The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 329: His Ex-Girlfriend
CHAPTER 329: CHAPTER 329: HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND
Many thoughts emerged in Eleanor Hollis’s mind, but she chose not to question him; she believed in Hugo Quinn.
An hour later, the girl had already woken up.
She opened her eyes tremblingly, then propped herself up and sat up.
"It’s you... "
Seeing Hugo Quinn, she didn’t seem surprised, just said this lightly and then stopped looking at him.
Hugo Quinn frowned, "Have you had a hard time these years?"
The girl looked somewhat haggard, but she still had an extraordinary temperament.
"What do you think?"
She was smiling, but there was a self-mocking taste in that smile.
Hugo Quinn felt more puzzled. Previously, he had asked Lan Yancy to send money to this girl. The girl hailed from an ordinary family, and a million should have been enough for all her tuition and fees. This should be her second year after graduation, and logically, she should have a decent job. Why did she look so haggard?
"Hugo Quinn, I don’t regret knowing you at all, but the price of knowing you is too heavy. I was forced to go abroad, my father missed me and got depressed, and he passed away early. My mom is not in good health now either and has stomach cancer. The doctors say there is nothing in modern medicine that can cure stomach cancer; it’s just extending her life with no certainty of when it will end."
When the girl spoke about these things, she was very calm.
Eleanor Hollis was listening in a fog, it seemed the relationship between the two was not ordinary indeed.
The doctor came in at this time, saying the girl’s body was severely depleted.
"You’re only twenty-three, and if you keep going like this, your body won’t be able to take it. You need to take better care of yourself."
After giving the instructions, the doctor prescribed some medications.
When the infusion bottle finished, the girl took out the needle from the back of her hand and got up to leave the hospital.
"Meredith!"
Hugo Quinn held her down, not letting her move recklessly.
"Let go of me!!"
Meredith Sterling was very agitated and scratched several marks on Hugo Quinn’s hand.
Eleanor Hollis felt like an outsider at this moment. There must have been something between Hugo and this woman; otherwise, he wouldn’t be so concerned about her affairs.
"Come back to Serenford with me."
Hugo Quinn’s tone was forceful, then he looked over at Eleanor Hollis.
"Eleanor, I’ll explain to you later."
Eleanor Hollis said nothing, hearing Hugo call a doctor in to give Meredith Sterling a sedative.
In no time, Meredith Sterling was asleep, and Hugo Quinn had Lan Yancy place her in the car, then the group planned to head back to Imperia.
Sitting in the car, Eleanor Hollis kept staring blankly at the sky outside.
"Eleanor."
Hugo Quinn suddenly hugged her from behind, nuzzling his chin affectionately against her head.
"Everything Meredith Sterling went through is because of me."
He sighed, then recounted what had happened between them.
It turned out that before Grace Lynch, Hugo Quinn had a girlfriend, but that was a long time ago. Around his freshman year, Meredith Sterling had been by his side.
But he didn’t like Meredith Sterling. She had blocked a knife for him and was hospitalized for more than half a month. If it weren’t for that stab, he might have died; he was severely injured and had already lost too much blood at that time.
Upon waking up, he wanted to repay Meredith Sterling, but she asked for nothing, just wanted to stay by his side as his girlfriend.
"You don’t have to like me. You’ve seen that many girls in the class bully me. If you’re my boyfriend, they won’t bully me because of your status, although I don’t know what your exact status is, everyone seems quite wary of you."
The girl had made her statement clear, coupled with the fact she had saved his life, Hugo Quinn agreed.
From then on, Meredith Sterling became his little follower.
Hugo Quinn was always very aloof in class; many girls secretly loved him, but no one ever succeeded in confessing.
Meredith Sterling was just a girl with a little bit of appearance, coming from a family of employees, how did she win Hugo Quinn’s favor?
The entire grade discussed this matter at that time, but no one dared to ask Hugo Quinn directly.
Hugo Quinn was a man of strong responsibility, and even though his relationship with Meredith Sterling was in name only, he cared for her to the greatest extent possible.
Meredith Sterling became very popular at school, just like she said, some girls who bullied her daily ceased their actions once they knew she was Hugo Quinn’s girlfriend.
However, the beautiful love story of a prince and a Cinderella generally only exists in fairy tales.
Because Claire Shaw whispered in Old Master Quinn’s ear, leading him to believe that Meredith Sterling was a woman with ulterior motives, using Hugo Quinn to elevate her status. Therefore, he took strong measures and sent Meredith Sterling abroad, even exerting pressure on her family.
However, Hugo Quinn didn’t know that it was Old Master Quinn who forced her to leave the country then. He only knew Meredith Sterling was going abroad; before she left, hesitant to say anything, he gave her a check, hoping to ensure her well-being overseas.
Then when they met again today, he realized that she had been suffering all along.
All her unfortunate encounters were because of him.
Hugo Quinn, although cold, couldn’t help but feel soft seeing the girl who saved his life turn out like this.
After hearing him finish, Eleanor Hollis understood his actions, yet there was a heavy stone in her chest, leaving her a bit uncomfortable.
Returning to Serenford, Hugo Quinn arranged for a doctor to examine Meredith Sterling, still diagnosing bodily depletion.
Meredith Sterling had woken up, sitting silently on the sofa, with deep wounds on her wrists and many needle marks.
Those scars and needle marks made Eleanor Hollis’s scalp tingle; it seemed this girl was indeed very unfortunate.
She sat down beside her and thought the other might be thirsty, so she spoke up.
"Would you like some water? I’ll get it for you."
Meredith Sterling looked up at her and suddenly started crying, a heart-wrenching cry.
Hugo Quinn happened to walk over from the staircase, seeing the confrontation between the two, and noticing Meredith Sterling crying, instinctively glanced at Eleanor Hollis.
Eleanor Hollis wanted to explain but didn’t know what to say, especially since Meredith Sterling was crying so painfully that her body was convulsing. If one didn’t know better, they’d really think she’d just said something hurtful.
Eleanor Hollis’s face didn’t look very good, she sat down sullenly to the side.
Luckily, Hugo Quinn didn’t go to comfort Meredith Sterling; instead, he came over to her and held her in his arms.
"I just know you’re not feeling well. Eleanor, I will arrange a place for her to stay as soon as possible, I absolutely won’t handle it personally, just calm down."
Bringing her home was indeed inappropriate, after all, he and Eleanor Hollis were already married, Hugo Quinn was clear on that point.
But due to the past life-saving grace and Meredith Sterling’s unfortunate experiences, he couldn’t just leave her here unattended.
