CHAPTER 29: CHAPTER 29: ON THE VERGE OF COLLAPSE

Grace Lynch was nearly losing her composure. After all these years, this man remained the same. No matter how much she tried to please him, there was no reaction from him at all.

Sometimes she even wondered if it was because she wasn’t attractive enough.

But whenever she stood in front of Nathaniel Quinn, she could see the burning desire in his eyes, which greatly satisfied the self-esteem that had been shattered by Hugo Quinn.

"Hugo, I’ll come by again tomorrow morning."

She said stiffly, glancing upstairs and tightly clutching the bag in her palm.

Hugo Quinn didn’t reply at all, as if he hadn’t heard her speak.

He glanced at the spot on himself that Grace Lynch had touched, inexplicably feeling a bit uncomfortable.

So after she left, he immediately went upstairs to take a shower.

As the warm water cascaded over his body, his mind wandered to that night many years ago.

Clearly, that person was Grace Lynch, but now, facing her, he felt nothing at all.

Hugo stepped out casually wrapped in a towel, grabbed a cloth, and began drying his hair.

He remembered that his computer was still in the study room, so he draped the towel over his head and headed toward the study.

"Marcus, that’s not how you spell that word."

A gentle voice came from Marcus’s room, and through the gap in the door, Hugo saw Eleanor Hollis with her back to him, teaching the child English words.

Although she had given birth, her figure was perfect.

Under the light, she appeared even more exquisite and alluring.

He inexplicably felt his face heat up and quietly closed the door.

Returning to the bedroom with the computer, he glanced down at his towel and noticed an embarrassing reaction there.

It was just a glance.

He couldn’t understand what was happening, how just seeing her made him lose the desire to work on any files.

After leaving the villa, Grace Lynch gave a gentle smile to the driver, "Please, take me back."

The driver nodded respectfully and opened the car door for her.

Sparks flickered in Grace’s eyes. Only God knew how hard she had tried not to lose her mind.

Thinking of Eleanor Hollis currently in Hugo Quinn’s villa set her heart ablaze, hurting unbearably.

She loved Hugo Quinn. Back at the riverside, she had instantly set her sights on that man, believing that he was what her future husband should be like.

That’s why later, she prepared everything, just to marry him.

But that night almost ruined all her plans by a twist of fate.

Thankfully, before the Quinton Family arrived, she managed to turn things around, successfully marrying the man she had chosen.

Tightly clutching her bag, Grace thought of Stella Lynch and Liam Lynch, who had been recently jailed, and her lips curved slightly. Maybe those two could make Eleanor Hollis move out.

"Take me to the police station, I need to see someone."

She told the driver, who nodded slowly and turned the car towards the police station.

She knew about Stella Lynch and Liam Lynch’s issues, thanks to the call from Joelle Quinn, saying that Stella and Liam had caused trouble at their house and were arrested by the police.

The car stopped at the police station entrance, and she entered, clutching her handbag.

Stella Lynch and Liam Lynch had been full of regret these past days, realizing they shouldn’t have listened to Eleanor Hollis and caused trouble for the Quinton Family.

"You two, someone’s here to see you."

The police officer said from outside, and Stella and Liam were quickly brought out. Seeing Grace sitting on the bench, they were so excited they almost pounced on her.

Grace looked at the ragged duo and moved back slightly, afraid the stench of poverty would cling to her.

Back when she grew up in the countryside, she always told herself she wouldn’t live like the rural people; they looked too coarse, not the life she wanted.

She wanted a life as good as the heiresses on TV, with countless dresses and skincare products, and a beautiful big house.

Until she met Hugo Quinn and Nathaniel Quinn by the riverbank, she knew her opportunity had come.

She worked hard at her standard Mandarin, not wanting to carry a country accent outside. She even learned dance from TV, hoping to make her body appear more graceful. She did too much for the Quinn marriage to let Eleanor ruin it.

"Auntie, who is Joelle Quinn? Why didn’t you find out before hitting anyone?"

At that moment, Stella Lynch became somewhat afraid, accurately saying she had been scared since she truly entered the prison.

Grace Lynch was full of anguish and finally sighed.

"Who told you guys to go to the Quinton Family; that person was really up to no good, knowing how powerful they are yet letting you in to cause trouble!"

As soon as she finished speaking, Stella and Liam started cursing furiously.

"It was that little bitch Eleanor Hollis! We heard she got five million from the old master of the Quinton Family. We’ve been taking care of her all these years, just wanted a share, but not only did she refuse, she coaxed us to go to the Quinton Family. When I get out, I’ll surely settle accounts with her!"

That’s exactly the result Grace wanted. As long as those two harbored hatred toward Eleanor, they’d definitely cause trouble for her once released.

"Uncle, Auntie, I’m here tonight to bail you out."

When Stella and Liam heard about being bailed out, they were ecstatic, only cursing Eleanor more fiercely.

Grace paid the bail, noticing their greedy eyes fixed on her purse, filled with disdain.

These country folks just couldn’t handle the sight of opulence, easily dazzled by fleeting grandeur.

"Uncle, Auntie, you’ve indeed been kind to Eleanor over the years; logically speaking, Eleanor shouldn’t be so stingy as to not spare a single penny."

"Humph! That bitch said she donated all the money! Then she gave us Joelle and Nathaniel’s phone numbers. You know, my daughter is almost of age now; she can marry Nathaniel."

Stella Lynch said, delusionally, full of rightful conviction.

Grace almost laughed out loud. The thought of Jane Warren, that dark-skinned little girl who barely knew a few words, being noticed by Nathaniel was absurd.

A country girl like that wasn’t even fit to carry Nathaniel’s shoes.

"I think you fell for Eleanor’s trick. She didn’t donate her money; she’s bought quite a lot of fine things these days. Don’t be so stupid next time."

Stella and Liam, of limited intellect already, instantly resumed their furious cursing upon Grace’s words.

"Here’s thirty thousand, take it first. Serenford is expensive, and it looks like you’re out of money."

Grace took out thirty thousand in cash from her purse and placed it in front of Stella and Liam.

Their gaze was greedy, like starving dogs eyeing a piece of fat meat.

"You’d better head back soon. If Eleanor finds out you’re out, she’ll likely give you more trouble."
