CHAPTER 41: CHAPTER 41: CALL HER MOMMY

This person has repeatedly made excuses to avoid going to the swimming pool, probably just like Eleanor Hollis said, afraid to enter the water.

Grace Lynch finally understood this man’s purpose; he had begun to suspect what happened back then.

"Nathaniel, of course it was me. I almost died saving you back then. I’ve had a phobia of water ever since, so I’m afraid to go to the pool with you."

As Grace spoke, her tone grew more dejected as she quickly came up with this excuse for herself.

Nathaniel Quinn’s eyes gradually dimmed, and his face was full of disappointment. "Really? What a coincidence."

He seemed to be murmuring, his gaze shifting away from her face; he disliked her pretense of composure.

The real Grace, so skillful, skillful enough to have deceived him all these years.

Suddenly, he thought of Eleanor Hollis, to whom he had been married for five years. His heart felt a pang of pain, knowing he had always treated her with harsh words, never a touch of kindness.

He thought Grace was his one true love, but reality had slapped him hard in the face.

"Nathaniel, don’t you believe me? Did someone say something to you?"

Grace noticed Nathaniel’s emotional shift and suddenly grasped his hand.

"Nathaniel, after knowing me for so many years, don’t you know what kind of person I am?"

Her frail demeanor was truly pitiful, and Nathaniel’s fingers slightly curled.

Suddenly, he felt that Grace was wearing a thick mask, obscuring her true self from his sight.

"So, was it really you who saved me, Grace?"

He spoke with difficulty, finding his need for verification laughable.

"It was me!"

Grace said with reddened eyes, biting her lips tightly.

"Then why, when you were kidnapped, did they ask for Eleanor Hollis to be sent over instead? Everyone knows I love you; using Eleanor Hollis couldn’t threaten me."

Nathaniel stared into her eyes, not missing a shred of her emotions.

Grace’s heart trembled; at that time, she just wanted Eleanor Hollis dead.

As long as Eleanor was sent over, she would surely die.

She knew Nathaniel cared for her and would definitely trade Eleanor for her.

But blinded by jealousy and madness, she completely overlooked such a huge flaw.

"Nathaniel, you should ask the kidnappers about that."

She pretended to be calm, her nails digging deep into her palms, the pain the only thing keeping her sober.

Nathaniel’s face grew more disappointed. He suddenly stood up to settle the bill.

"Grace, you’re Hugo’s wife. You should avoid meeting with me alone in the future. It’s not good if someone sees. Also, the earrings I gave you, throw them away; this is just pointless."

Upon hearing this, Grace stood up in a panic, reaching out to grab his sleeve.

"Nathaniel, what do you mean? Are you planning to give up on me?"

Her tone was accusatory, even incredulous.

But Nathaniel clearly remembered how this woman treated him at Quinton Manor.

"Grace, would you divorce my uncle and be with me? You said you’d consider it, but it’s been five years. Did you really think I’m still the fool I was? You never planned to leave my uncle from the start. You know what he can give you; I can’t offer that. So you knowingly wouldn’t divorce yet still gave me hope."

"It’s not like that, Nathaniel. I never thought of it that way..."

Grace’s mind was in chaos, feeling like everything was spiraling out of control. What was going on?

Nathaniel shook her hand off. When all the facts lay bare, he suddenly realized her tears seemed so fake.

"Nathaniel!"

Grace tried to run after him, but her high heel broke, and she fell straight to the ground.

Nathaniel suddenly crouched to hold her, his face somber.

"Nathaniel, you still love me, don’t you? This is all a misunderstanding; I can explain."

Grace traced his face with her finger, unwilling to lose this man.

"Grace, your tactics are outdated. I do love you, but now I realize I’ve loved the wrong person from the start. You’ve stolen someone else’s place and shamelessly enjoyed it till now."

After speaking, Nathaniel released her without concern for whether she’d fall.

Yuna Lynch lay miserably on the ground, watching the man’s cold back, and viciously threw her purse several times.

She had stolen someone else’s place? Whose place? All this was achieved through her efforts!

She admitted it wasn’t her who saved Nathaniel back then; she later found out it was Eleanor Hollis. But Eleanor was stupid, did a good deed without seeking acknowledgment, allowing Grace to take advantage!

Grace gritted her teeth and stood back up, determined that Nathaniel would come crawling back to her!

She was now certain that the unusual behavior of Hugo and Nathaniel was due to Eleanor Hollis; Eleanor must have said something she shouldn’t have in front of them.

She hurriedly called Eleanor Hollis, gritting her teeth as she began to question her angrily.

"Eleanor Hollis! Did you badmouth me in front of Nathaniel?! I’m telling you! No matter what you do, he won’t like you. You were the one who saved him back then, so what? He’s loved me for over ten years, which can’t be changed overnight!"

Grace’s tone was smug, nearly grinding her teeth to bits.

"If it can’t change overnight, then why are you so anxious to call me?"

Eleanor was playing a tank battle game with Marcus, uninterested in arguing with this woman.

Grace’s whole body stiffened, large tears rolling down her cheeks.

"I haven’t stolen anything from you! The cold shoulder you get at the Quinton Family is your own doing! Your child died, so what? As long as Marcus is here, I’ll always stay at the Quinton Family, and your little tricks mean nothing to me."

"Oh, finished talking?"

Eleanor stroked Marcus’s head, struggling to play with one hand, not wanting to listen to Grace anymore. So after hanging up, she tossed her phone aside.

"Mommy."

Marcus excitedly clutched the controller, ready to go on a killing spree.

Eleanor found it amusing. Hospital stays were boring, but with this child, the dull days seemed to gain a touch of fun.

However, she needed to correct the child’s way of addressing her, as others might misunderstand if they heard it.

"Marcus, you shouldn’t call me Mommy."

"Mommy."

Marcus looked at her confusedly, pouting his lips in grievance.

Previously, when Marcus managed to say two words, he’d pause for a long time in between, but now he could utter words fluently.

"You can call me ’sister’ or ’auntie’ instead," Eleanor said with a smile, putting down the controller.

"Mommy!"

Marcus’ tone suddenly turned sharp, staring at her without blinking.

He was angry, and Eleanor could clearly sense it.
