CHAPTER 73: CHAPTER 73: THE BIG SWEEP

"Officer, this is a misunderstanding!"

Their previous arrogance vanished completely; it was obvious to them, even if they were clueless, that someone was targeting them.

Yet, with the abundant evidence, it was hard for them to deny the charges.

Sean Cameron never imagined that just by this morning, the company he was supposed to collaborate with had been investigated, discovering numerous dirty dealings, and all assets were confiscated.

His legs felt weak, completely unaware of whom those two executives had offended.

Now he dared not to continue cooperating with that company and immediately thought of severing all previous transaction records.

But he was evidently a step behind the police, who followed the trail to his side company and, in full view, took him directly away.

Sean Cameron felt weak all over, almost dragged to the police station by others.

Faced with concrete evidence, he had no refutation.

The police were delighted; they had been investigating these companies for a long time, but the evidence was well hidden, and with powerful protection from behind, they had made no progress for over half a month.

Unexpectedly, last night, someone delivered the evidence straight to their police station.

Excited, they went to investigate those companies overnight and successfully nabbed them all.

Eleanor Hollis knew nothing of this; she had initially thought Sean Cameron would call her again and felt anxious.

But as the morning passed with no response from her phone, she breathed a sigh of relief and blocked his number.

"Mommy."

Marcus was sitting on the sofa doing homework; the child had never attended kindergarten due to his autism.

Eleanor Hollis planned to teach him herself.

He was highly talented, mastering things instantly.

Eleanor Hollis grew increasingly satisfied as she watched, "You continue working, I’ll go prepare lunch."

Marcus nodded, seriously writing in his exercise book.

Eleanor Hollis cooked two small dishes, not making it too complicated as she and Marcus were alone at home for lunch.

Marcus ate happily, finishing two bowls of rice.

After washing the dishes, Eleanor Hollis decided to visit her grandmother at the hospital, and Marcus followed alongside her, saying he wanted to go too.

She couldn’t refuse, thinking he might be bored staying home, so she truly brought him to the hospital.

Bridget Sutton’s condition improved day by day, sitting up cheerfully when she saw them arrive to chat.

"Grandma, the doctor said you can be discharged now. I found a place for you outside; in two days, I’ll take you out."

Eleanor Hollis poured a glass of water for the elderly woman, placing it in front of her.

Bridget Sutton was pleased; she couldn’t recall how long she’d been hospitalized, and going outside to breathe fresh air brought a surge of spirit.

As they chatted, a nurse opened the ward door.

"Lady, someone is here to see you."

Bridget Sutton and Eleanor Hollis turned their heads simultaneously, seeing the woman standing at the door.

Both faces froze at the same time without a word.

The visitor was Rachel Lynch, Eleanor Hollis’s mother.

But this mother had sent her to the countryside many years ago and had never cared for her.

Throughout the grandmother’s hospitalization, she hadn’t visited, perfectly deserving the description of "heartless."

"Mom."

Rachel Lynch greeted, clutching her purse as she walked over and sat slowly by the bed.

Bridget Sutton’s face turned away unpleasantly, "What are you here for?"

Rachel Lynch’s face tinged with hurt, sighing, "Mom, are you blaming me for not visiting you?"

Bridget Sutton didn’t want to speak to her, pulling Eleanor Hollis’s hand, face kind.

"Once I’m discharged, I won’t stay in Serenford; you know I don’t much like big cities. Then I’ll return to the countryside; you must take good care of yourself."

Eleanor Hollis knew all along that the person didn’t enjoy the fast-paced urban life, but letting the grandmother return alone to face those peculiar relatives was impossible.

"Grandma, I don’t want you to go back; Liam Lynch and Stella Lynch have ill intentions. I’m afraid they’ll harm you; please stay in Serenford with me, I’ll take good care of you."

Her face showed anxiety, tightly gripping the elderly woman’s hand.

Bridget Sutton, however, was resolute; her spouse was still in the countryside, and she wouldn’t live in the city.

"No matter what they say, they’re my children. They won’t harm me. Luna, just make sure you take care of yourself; don’t worry about me. I’ve already been a burden to you for too long."

As they conversed, they paid no attention to Rachel Lynch sitting by.

Rachel Lynch’s eyes flickered with malice, her fists slowly clenched.

She came today to speak with Eleanor Hollis.

"Eleanor..."

She spoke, breaking the harmonious atmosphere between the two.

Only then did Eleanor Hollis look at her nominal mother, curious about her intentions.

Rachel Lynch noticed the sarcasm on her face, realizing this person had truly changed, and pursed her lips.

"I heard you’re getting close to Hugo Quinn, Eleanor. You’re from different worlds; you’ll never be together. Don’t hold any other illusions and keep your distance from Hugo Quinn, or the Quinton Family won’t spare you."

Her words sounded caring as if she were thinking of Eleanor Hollis, but Eleanor saw right through her motive.

Without exposing it, she just met her gaze, seemingly waiting for her to continue.

Rachel Lynch paused briefly, indeed speaking again.

"You and Hugo Quinn have no chance, but Anna has. Anna has always liked Hugo Quinn; upon hearing about Hugo’s divorce from Grace Lynch, she’s thrilled. I want her to marry Hugo Quinn. Eleanor, I don’t want you intervening and ruining their fate."

Sure enough, it’s all about her younger daughter.

Eleanor Hollis felt amused, recalling how Rachel Lynch had mercilessly sent her to the countryside for Anna.

Even later, when she married into the Quinton Family, Rachel had never come to see her.

This time, she’s here once more for her younger daughter.

"Ms. Lynch, I don’t know what you’re talking about. If there’s nothing else, I hope you leave and don’t disrupt my conversation with Grandma."

Rachel Lynch’s face turned pale, frowning at Eleanor, "You’re not even listening to me anymore?"

Her voice was so self-righteous, as if she forgot the severity of what she had done to Eleanor Hollis.

Eleanor Hollis sneered, "Why should I listen to you? Who are you?"

Rachel Lynch felt startled inside, looking at her in surprise.

But then, her eyes reddened, "Back then, leaving you had its reasons, Eleanor. Please don’t blame Mom, okay? I didn’t want to do it either..."

Her face showed difficulty, full of mother-daughter affection.

However, Eleanor Hollis hadn’t anticipated any maternal love; no matter how convincing she acted, Eleanor wouldn’t believe a bit.

"Ms. Lynch, then tell me, what was your hardship? What kind of hardship made you abandon your own daughter, and what kind of hardship made you cold-hearted enough not to visit Grandma?"
