The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 24: Losing Temper
CHAPTER 24: CHAPTER 24: LOSING TEMPER
"Snap!"
Grace Lynch directly snatched the puzzle from his hand, leaving a red mark on Marcus’s hand due to the force.
"Stop playing with this! Are you intentionally trying to embarrass me?! Do you think I haven’t been humiliated enough over the years?"
These years, the Quinton Family believed Marcus’s autism needed her cooperation for treatment, so she was always pushed to be by this child’s side, becoming the hopeful treatment for his autism.
However, Marcus never appreciated her effort, not even acknowledging her, never speaking a word.
Making her position quite awkward.
Now that there were no outsiders, she didn’t have to pretend.
The driver was at the door; the door was closed. Plus, Grace was Marcus’s mother, so he didn’t think much about it.
Grace lowered her voice, her expression terrifying, her patience running out.
"Mr. Quinn."
The driver called out at the door. Grace was startled and quickly collected all her expressions, sitting down gently and continuing to peel the apple in her hand.
It was only when the man entered that she realized this Mr. Quinn was not the one she expected.
It was Nathaniel Quinn who came in, knowing Grace was here, he came along.
He had heard that Hugo Quinn’s company had some issues and wouldn’t be here for a while.
"Grace."
He called affectionately, holding some toys the child liked.
Upon hearing him call her by this name, Grace glanced at the door, afraid the driver would notice the anomaly between her and Nathaniel, so she cleared her throat.
"Go buy me a bottle of yogurt."
The driver, upon hearing her words, immediately went to do her bidding, as the words of the CEO’s wife were not to be ignored.
Nathaniel quickly closed the door of the ward, placed the toys aside, and then embraced Grace.
"Grace, have you thought about what I asked you last time? You’ve been ignoring me these past few days."
Grace wanted to say the child was still present, but then thought about what this autistic child would understand, and even if he did, he wouldn’t say anything.
So she softened her body, leaning into Nathaniel’s embrace.
"Divorce is very troublesome, and marrying you afterward would be even more troublesome. Nathaniel, I am your uncle’s wife. Even if I divorced him, the Quinton Family would never agree to me marrying you."
Nathaniel himself had thought of this point, but he didn’t want to care about these things anymore; he just wanted to be with this person.
"Grace, when the time comes, we can find a place without anyone else. As long as you are with me, I can disregard everything else."
But I care.
Grace thought to herself, though her face remained gentle.
She is now the wife of the CEO of Grandeur Group, the rightful Mrs. Quinton, the daughter-in-law appointed by Grandpa Quinn.
No matter where she goes, those wanting to connect with the Quinton Family will be flattering her.
Her husband is the most outstanding heir of the Quinton Family and has independently established a Fortune 500 company like Grandeur Group.
But what does Nathaniel have? Besides his deep affection, he has nothing that compares to Hugo Quinn.
Unless she was blind, she would never divorce.
Grace sighed a little. Although being Mrs. Quinn was great, Hugo was far too cold, like an icy solid rock that could never be warmed, not giving her the feeling of being cherished.
And though Nathaniel didn’t match Hugo in other areas, he was very good at being considerate, always coaxing her.
If only the two could swap personalities, then she wouldn’t need to seek warmth from Nathaniel.
"Nathaniel, can you wait a little longer, please don’t push me."
Grace’s face was filled with pain as she pretended to push him away.
Nathaniel realized he had indeed pushed this person too hard, so he quickly released his hands.
"Grace, when Uncle and I accidentally fell into the water as children, it was you who saved us. From then on, I liked you, have liked you all these years, and no one in this world will love you more than I do."
When he was floundering in the water, he thought the girl who jumped in from the shore was as beautiful as an angel, then he felt a force lifting him up.
Her hair gently wrapped around his neck, and every scene was so wonderful. From that moment, he vowed to marry this girl.
Grace’s hand tightened a bit; because of that incident, the Elder Quinn had decided on the spot to allow both her and Eleanor Hollis to marry into the Quinton Family because she had done them a favor.
But in truth, it wasn’t her who saved them; when she reached the riverbank, both were already ashore.
Knowing they were young masters of the Quinton Family, she had rushed over to show concern, immediately noticing the strikingly handsome Hugo Quinn.
"Was it you who saved us?"
In the face of that handsome boy’s question, her heart trembled, eventually nodding slowly.
Because of this connection, after Hugo married her, even without love, he never made things difficult for her.
Now she somewhat doubted if it was Eleanor Hollis who saved the two back then.
Because Eleanor had coincidentally been hospitalized those days, overhearing her grandmother say it was due to nearly drowning, though the Quinton Family had no knowledge of this.
"Grace, my life belongs to you."
Nathaniel said blissfully, gripping her hand tighter.
Footsteps sounded from outside; the driver was probably back. Grace quickly distanced herself from Nathaniel, not intending to continue the conversation.
Nathaniel felt somewhat disappointed, but he had experienced too many disappointing days over the years; he had learned to wait.
He stayed for a while before leaving, afraid of bumping into Hugo.
Although he disliked admitting it, standing side by side with Hugo always made him feel inferior.
Grace continued sitting by the bedside, feeling increasingly uneasy inside.
If the Quinton Family found out it was Eleanor Hollis who had saved them, then Eleanor Hollis, as an uncertain factor, would be too dangerous, posing a constant threat to her position.
Grace’s hand tightened again; she quickly needed her grandmother to complete her surgery, then send her away to ensure Eleanor Hollis wouldn’t ruin her current life!
That year, Nathaniel and Hugo accompanied the Elder Quinn to the countryside to visit a friend, who was Eleanor Hollis’s grandfather.
Nathaniel accidentally fell into the river, and Hugo went to save him, but Nathaniel clung tightly to his neck, nearly drowning them both.
In the minds of the Quinton Family, it was all thanks to Grace for saving them ashore, saying she was exceptionally talented for her age. Coupled with the events that followed, the family was indebted and grateful, thus promptly marrying both into their family.
However, Grace’s treatment in the Quinton Family was completely different from Eleanor’s; she married the most resourceful person in the family. Also, because of the child and the life-saving grace, Hugo didn’t treat her poorly.
Everything necessary was well-prepared, and she indeed lived the life of a wealthy lady.
But Eleanor, due to her child not surviving, became depressed for years, coupled with the exclusion by her mother-in-law and husband, living almost in a crevice.
