The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 44: Interrupted
CHAPTER 44: CHAPTER 44: INTERRUPTED
"Mommy."
The door to the room suddenly swung open, and Marcus appeared at the entrance clutching a pillow, hesitating upon seeing the two people together.
"Mommy?"
Hugo Quinn was jolted awake by this voice.
He rubbed his head, his face turning stiff, and immediately stood up.
Dammit!
"President! I saw this person sneaking around outside."
Assistant Lan Yancy came in, escorting the maid, and upon seeing the situation in the room, felt as if his vision went dark.
What’s going on? What did the President do to Miss Hollis?
Hugo Quinn held back, grabbing Marcus, "Lock her up and get the doctor to check me and Eleanor Hollis; we’ve been set up."
Lan Yancy was utterly shocked and quickly brought the doctor upstairs to examine both Hugo Quinn and Eleanor Hollis.
"This is a potent drug, not sold much nowadays since there’s strict orders from above; probably smuggled in. I’ll give you both an injection, otherwise, it’ll be very uncomfortable."
The doctor took out two needles, drew the medicine, and injected it into Hugo Quinn’s vein after pulling back his wrist.
Hugo Quinn’s expression was gloomy, almost as if you could squeeze water from it.
Before, the villa was full of men to avoid situations like this.
But after Eleanor Hollis arrived, he thought she might feel awkward, so he temporarily hired a maid.
And how long had it been, yet someone managed to drug him.
After Eleanor Hollis received her injection, she finally quieted down, sweat covering her forehead.
The doctor tucked her in under the covers, checked Hugo Quinn again, and sighed.
"Luckily it wasn’t some other drug; the people in this villa need a good purge."
Being Hugo Quinn’s private doctor, he was summoned whenever needed and had earned his trust.
Hugo Quinn understood the doctor’s words; that maid definitely couldn’t stay tonight, and it would serve as a warning to others.
He felt himself nearly drained, but seeing Eleanor Hollis now calm, he breathed a sigh of relief and tugged at his tie.
"Marcus, why don’t you go back to your room to sleep tonight, Miss Hollis and I aren’t feeling well."
Marcus, although autistic, had a normal IQ and knew that something was wrong with them, obediently nodded.
Hugo Quinn immediately returned to his room; after sweating, he felt sticky all over.
He entered the bathroom and turned on the cold water, giving himself a thorough rinse.
After half an hour, he finally calmed down, squinting his eyes to compose himself.
Meanwhile, Eleanor Hollis slept straight through to dawn, exhausted from the events with Hugo Quinn and the injection from the doctor. She barely woke up throughout the night.
It wasn’t until noon that she finally opened her eyes and rising, felt completely powerless, even her lips were dry and cracked.
After a simple wash, she went downstairs, only to find Hugo Quinn still there, which was unusual as he should be at the company.
Seeing him, something flashed rapidly in her mind, her face suddenly turning pale.
She had called Hugo Quinn last night, and then what?
Why couldn’t she remember anything?
Standing there, Eleanor furrowed her brows, suddenly picturing the two of them embracing.
With these thoughts, her scalp tingled; what on earth happened last night?
"Mr. Quinn..."
Did this person resist last night? Would he think she’s that type of woman?
Hugo Quinn was reading the newspaper, somewhat unsettled himself, but seeing Eleanor Hollis more unsettled than him, he relaxed slightly, and looked up indifferently.
"What is it?"
"Last night..."
Seeing him act as if nothing had occurred, Eleanor Hollis even began to wonder if it had all been a dream, a rather colorful one.
"Miss Hollis, last night was my mistake."
He already dealt with the maid and warned the others.
"Last night we were both drugged, but don’t worry, I didn’t do anything to you."
Hugo Quinn continued, fearing Eleanor Hollis might overthink.
She remembered last night’s milk she drank; clearly, the maid was the problem. No wonder Hugo Quinn hadn’t allowed women into the villa before; this likely wasn’t the first occurrence.
She sat down, last night’s imagery replaying in her mind.
Not being a saint, such things happened, and she couldn’t be without thoughts on it.
Feeling her face burn, she guiltily sipped from a water cup, not realizing it was Hugo Quinn’s.
Hugo Quinn saw her hand trembling fiercely, found it amusing, and did not stop her, watching as she drank from his own water.
Only after a long while did Eleanor Hollis realize it was Hugo Quinn’s cup, tightening her fingers upon seeing the lipstick stain on it.
