The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 331: Repeated Troublemaking
CHAPTER 331: CHAPTER 331: REPEATED TROUBLEMAKING
He originally thought that their connection was only because of a life-saving favor, and he assumed that Meredith Sterling stayed with him just to avoid being bullied again.
He truly didn’t expect that Meredith Sterling genuinely liked him and had remained chaste for him all these years.
For Hugo Quinn, it was impossible not to be moved; perhaps any man facing such a situation would feel some emotion.
"Hand him over to the police."
Hugo Quinn said to Lan Yancy, instructing someone to help Meredith Sterling up.
Meredith Sterling kept crying, her face red and swollen, shaking her head frantically at Hugo Quinn.
"I was delusional. Back then, when you let me stay by your side, I thought you genuinely liked me. That’s why I had a sliver of hope in my heart. The money you gave me, I didn’t use it; instead, I donated it to the welfare home. Hugo Quinn, I’m sorry. If I had known earlier that you didn’t like me, I wouldn’t have held on for so long and made things difficult for you now."
Eleanor Hollis stood quietly watching this scene. If it weren’t for the wrong timing, she really wanted to applaud Meredith Sterling. Her tactics were truly brilliant, perfectly hitting all the points in a man’s heart.
Hugo Quinn didn’t speak but had someone find her another place to stay, hoping the doctors could quickly cure her physical ailments.
However, the doctors kept calling, sometimes even in the middle of the night, saying that Meredith Sterling’s condition was very bad.
At three in the morning, when the phone rang again, Eleanor Hollis finally couldn’t hold back.
"If she’s looking to kill herself, just ignore it. My husband and I need rest; from now on, there’s no need to inform us about her news."
The doctor seemed to sense her anger, hurriedly said a few words, and then hung up the phone quickly.
Feeling stifled for so long, Eleanor Hollis felt as if a fire was burning inside her, making her extremely uncomfortable.
She kicked Hugo Quinn once and still unsatisfied, followed with a second kick.
"Eleanor?"
Hugo Quinn woke up, feeling a sharp pain in his leg.
Eleanor Hollis’s face was very dark. That Meredith Sterling had been causing a scene in the hospital, threatening to jump off a building, with doctors calling every few hours as if they had become Meredith Sterling’s guardians!
"If you want to go see that woman, don’t hide it. Just get out now and let me get some sleep."
Hugo Quinn, confused and fuzzy-headed, was shoved with a pillow and pushed out of the bedroom door. Eleanor Hollis also placed the phone in his hand.
"The hospital just called. Meredith Sterling is threatening to jump again. Go have a look."
Hugo Quinn stood outside the door, a trace of impatience flashing through his mind. He took in Meredith Sterling only out of sympathy, and indeed, her misfortunes were because of him. That’s why he kept her, hoping the doctors would take good care of her health.
But that didn’t mean this woman could disrupt his life.
He got dressed, glanced at the time on his wrist; it was already four in the morning. She really knew how to stir things up.
He immediately drove to the hospital, yet just as his car started, Eleanor Hollis walked to the window, watching as his car slowly drove away.
Her throat seemed blocked; she didn’t know how to respond. Hugo Quinn really went to the hospital to see that woman, and it made her feel sick to her stomach, like swallowing a fly.
However, she couldn’t act like that woman, causing a scene with tears and tantrums.
She sat on the bed, carefully thinking about the whole situation, suddenly realizing that Meredith Sterling really had the best conditions.
The Quinton Family caused her father to suffer from depression, her mother to fall critically ill, and forced her to marry an abusive man. All because she was once with Hugo Quinn.
If she were Hugo Quinn, she too would have pity for such a woman.
Hugo Quinn had always been indifferent to everything; to make him feel even a shred of compassion and take the initiative to help, Meredith Sterling had already been very successful.
Eleanor Hollis, though jealous, knew that Hugo Quinn had done his best. At least he always had others handle Meredith Sterling’s affairs, and he never met the other woman privately, reporting everything to Eleanor.
But Eleanor Hollis still felt uneasy, discovering now that the other party went to the hospital in the dead of night made her hands slowly clench.
Yet she understood, if she caused a scene with Hugo Quinn over this, it would only make their relationship more strained.
All of Meredith Sterling’s misfortunes were because of Hugo Quinn, and it was only right for Hugo Quinn to compensate her. Even if others heard about this, they’d probably side with Meredith Sterling, because people always sympathize with the weak.
Eleanor Hollis pondered in bed for a long time before finally calling Hugo Quinn to see if he would lie.
"Are you sleeping with Marcus?"
Her voice was calm, as if she wasn’t aware that he had already gone out.
"No, didn’t you say Meredith Sterling was causing a fuss? I’m going to the hospital to take a look and instruct the doctor clearly, then I’ll come back. Just like you said, we can’t let her disturb our sleep. Honey, you rest first, I’ll be back soon."
That "honey" immediately pleased Eleanor Hollis. She knew she was overthinking. Apart from a bit of guilt, Hugo Quinn had nothing left for that woman.
Her lips curled slightly into a smile, and she turned over.
"But you cannot say more than ten words to her, darling. Although she deserves sympathy, all of this is because of Old Master Quinn. You too have been kept in the dark. Helping her is a gesture of goodwill, but I don’t want someone to push their luck trying to rekindle old flames with you."
Hugo Quinn quickly pulled over, frowning.
"I’ve never truly thought about it. Eleanor, if you’re worried about this, I’ll come back right now."
Saying this, he was ready to turn the steering wheel, planning not to go to the hospital.
"No, you better have a look. If this gets out, it wouldn’t be good for you. People will say you are ungrateful, though I know you don’t care about such things, I don’t want you to be spoken about that way."
Eleanor Hollis’s voice was calm, and indeed, if this matter were exposed, people would only criticize Hugo Quinn and her, saying they were indifferent. Even Old Master Quinn would probably be gossiped about.
The situation would be extremely unfavorable for them.
"I understand. Then rest well, don’t overthink."
Hugo Quinn hung up the phone, a profound look flashing in his eyes, as he continued to step on the gas, heading to the hospital.
Eleanor Hollis threw the phone aside, knowing Hugo Quinn’s nature, he definitely wouldn’t fool around outside, so she felt at ease under the covers.
If Meredith Sterling continued her self-destructive path, it would only make Hugo Quinn’s slight guilt gradually disappear. She didn’t need to do anything; this battle would be hers to win.
Eleanor Hollis’s eyes glimmered with amusement. Being by Hugo Quinn’s side for so long, she had mastered these tactics, otherwise, how could she have defeated the previous rivals in love?
Hugo Quinn had already arrived at the hospital, and from afar he could hear Meredith Sterling’s heartrending cries, while the doctor beside her patiently persuaded her.
