The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 98: I Will Do My Best
CHAPTER 98: CHAPTER 98: I WILL DO MY BEST
Eleanor Hollis was completely unaware that her words inadvertently acknowledged her relationship with Hugo Quinn.
After explaining to the child, she looked up to see Hugo smiling gently. Her face froze for a moment as she recalled her words, and a wave of embarrassment surged from her feet upwards.
"So, is it that you’re too afraid to be with me because it’s difficult?"
Hugo asked calmly. He knew Eleanor wasn’t foolish, and this choice was the best for her.
But just giving up on someone who could accompany her through life, does she really not regret it?
Eleanor lowered her eyes. In these days interacting with Hugo, she could clearly feel her own attraction.
But she had just ended a five-year marriage, and now getting involved with another man, she would despise herself.
"Mr. Quinn, I..."
"Okay, you don’t have to say anymore. I won’t give up. If it’s because of the Quinton Family, then let me tell you, I’m not like your good-for-nothing ex-husband. He had no vision, I do. He relied on the family, I don’t. I’ll do my best to give you the most beautiful future."
These words were domineering, yet they struck a chord in the woman’s heart.
Under such intense scrutiny, Eleanor didn’t dare to stay in the living room any longer and stood up in a panic, "I’ll go review those documents since I might need them tomorrow."
This excuse was indeed poorly made, but Hugo didn’t stop her from leaving.
"Dad, were you rejected?"
Marcus suddenly looked up and sighed.
With Dad like this, when would they truly become a family of three?
Hugo patted his head, "She’ll eventually compromise. Moreover, she can’t bear to leave you, Marcus, or be apart from you."
Marcus instantly brightened up, "Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll help you."
While the two of them discussed how to win Eleanor back, she sat staring blankly at a pile of documents.
She lay on the table, sighed, realizing that if this continued, she wouldn’t be able to control her inner feelings.
At that moment, her phone rang. Eleanor picked it up, noticing it was Nathaniel Quinn calling.
The last kidnapping incident involved him. How could he have the nerve to call her!
She frowned and directly blocked the number.
But soon, the phone rang again.
She thought that no matter how many times she blocked the number, the other side would find another way to call. So she simply answered, hoping to hear what he had to say.
"Is this Miss Eleanor Hollis?"
A gentle female voice asked, making Eleanor frown slightly, "I am."
June Sullivan watched the man, completely drunk and causing a scene at the karaoke bar, with some helplessness.
"Here’s the thing. Tonight, Nathaniel and I went shopping and accidentally saw you with another man. He seemed in a bad mood, so I brought him to the karaoke bar after dinner. Unexpectedly, he kept drinking and refused to leave. Could you come and see him?"
Eleanor calmly listened to June’s words, finding it amusing.
This must be Nathaniel’s new date, right? Asking her to come over at this moment, wasn’t it with ulterior motives?
"Sorry, I’m not familiar with him."
With that, she was about to hang up, but June quickly spoke up.
"Miss Hollis, I don’t know what happened between you and Nathaniel, but he really cares about you right now. If you feel even a little bit for him, could you possibly come and see him? I don’t know his family’s number, so I could only call you."
Eleanor couldn’t tell if this woman genuinely cared for Nathaniel or not. She curled her mouth coldly, "Since you don’t know what happened between us, please don’t judge me from a saintly perspective. I despise him. Even if he drinks himself to death there, it has nothing to do with me."
Before June could say more, she cut off the call.
Perhaps human nature is inherently dark. Criticizing Nathaniel made her feel a little better.
Her phone finally stopped ringing, and she contentedly went back to reviewing the documents.
Around ten in the evening, Hugo walked in with a cup of hot milk.
"Still studying?"
Eleanor nodded. She hadn’t eaten dinner and was feeling a bit hungry now.
Hugo silently placed the milk beside her, taking a sip himself, making Eleanor wrongly assume it was for her.
She pursed her lips and decided to finish her work quickly.
"If you don’t understand something, you can ask me, rather than guessing by yourself."
Hugo eventually couldn’t help but say softly.
Eleanor felt a bit embarrassed. She might not have experience working in a big company, but her intelligence wasn’t low.
Moreover, the more she studied these documents, the more she admired Lan Yancy. He was truly dedicated.
After going through them, she had a general understanding of the position.
"Actually, it’s okay. The documents are well-prepared, following a simple-to-complex approach. Lan Yancy put a lot of effort into it. No wonder he’s your most outstanding assistant. Just from these materials, he seems exceptionally capable."
Hugo raised an eyebrow, "You think Lan Yancy prepared these documents?"
Eleanor paused, wondering if Hugo had prepared them instead.
But seeing Hugo’s expression, she believed he indeed had prepared them.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, she started praising, "President Quinn lives up to the name. Grandeur couldn’t have developed so fast without you."
As long as it was her praise, Hugo was delighted.
"As long as you can understand it, it’s good."
He was worried Eleanor might not be able to handle the position, so he prepared an abundance of resources.
Eleanor suddenly felt touched. This person was the high-ranking president of Grandeur, yet he personally prepared so many things for her and even went to the employee cafeteria...
Hugo’s approach was too overwhelming, and at this rate, she wouldn’t be able to hold her defenses.
Like now, she watched with a trembling heart as he got closer and closer, finally pressing a kiss on her lips.
"If there’s anything else you don’t understand, you can come and ask me. This kiss is the interest for preparing the material for you."
Eleanor felt her lips warm, her face turning red.
Hugo, however, got up gently.
In such an intimate atmosphere, a few "gurgling" sounds suddenly rang out, impossible to ignore.
Eleanor wished for a hole to crawl into. Why did she embarrass herself in front of him like this!
Hugo chuckled softly while holding the milk, "Hungry? We didn’t eat anything tonight, so it’s natural to be hungry. Why don’t we go out and eat now?"
Eleanor turned her head, feeling awkward to the point her scalp went numb, "No...No need. I’ll just go make a bowl of noodles. It’s too late to go out now."
"Alright."
Hugo placed the milk in front of her, "Have some of this to hold you over first."
