Chapter 382: Hoist with One’s Own Petard
CHAPTER 382: CHAPTER 382: HOIST WITH ONE’S OWN PETARD
Marcus’s body trembled slightly, lowering his brows without a word.
This person is bad, trying to deal with Mommy.
Eleanor Hollis did not notice the exchange of glances between the two; her heart was still worried about Hugo Quinn, not knowing how Hugo was doing now.
"Eleanor, where am I sleeping tonight?"
Grace Wexler spoke softly, rubbing her eyes, pretending to be very sleepy.
Eleanor Hollis quickly got up and led her upstairs.
Marcus sat on the sofa without moving, watching the two’s silhouettes disappear. He took out the phone Eleanor had seized, turned it on, and made calls to Julian Sterling and Evan Yancy.
"Uncle Sterling, are you busy lately? I miss you so much. Could you come to my house and keep me company? I’ll tell you a secret — a frightening woman has come to our house. She’s so mean to me when Mommy isn’t around, but Mommy doesn’t know she’s bad. Uncle Sterling, come protect me, I’m scared without Dad here."
"Uncle Yancy, what are you up to? Uncle Sterling is coming to my house for some fun, why don’t you come along too? You two can keep each other company here; recently, please stay at my house and don’t leave. If something happens to me, Dad would be really upset."
With the child talking like this, for Julian Sterling and Evan Yancy not to come would make them beasts.
The two happened to meet at the doorway, feeling somewhat helpless upon seeing each other.
Marcus hopped over to open the door; seeing them arrive, his face was full of joy.
"You’re finally here, now I’m not worried at all."
Julian Sterling and Evan Yancy sat down on the sofa, seeing the child’s reliance on them, feeling a bit softened inside.
And with Hugo indeed not around, it’s right that this child is highly vigilant.
Not long after, Eleanor Hollis came downstairs and saw the two men sitting on the sofa, surprise flashing in her eyes.
"You guys..."
When did these two arrive, and why didn’t she know?
Julian Sterling calmly turned on the TV, tilting his head slightly.
"Hugo Quinn said he couldn’t be at ease, asked us to check on the child; if he wasn’t coming back, neither would we."
Upon hearing that it was Hugo’s arrangement, Eleanor Hollis felt warmth in her heart; that person was still abroad, yet worried about them.
She turned to arrange rooms for the two, but Julian Sterling stopped her.
"We have our rooms here; back when you weren’t married, we’d often come to stay over. No need to bother about us, off you go to sleep."
Eleanor Hollis hadn’t rested well for many days, with large dark circles beneath her eyes. Hearing them say this, she nodded.
While going upstairs, she reminded Marcus, "Marcus, don’t play too late and don’t disturb the two uncles’ sleep."
"Mommy, I know, don’t worry."
Marcus tilted his head, sitting comfortably between the two men.
Once her figure disappeared, Julian Sterling finally patted Marcus’s head.
"Is the woman who came Grace Wexler?"
Marcus knew to call her Auntie Wexler. Now hearing Julian say so, it seemed it was Grace.
"Marcus, don’t be afraid; we’ll protect you."
The two escorted Marcus back upstairs, then each returned to their room.
Grace Wexler was unaware that there were two more men in the villa.
At three in the morning, she quietly got up, observed at the door for a moment, and then went downstairs, intending to put a bag of drug powder into the water Eleanor regularly drank. This was the drug used by the old lady against Xavier Crawford, because of which Xavier took her.
When Eleanor falls for it, she’ll find some men to serve her then; surely her expression will be quite spectacular upon waking.
She thought it over; she wouldn’t directly kill Eleanor but would torment her bit by bit this way.
She walked downstairs, and just as she placed a bag of drug powder inside, she turned and a man appeared before her — Julian Sterling.
Julian Sterling raised an eyebrow slightly, seeing her fiddle with something, his mouth curving.
"Miss Wexler up in the middle of the night, what are you up to here?"
Grace Wexler’s face turned pale. Had this man seen her move just now?
Damned, when did Julian Sterling come to the villa, she hadn’t a clue at all.
"I was just thirsty, came out to drink some water."
Julian Sterling’s gaze stopped at the water she just drugged; it was the villa’s drinking water machine, all were drinking from it.
"Miss Wexler, if you’re thirsty, then have a drink."
Grace Wexler’s face looked awful; she had just found an excuse casually, yet it blocked all her escape routes.
She just drugged the water, and Julian now asked her to drink. Not drinking would show she had a guilty conscience.
With a stiff face, Grace Wexler took a cup and filled a glass at the water dispenser, lightly sipped.
"Miss Wexler wasn’t thirsty? Drinking just a little?"
Julian Sterling’s tone was full of suspicion, his gaze like knives piercing her body.
Grace Wexler gritted her teeth, drinking the glass of water completely.
"Mr. Sterling, anything else?"
Julian Sterling’s gaze flickered; he hadn’t seen Grace’s move, only found her lingering by the water dispenser, intuition told him something was amiss. But now Grace had drunk the water, indicating it had no problem.
He turned and returned to his room.
Grace Wexler gritted her teeth, her face already starting to redden.
Even Xavier Crawford couldn’t escape from this drug effect, how could she resist it?
Also, the water from the dispenser couldn’t remain; Julian Sterling now already suspected her. If he found something wrong with the water tomorrow morning, she couldn’t wash this clean even if she jumped into the Yellow River.
Grace Wexler gritted her teeth, poured all the water into the sink, and rubbing her face, went out.
This drug effect was too strong; she couldn’t remain in the villa, or else sounds would soon be heard.
Grace Wexler cursed Julian Sterling hundreds of times in her heart!
Now, in the dead of night, there were no cars outside, she couldn’t find anyone to help her.
Grace’s vision was already a bit blurry. If a man appeared beside her now, she’d surely pounce.
Suddenly, a familiar car appeared in Grace Wexler’s sight; it was Nathaniel Quinn’s car.
Ha, this man is truly devoted; so late, still roaming near Eleanor’s residence.
She slowly approached the car, then collapsed.
Nathaniel Quinn was startled. How could a woman be out at this hour?
Thinking it was Eleanor in his excitement, he got out of the car only to find it was a woman he didn’t know at all.
This was the Wexler Family’s daughter? It seemed she was close to Eleanor, or else she wouldn’t be staying at the villa.
Lately, whenever he had the chance, Nathaniel would go around the villa, hoping to glimpse Eleanor.
Even seeing a sliver of light from the windows made him feel content.
Previously, he had been scornful of that woman, but now he’s increasingly realizing she’s the light of his life.
