CHAPTER 69: CHAPTER 69: WE ARE IMPOSSIBLE

She is just a divorced woman, not worth his time.

"Mr. Quinn, there’s no possibility for us."

She said calmly. Hugo Quinn was also divorced, but with his appearance and status, he could have any woman he wanted.

Why waste time on her? She was well aware of her own standing. She had nothing now, just a heart in her chest.

If she lost even that, she would be finished.

In the past few years, she’d seen enough young men from Serenford’s high society play with women. In their eyes, women were merely games and tools.

They would never invest genuine feelings. Once they were done, they’d conform to family arrangements and marry someone of an appropriate match.

Hugo Quinn’s current interest in her might merely be a whim. Before long, he would lose interest.

She thought so, and after some struggle, decided to move into this apartment.

Because in her heart, she felt she would eventually be driven away.

Hugo Quinn looked at her composed face, seething with frustration. He wanted to crack the calmness on her face, to see what she looked like in panic.

But he extinguished that thought as soon as it emerged.

"If it’s because of my relationship with Nathaniel, I can tell you, as long as you like me and want to be with me, I will face everything ahead. Eleanor Hollis, I know you’re not a timid woman. You have your own thoughts. Maybe five years of marriage made you disappointed in men, but I still want to tell you, I’m different from other men."

He was sincere; he genuinely wanted to spend his life with this woman.

Eleanor Hollis didn’t speak, gently pushing him away.

"Mr. Quinn, it’s late. Let’s sleep."

Hugo Quinn concealed the gloom in his eyes, looked down at the cigarette between his fingers, stubbed it out, and gave a faint smile.

"Marcus will stay here for a while."

Marcus relied on this woman; he couldn’t forcefully take the child away.

Moreover, with Marcus staying here, he had an excuse to come over.

Eleanor Hollis nodded in agreement.

Seeing Hugo Quinn still there, knowing he wasn’t ready to sleep, she went back to her room and lay on the bed.

But in her mind, Hugo Quinn’s words echoed repeatedly.

"Do you really not like me? Even a little..."

People are mundane; with such an excellent suitor, how could one have no thoughts?

But she no longer wished to trust men, especially a man from the Quinton family.

She understood the stakes and believed even more that she should keep her distance from Hugo Quinn.

When she got up the next day, Hugo Quinn had already gone to work, but Marcus was still asleep.

She suddenly found it amusing. What was the difference between living here and in the villa? It was just another place.

What she didn’t know was that the old master, upon hearing she had moved out of the villa, finally breathed a sigh of relief and had no intention of talking to her.

"Marcus, I have a job interview in the afternoon, so you might have to stay home alone."

She rubbed Marcus’s head gently, speaking softly.

Marcus nodded, looking at her reluctantly, "Come back early."

Eleanor Hollis wore a gentle smile. When she first met Marcus, he was reluctant to speak, pausing for a long time after every two words.

But now, he could say four or five words in a row, so her companionship was indeed helpful.

She played games with the child for a while, then changed clothes and went to the company for her interview.

Her education was not high, and she hadn’t initially hoped to get into any big company.

The company she was interviewing for was as insignificant as dust among the many enterprises in Serenford, but they offered her an interview.

So she went out of her way to tidy herself up and not miss this rare opportunity.

"Are you Miss Hollis? Please come in."

The receptionist at the door saw her and politely led her to wait outside the interview room.

There were seven or eight people here for the interview, apparently going in sequence.

Eleanor Hollis was somewhat nervous, silently reviewing her unremarkable resume and pondering over what she was going to say.

This was not her first interview; when she was with the Quinton Family, she had worked outside.

About an hour later, it was finally her turn.

She walked in and found the interviewer was a man around forty, whose eyes lit up when he saw her.

His blunt gaze swept over her from head to toe.

Eleanor Hollis felt uncomfortable under such a gaze, as if she had been stripped bare.

She quickly sat down, wore a smile, and gave a simple self-introduction.

"Miss Hollis, without a college degree, it might be difficult to secure this job."

The man stated the truth, and upon closely examining her resume, he discovered she was divorced.

"You’re divorced? Unbelievable. You look so young, I didn’t expect you to be divorced."

The man spoke again, throughout the entire process not asking any professional questions. Eleanor Hollis felt awkward, disliking it when people pried into her personal affairs.

The interview lasted about ten minutes, with the man intentionally or unintentionally inquiring about her divorce.

The smile on Eleanor Hollis’s face gradually faded, and just when she planned to get up and leave, the man said,

"Congratulations, you passed the interview, starting work tomorrow."

Eleanor Hollis had many questions, but the person had already gotten up and walked away.

She left the company in a daze, dissatisfied with the interviewer’s gaze, but at least she now had a job.

That night, she rarely made a few meat dishes.

Even Hugo Quinn noticed her happiness and couldn’t help asking, "Did you land a job?"

Since Eleanor Hollis moved here, he seldom returned to the villa, and Lan Yancy, being perceptive, had brought him many changes of clothes.

"Yes, I can start working tomorrow. But the interviewer was strange; he didn’t ask me about work at all."

Hugo Quinn pressed his lips together, his eyes deep, "If you go to the workplace, be careful, especially about the unspoken rules..."

He was a little worried about her; she had an appearance that seemed to evoke protection, a look that any man would want to hide away.

Eleanor Hollis glanced at him, thinking he might need to improve his taste, particularly when it came to assessing women.

She wasn’t a stunning beauty, and she didn’t understand which loose screw made him think a leader would take a fancy to her.

"Actually, you’re very pretty; don’t sell yourself short."

He meant it. Eleanor Hollis might not be striking at first glance, but her face was clean, and the serene glow in her eyes was deeply captivating.
