The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 368: Celebrating the New Year in the Countryside
CHAPTER 368: CHAPTER 368: CELEBRATING THE NEW YEAR IN THE COUNTRYSIDE
When he stepped on the brakes, he felt something was wrong, and recently his mother had been very uneasy, always making him feel like she was hiding something from him.
Rachel Lynch pressed her lips slowly. She wasn’t sure if this had anything to do with Eleanor Hollis. She had caused Eleanor to lose a child, so Eleanor must hate her deeply.
But this matter, no matter how you say it, couldn’t be blamed on her son. If Eleanor were to take revenge on the child, it would indeed be excessive.
Rachel felt a bit unjust, but thinking about what she had done to her, she didn’t dare to find her and could only make a phone call.
However, a cold female voice indicated that she had been blocked, apparently planning to never associate with her again.
Rachel felt very uncomfortable inside, but she knew it was what she deserved, leaving her son to suffer, unable to walk normally for five years.
"Mom, did you do something over the top?"
The boy saw Rachel in a daze and couldn’t help but ask.
Moreover, his instinct told him this matter was related to Eleanor Hollis. His mother had always been a very calm person and had never been as restless as she had been lately. Only matters concerning Eleanor would make her this way.
"This matter is in the past; don’t worry about it. It’s not your concern."
Rachel didn’t dare reveal the truth; she hadn’t even told her husband, fearing they’d look at her with strange eyes.
The atmosphere in the ward was heavy. The boy roughly determined his thoughts and didn’t delve deeper, only hoping what his mom did wouldn’t cast a shadow over Eleanor.
Eleanor Hollis, this time, had broken her own principles. She never used to hurt innocent people, but she lost a child, and if Rachel could be ruthless, she should taste the consequences.
The person Rachel cared most about was that son of hers, and Eleanor wanted her to taste the loss of a child.
But when instructing Lan Yancy, she ultimately couldn’t bear to go too far, only injuring him enough to possibly need a wheelchair for a few years.
Early the next morning, they packed their bags and headed to the countryside.
The old man found out about this after Hugo Quinn had left. He frowned, unable to understand why he was going to the countryside for the New Year this year, and in such a hurry.
Seeing as he didn’t have much time left, wasn’t this son supposed to stay by his side?
He looked at the ward somewhat despondently, then sighed.
At this time, Eleanor Hollis and Hugo Quinn were already in the car. The two looked at the blue sky and white clouds outside, feeling very good.
Marcus was going to the countryside for the first time, and he was excited all the way.
Bridget Sutton lived far away, and it wasn’t until seven in the evening that they stopped outside her house.
Bridget Sutton was smoking cured meat when she heard the sound of a car outside and quickly ran out, indeed seeing her granddaughter had returned.
"Luna." Bridget Sutton wiped her hands and spoke excitedly.
"Grandma, we’re spending the New Year with you this year. Did you prepare any delicious food?"
Eleanor warmly held the old woman’s hand, feeling a wave of warmth in her heart. Only here did she feel at peace, not needing to worry about the rights and wrongs of Serenford.
"Is this Marcus? He’s grown taller."
Marcus felt the old woman touching his head and smiled obediently, "Great-Grandma, this is a gift for you."
When preparing to set off, Marcus prepared a gift for the old lady, which was tea from home, but he repackaged it.
Bridget Sutton’s heart almost melted. This child was so sensible.
"Marcus, come in, come in and sit down; it’s cold outside."
The countryside was a bit colder than the city, but there was a kang bed inside, and as long as you sat on it, you felt warm all over.
Bridget Sutton cheerfully brought out fruit and sunflower seeds, her eyes squinting with a smile.
When her granddaughter went back to her parents angrily last time, Hugo chased after her. At that time, he said he would come to the countryside with Eleanor for the New Year, and it really happened. She thought he was just comforting her as an old lady.
Bridget Sutton felt a bit relieved. She always knew she had good judgment; this man was indeed reliable.
"Didn’t you say on the phone last time that your mother had returned?"
Bridget Sutton suddenly asked, as she cherished the real Rachel Lynch; she couldn’t imagine how much that child had suffered.
Eleanor’s face stiffened; it was the last person she wanted to hear about now.
"Grandma, she’s not my mother anymore. I’d rather believe my mom is already dead."
She lowered her eyes, thinking of Rachel’s nonchalant drugging in the coffee, and felt a chill in her heart.
Bridget Sutton paused, holding her teacup. She had always known her granddaughter had her own ideas. She was already old and couldn’t empathize with many things.
"Luna, do what you think is right. In my heart, you’re the most important. I’m old, and I don’t have many years left. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters."
She saw the kindness in this child and didn’t want her to suffer any loss.
Eleanor forced a smile and quickly dismissed the thought of Rachel.
Marcus, visiting the countryside for the first time, kept stepping on the snow in the yard for fun. Seeing the smoke curling in the distance, he even took a video of it on his phone.
Eleanor and Hugo were chased out by Bridget Sutton, as the kitchen was already small, and it was even more cramped with two more people, so they had no choice but to go and play in the snow with Marcus.
"Mommy, look at this."
Marcus had built a snowman on the ground, but it was still missing a nose.
Eleanor quickly turned to the house to grab a carrot and inserted it into the snowman.
Hugo used two branches to slightly modify it, acting as the snowman’s arms.
The family of three collectively completed the snowman.
Bridget Sutton, in the kitchen, happened to see this scene and smiled faintly.
She liked Hugo from the first glance, and knowing her granddaughter was entangled with him, she didn’t stop it.
Her granddaughter’s previous marriage had been full of misfortune, and she urgently needed someone to give her security and happiness, and Hugo happened to be such a man.
Once you grow old, everything becomes more touching.
Bridget Sutton watched from the window for a while, seeing the three happily modifying the snowman, the sincerity in her eyes growing, and she quickly sped up her actions.
The countryside nights weren’t as brightly lit as the city, so after nightfall, it was silent here, with distant dog barks faintly audible.
Bridget Sutton made ten dishes, half of which were meat dishes.
"Grandma, you made too much. We can’t finish it all."
Eleanor looked at the table full of dishes and felt a bit overwhelmed.
There were only four of them; how could they eat so much?
"Don’t worry, don’t worry. Hugo and Marcus rarely come; we can’t shortchange them. There’s not much to eat in the countryside. These chickens and ducks, I raised myself, very healthy."
She placed a chicken drumstick into Marcus’s bowl, her eyes full of kindness.
