Chapter 323: The Vegetative Patient Awakens
CHAPTER 323: CHAPTER 323: THE VEGETATIVE PATIENT AWAKENS
In recent years, Dad Sullivan and Mom Sullivan have been so worried about him that they couldn’t eat, it was as if they had aged ten years. Now hearing their son say this, how could they bear it? They immediately burst into tears.
"Chelsea, you’re finally awake, that’s wonderful!"
Chelsea Sullivan’s eyes darted around, not finding Samantha Sullivan.
"Where’s Samantha?"
Dad Sullivan and Mom Sullivan’s faces stiffened, how could they forget? When Chelsea was conscious, she liked Samantha the most. Back then, she even thought Samantha would marry him one day. After all, they all knew that Samantha wasn’t the Sullivan family’s daughter.
"Why do you care about her? She’s with the person who hit you and hasn’t come to see you once in these years."
Chelsea’s brow furrowed, his sister wasn’t like that. Besides, although he was in a coma, he was sometimes conscious. He could hear his sister’s voice, so Mom must be lying.
"I know Samantha’s character better than you do. Please call Samantha over, I want to see how she’s doing."
Dad and Mom Sullivan had never been very concerned about Samantha, it had been that way since she was little. Samantha grew up right under his nose, and his relationship with Samantha was slightly better.
Even though he knew from a young age that Samantha wasn’t his parents’ biological daughter, back when his dad was attacked, it was Samantha’s dad who saved him. Samantha’s dad didn’t avoid the attack and died.
Later, the woman died from massive bleeding during childbirth, and newly-born Samantha became an orphan with no one to care for her. Out of gratitude for the past, his parents took the child into their home to raise her. This was the Sullivan family’s secret, only Samantha never knew about it.
"Dad, Samantha’s family died to save you, that’s a huge debt of gratitude. You can’t keep neglecting Samantha, I know better than you how you’ve treated her all these years."
Chelsea’s face was somber. Seeing Samantha wasn’t there, he knew something might have happened but wasn’t clear on the details.
Dad and Mom Sullivan looked a bit embarrassed. If Samantha’s dad hadn’t saved Dad Sullivan back then, they wouldn’t have raised someone else’s daughter. Samantha never had to worry about food or clothing, and in their view, the debt had long been repaid.
"Chelsea, we didn’t lie to you. After Evan hit you, he wasn’t punished by the court, and your sister even fell in love with him. Your dad and I couldn’t bear it, so we cut ties with her."
Chelsea’s heart trembled, still a bit doubtful, but now didn’t want to dwell on this. He needed to recover quickly and go ask his sister what really happened.
Chelsea recovered very quickly. On the first day he took a few steps on the ground, he was already accustomed to the feeling. Over the next week, he walked around the hospital supporting himself on the walls, and finally, he could be discharged.
However, Dad and Mom Sullivan weren’t as happy as they initially were because all their son cared about was Samantha, not giving them any regard.
On his first day recovered, Chelsea wanted to find Samantha, but Dad and Mom Sullivan stopped him, using various excuses to delay the days.
But eventually, they couldn’t delay it any longer.
However, when he called Samantha, no one answered, so he had to call Gloria Galloway and Eleanor Hollis.
He always knew Samantha had two friends, just not if they had changed their numbers.
Gloria Galloway was with Eleanor Hollis at that moment. Since Samantha’s incident, the two had been meeting more frequently, always thinking about how to help Samantha recover quickly.
When she received this call, she thought she was dreaming because the other person claimed to be Chelsea Sullivan. Wasn’t Chelsea Samantha’s brother?
Hadn’t he turned into a vegetable? How could he be awake?
"Gloria Galloway, do you remember me? I’m Samantha’s brother, Chelsea Sullivan. Something happened to me these past years, and I’ve been lying in the hospital. Now I want to see Samantha, but her phone isn’t picking up. Do you know how she’s doing?"
Gloria and Eleanor exchanged a glance, thinking about how the Sullivan family treated Samantha made them a bit indignant, but they also knew Chelsea was innocent, having just woken up and knowing nothing.
"You want to know how Samantha is? Alright, come out and meet us. We’ll tell you what happened to her."
Chelsea didn’t suspect anything and immediately went to the agreed location, surprised that both Gloria and Eleanor were there. Having not seen them in years, they both looked a bit more mature.
He sat down slowly, not knowing what to say, just nervously clenching his hands.
Eleanor observed his expression and saw that he seemed genuinely worried about Samantha, and sighed.
"Do you know who hit you back then?"
Chelsea’s body stiffened. How could he not know? That person wanted revenge for his sister.
His eyes flickered; that incident was a shadow in his heart. He had drunk a bit too much that night, but thought nothing would happen. After hitting that girl, he was stunned. He got out of the car and immediately called 911, but the girl still passed away.
How old was that girl? Around seventeen or eighteen, just at the most beautiful age, but because of his mistake, her life ended there.
He felt guilty and remorseful and immediately contacted her family, hoping to compensate for the loss.
He offered a large sum, knowing he had wronged them, so he added even more, hoping to cleanse his guilt.
He thought that would be the end of it, and after that incident, he rarely drove, fearing more accidents.
But it wasn’t until the girl’s brother came looking for him that he realized how much anguish he caused their family. When he fainted, he even felt a sense of relief. If money couldn’t quell their anger, then let it be with his life.
"I know it’s Evan, the girl’s brother. I don’t blame him; all of this is what I deserve."
Eleanor sighed in relief; finally, there was someone sensible in the Sullivan family.
"Evan was Samantha’s boyfriend at that time. Upon learning he hit you, although Samantha loved him deeply, she still broke up with him. Evan was also in great pain, and during your coma, they both tormented each other. In the past couple of months, Samantha finally let go of her grudge and got back together with him. She even made a special effort to apologize to you, feeling guilty for her brother."
Chelsea’s eyes flickered, then he quickly lowered his head. So Samantha had someone she liked; he never knew. He always thought Samantha liked him the most...
"I don’t blame her. It was me who wronged Evan. When I was knocked down, I thought about using my life to atone, but I didn’t expect I’d wake up again."
