The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 19: On the Brink of Collapse
CHAPTER 19: CHAPTER 19: ON THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE
Eleanor Hollis was lowering her head to wipe her grandmother’s hand when she heard a knock on the hospital room door. A man came in and placed two food boxes on the table.
"Miss Hollis, here is dinner for you and the elderly lady. The gentleman asked me to prepare it."
It was the driver from the rainy night last time, Eleanor remembered him.
However, considering she was disheveled and swollen-faced from the rain last time, the driver didn’t immediately recognize her. He only knew she was Nathaniel Quinn’s wife.
"Thank you."
Since they kindly brought the food to the hospital room, she couldn’t refuse it out of politeness.
After the driver left, she realized she was actually a bit hungry. She opened one of the food boxes to take a look; it contained some liquid food, probably meant for her grandmother.
She opened another box and found fragrant white rice underneath. She couldn’t help but admire Hugo Quinn’s thoughtfulness in clearly separating her food from her grandmother’s.
Eleanor felt her eyes inexplicably a bit red. Her grandmother had been intermittently waking and sleeping over the years, and in the Quinton Family, she didn’t even have anyone to talk to, long ago filled with grievances. The sudden warmth left her a bit overwhelmed.
She picked up the chopsticks, lowered her head, and had just eaten two bites when she saw her grandmother awake.
She quickly put the food box down and walked to the elderly lady’s side, "Grandma, how are you feeling? The doctor said the kidney is already on the way, and you’ll soon have the surgery."
Bridget Sutton’s eyes gradually focused, finally landing on Eleanor Hollis’s face.
"Luna??"
Luna was Eleanor Hollis’s nickname; Eleanor and the English word moon sounded similar, so her grandparents had called her Luna since childhood.
"Why have you gotten thinner? Has my hospital room changed too? Have you run out of money?"
Bridget Sutton’s face turned pale; she knew she was already dragging down this granddaughter. Her son was useless and didn’t even come to see her. All these years, it was this granddaughter keeping watch over her.
"I divorced Nathaniel. Old Master Quinn gave me a large sum of money. I have money now, Grandma, just stay here with peace of mind. After the surgery, we’ll rent a house in Imperia, and I’ll work to support you."
Five million in a city like Imperia isn’t much. Maybe when Grandma’s health improves, there’ll only be about three hundred thousand left. At that time, we can rent a house and save the money, and the two of us won’t starve.
"You’ve worked hard."
Bridget Sutton said in a hoarse voice, slowly sighed.
Eleanor Hollis hurriedly handed the food box over, still steaming when opened, "Grandma, have some food. The doctor said you need to take good care of your body, or you won’t have the strength for the surgery."
"Okay."
Bridget Sutton took the food box, looked at her lovingly, and then slowly sipped a bit.
After finishing dinner, she fell into sleep again.
Eleanor Hollis stood up; people from the neighboring room had delivered dinner, she couldn’t just stay nestled in the hospital. She should at least go over and say thank you.
She left the hospital room, knocked on the door next to theirs, and when opened realized Hugo Quinn wasn’t there; instead, the child was on the hospital bed, hands bound with an IV drip, staring at her curiously.
"Young Quinn, where’s your dad?"
The little boy didn’t speak, with a plate of sliced fruit in front of him, each piece skewered with a toothpick.
It was clear Hugo Quinn took meticulous care of the child.
Eleanor Hollis thought about waiting for a moment, so she sat on the stool next to the little boy with a smile on her face.
