Rachel called Anna Hollis upstairs, her face filled with worry.
"Anna, your father plans to bring Eleanor back. What should we do? I’m a little panicked."
She didn’t like Eleanor, even loathed her. That child was a thorn in her heart.
"How can Dad do this?! Didn’t we abandon that bitch long ago?! Why would he even consider bringing her back?! Mom, we absolutely cannot let Eleanor return to the Hollis Family!"
Right now, she was the only young lady of the Hollis Family, and all the love and attention were hers alone.
If Eleanor came back, Dad’s and Grandpa’s energy would surely be divided towards her. This was absolutely unacceptable!
"Anna, don’t worry. I won’t let her set foot in the Hollis house. She’s coming back for dinner tomorrow night. I’ll think of a way then."
Rachel had initially panicked, but after thinking for a while, she calmed down.
She had managed to drive Eleanor away before, and she could do it again now.
That illegitimate child couldn’t outmatch her.
At night, Rachel went to see a doctor and got some harmful pills.
She also soaked in cold water overnight, so by the next day, she truly looked deathly pale.
She stayed in her room all day, enduring the discomfort, continuing to torture herself.
To prevent Eleanor from returning to the Hollis Family, she truly went to great lengths.
However, Eleanor didn’t know any of this for now. Just thinking that someone from the Hollis Family would be picking her up, she felt uneasy and couldn’t concentrate at work.
Even though she wished time would slow down, it inevitably reached the end of the workday.
As she stepped out of Grandeur’s main door, she saw the Hollis family’s butler waiting by the car.
As soon as he saw her, he respectfully opened the car door.
Eleanor paused for a moment before pursing her lips and getting into the car.
"Miss Hollis, everyone is waiting for you."
The butler instructed the driver to start the car, smiling. It wasn’t his first time seeing this young lady.
"Okay."
Eleanor responded blandly with no intention of engaging in conversation and stared out at the scenery.
Soon, the car stopped in front of the Hollis mansion, and the large iron gates slowly opened.
Eleanor looked at the understated luxury inside with no visible emotion.
The Hollis Family was very wealthy. She was too young when she left to remember what was inside.
Had this been her first time entering such a villa community as an adult, she would have been shocked.
But since she had visited Hugo Quinn’s villa, which was in the most expensive villa community, she wasn’t fazed by this sight.
The car finally stopped in front of the mansion, and Eleanor slowly got out, seeing Nicholas waiting outside.
At the sight of her, a smile appeared in Nicholas’s eyes.
"Eleanor, you’re here."
Eleanor didn’t speak, just nodded slightly and walked over slowly.
Nicholas didn’t mind, and instructed for the living room door to be opened.
Rachel and Anna Hollis were sitting on the sofa in the living room.
There was also Old Master Quinn, her grandfather in name.
Old Master Quinn’s eyes lit up when he saw her, and he patted the spot beside him.
"Eleanor, come over here. Let me take a look at you. You’ve grown so much, truly transforming into a young lady."
Probably because of Elder Quinn’s example, Eleanor had no favorable impression of these seemingly kind old folks.
But since this was her real grandfather, she said nothing and quietly walked over to sit down.
As soon as she sat down, Rachel let out a violent cough, her face turning deathly pale.
"Mom, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
