CHAPTER 40: CHAPTER 40: MEETING IN PRIVATE

Grace Lynch also felt Nathaniel Quinn watching her. Ha, this man knew she was kidnapped and could still sit here so calmly. So-called love is indeed fake.

The doctor finished the bandaging and left, and the other members of the Quinton Family left in twos and threes.

"Grace, it’s good that you’re fine. We were really worried about you."

The old man spoke slowly, his tightly clenched heart finally relaxing.

"Dad, I’m sorry for making you worry."

Grace bowed her head, her eyes dim and unclear.

"Since you’re okay, we’ll be going too. Tonight has really been a big fuss."

Beatrice Sullivan said with a fake smile. Ever since Nathaniel Quinn admitted he liked Grace, she hasn’t shown this woman any goodwill.

After all, only women know which women are fakes. Her son was deceived.

Nathaniel Quinn stood up alongside Beatrice Sullivan, his face looked unpleasant.

Normally, seeing Grace injured, he would wish it was himself who was hurt, but now his face showed indifference.

Grace didn’t know what had happened in between; she only felt that both men were unusually cold toward her tonight, making her feel somewhat anxious.

She was still a bit annoyed when she returned to her room.

Her phone rang just then with a message alert.

She quickly picked it up and saw a message from Nathaniel Quinn, inviting her to meet up tomorrow.

Grace’s lips curled up slightly. She thought he had grown cold towards her, but it turned out he was just restraining himself in front of the Quinton Family.

She thought, after all, how could feelings of over ten years be given up just like that.

Even though last time at the Quinton Family she had let Nathaniel down, this man’s love was so intense and passionate that he wouldn’t care about such minor offenses.

In a good mood, she took a bath, did a simple beauty treatment, and then went to bed to rest.

Meanwhile, in the hospital, Marcus was still by Eleanor Hollis’s bedside, with dark circles under his eyes.

Eleanor felt bad and asked Hugo Quinn to take Marcus back to sleep, but Marcus refused to leave, tightly holding onto her sleeve.

Hugo had no choice but to have the doctor add an extra bed nearby and placed Marcus on it.

Knowing he wouldn’t have to leave, Marcus finally relaxed and, clutching Eleanor’s hand, fell into a deep sleep.

Eleanor was amused, not knowing why this child was so dependent on her, considering they hadn’t known each other long.

"Marcus really likes you."

Hugo’s eyes were gentle, looking at his son’s sleeping face, feeling his heart melt.

"Hmm, I’m honored."

Eleanor yawned and noticed it was already eleven at night. Wasn’t this person going to leave and sleep?

If she guessed right, he should be very busy.

"Mr. Quinn, I’ll keep an eye on Marcus. You should go get some sleep."

She said considerately, but noticed Hugo didn’t move. Was he really planning to stay here too?

She wouldn’t be able to sleep like that, after all, it was the same room. With a man there, she’d feel uneasy.

"I’ll rest next door."

Hugo stood up and said blandly.

Eleanor breathed a sigh of relief. That was good; otherwise, she really didn’t know how to say it.

After Hugo left, she turned to gaze quietly at Marcus.

The child was really well-behaved, but deep down, he was somewhat assertive. He looked good even while sleeping. Truly worthy of being Hugo’s son.

Eleanor’s eyes grew increasingly gentle, she finally sighed, laid down, and fell asleep.

That night, everyone had their own thoughts. The night deepened, and as dawn broke, someone got up to dress and prepare.

Grace looked at herself in the mirror, pleased, raised her eyebrows, and then put on her favorite pair of earrings.

These earrings were a gift from Nathaniel Quinn back then, a fact only the two of them knew. Now wearing them to meet Nathaniel, it should stir some memories in him, right?

She arrived early at the place she and Nathaniel agreed upon, only to find him already there, daydreaming as he looked outside.

"Nathaniel."

She called gently, sitting down across from him, placing her bag aside.

"Why did you arrive so early? Did you wait for me long?"

Her face was full of guilt as she picked up the menu, ordered something she liked, and ordered a little for Nathaniel too.

"Grace."

Nathaniel suddenly turned his head, looking at her intently.

Grace was startled. She suddenly felt like he wanted to say something very important, but when she looked again, she found only deep affection in his eyes.

Had she just seen it wrong?

Grace thought with pursed lips, instantly pushing that gaze to the back of her mind.

"Grace, I recently acquired a new place, the swimming pool there is quite nice. How about I take you swimming after dinner?"

Swimming?

She couldn’t swim at all.

Grace’s face stiffened. This wasn’t the first time Nathaniel had invited her to swim.

Before, she always thought he wanted to take advantage of the time swimming, after all, being skin-to-skin made things easy.

But this time, she keenly felt Nathaniel’s intentions had changed.

"Nathaniel, why the sudden urge to go swimming? I’m not really in the condition for it today, it’s that time of the month."

She casually uttered a lie but forgot that Nathaniel loved her, remembering all her dates clearly, always preparing something soothing for her during that time.

"Grace, didn’t you just finish your period?"

Nathaniel said puzzled, his gaze clean, without any other emotions.

Grace was momentarily uncertain again. Did he really want to take her swimming, or was there another motive?

"I... my cycle’s been irregular lately, Nathaniel, you can see I’ve put on such nice makeup today. Wouldn’t swimming ruin it all?"

She began to act coy, the earrings on her earlobes catching Nathaniel’s eye at this moment.

Nathaniel squinted his eyes, recalling her ruthless behavior at the old house, his mouth twitching.

If she didn’t plan to be with him, why did she always give him these illusions?

Maybe this was Grace’s strategy, having an imperceptible influence, making him willingly wait.

The previous him might have instantly forgotten her behavior at the old house, but today was different. He wanted to know, was it really her who saved him back then?

Even though his heart already had an answer, he was willing to give her one more chance.

"Grace, was it really you who saved me back then?"
