The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 364: He Definitely Doesn’t Want to See Me
CHAPTER 364: CHAPTER 364: HE DEFINITELY DOESN’T WANT TO SEE ME
"Honey, stop it, I’m so tired, let me sleep."
Her voice was filled with a playful coquettishness, as if nothing had happened between them.
Usually after waking up, Hugo Quinn would tease her like this, brushing her nose with her hair, and then he would hear her softly say, "Honey, stop."
As long as she said those four words, he would always stop, feeling an unparalleled satisfaction inside.
Hugo’s eyes instantly softened; in truth, when he saw Xavier Crawford’s message, he began to have suspicions.
Xavier does have the personality to send such a message, but afterward, when he tried to call Xavier, he never picked up, almost as if he had been blocked.
Why would Xavier block him?
Although their relationship wasn’t necessarily good, they had at least gone through thick and thin together, and Xavier was a loyal person. Last time, when he asked for help, Xavier came to assist right away, so there’s no reason Xavier would block him.
Looking down at Eleanor Hollis’s face, Hugo felt like she was hiding something from him.
So he threw out that fake divorce agreement, thinking if she really had secrets, seeing the divorce agreement would certainly make her panic; at the very least, she should come and discuss it or, in a fit of anger, reveal the truth.
But Eleanor didn’t. She accepted that truth in a deadpan way, as if she had already lost hope.
Does Eleanor not love him?
Hugo doesn’t think so.
Eleanor is probably the woman who loves him the most, whether he is poor or wealthy, she would love him no matter what.
He slowly closed his eyes, and because she was in his arms, he fell asleep quickly at ease.
He woke up at nine in the evening, but he didn’t open his eyes, because he felt Eleanor was awake too.
Eleanor opened her eyes and realized someone was holding her, her whole body tensed up, but feeling that familiar embrace, she gradually relaxed, unwilling to get up, as if as long as she kept pretending to be asleep, they could stay like this forever.
But Marcus was still waiting for her. After seeing Hugo, she had to go back.
Eleanor slowly got up, not knowing why she ended up in his hospital bed — was she sleepwalking?
Hugo hadn’t woken up, so he wouldn’t have carried her over; besides, even if he did wake up, he probably wouldn’t want to hold her.
Thinking about this, she blinked her eyes in disappointment, slowly got up, took one last careful look at his face, and then bent down to leave a kiss.
As she walked out of the hospital room, Lan Yancy was still waiting outside.
"Has he woken up?"
Eleanor still asked the question that mattered to her. If Hugo carried her over, does that mean he has forgiven her?
Lan Yancy shook his head. "The CEO’s stomach ailment is quite severe; he probably won’t wake up until the middle of the night. Miss Hollis, if you have time, you can bring him some food. Don’t worry, I won’t let the CEO know."
Eleanor’s eyes flickered with a bit of light, looking gratefully at Lan Yancy.
"Thank you, I will bring him some."
Lan Yancy sheepishly rubbed his head. This was all arranged by the CEO; he wanted to eat the dishes Miss Hollis made but didn’t know how to ask, so he could only have him relay it.
When he returned to the bedside, Hugo indeed was awake, quietly reading a book.
His complexion was paler than usual, yet still retained a gentleman-like charm.
When Eleanor left, she walked with a light step, and even after returning home, she still felt somewhat joyful.
"Mommy."
Marcus had been in the apartment alone for quite a while; seeing her come, he quickly ran to grab her coat.
"Mommy, did you eat? I see it’s snowing outside again, I’m worried you’ll catch a cold. Maybe next time you shouldn’t go out."
Uncle Lan Yancy said that mommy’s health hasn’t been great lately and she has to be careful.
Eleanor felt warmth in her heart and reached out to softly rub his head.
"It’s alright, your daddy is sick, I went to see him."
A hint of anxiety appeared on Marcus’s face; he had no idea his daddy was sick.
"Is it serious? I want to see him."
"It’s already late now, let’s go tomorrow. We can go together tomorrow."
Eleanor felt somewhat uplifted; it was the best she had felt in days.
As she lay in bed, she reminisced about Hugo’s embrace from earlier, a smile forming on her lips.
She touched her stomach, thinking of the child she hadn’t met, her smile gradually faded away.
This was the second child she had lost; if it continued this way, would she ever successfully become pregnant?
Doctors had already told her that her health was not good and that it would be very difficult to conceive, yet still, neither of those children survived.
Eleanor turned over several times, finally sighing as she took a pillow out from the packed suitcase.
It was the one thing she had taken from Hugo’s villa; everything else she had left behind, but she took this with her.
She placed the pillow under her head, and somehow the gloom in her heart dissipated a little, as if that person were still by her side.
The next day, she got up early to cook porridge, then packaged it in an insulated container and headed to the hospital to visit Hugo.
With Lan Yancy keeping watch, she knew exactly when Hugo would be awake and when he would be asleep, perfectly avoiding the times when he was conscious.
Yet Hugo was aware of it all.
Eleanor sat beside him, holding his hand and speaking softly, and when she sensed he was about to wake, she quietly got up and left the room.
At that moment, Lan Yancy would enter, take the porridge, and serve it to Hugo.
Hugo, slowly drinking the porridge, noticed a figure in the door with his sharp eyes; was that fool planning on waiting outside the whole time?
She had just miscarried, her health was poor, and the wind in the hallway was strong — what if she caught a cold?
"Lan Yancy."
After a few sips he spoke, lowering his gaze.
"Let her in."
Lan Yancy was a bit excited; the CEO was finally willing to see Miss Hollis!
He immediately went out and saw Eleanor still peeking inside quietly, sighing softly.
"Miss Hollis, the CEO knows you’re here and wants you to go in."
Eleanor’s body suddenly froze. She hid so well, how did Hugo know?
She took a few steps back, a sudden trace of panic appearing on her face. If Hugo knew she was there, would he say more hurtful things or point at her nose and tell her to leave?
She dared not go in.
Eleanor turned around and ran into the elevator without a moment’s hesitation, closing the door.
She didn’t want to hear Hugo’s doubts and hurtful words, so she chose to escape, anywhere but here.
Out of breath, Eleanor arrived downstairs; maybe because she was in a daze, everything seemed strange to her. Though this was a hospital, she felt dizzy.
"Miss Hollis!"
Lan Yancy caught up to her from behind, seeing her body swaying, he was startled and rushed to support her.
"I don’t want to see him; he probably doesn’t want to see me either."
