    “Ma’am, I was informed you brought people to threaten Mr. Victor” he said carefully. “Please don’t make this difficult for us.”

    As part of Victor’s security detail, Maddox was responsible for ensuring Victor’s safety–he couldn’t let anything happen to him. But facing Sierra, his confidence wavered.

    Sierra looked him dead in the eye. “I’m not here to threaten Mr. Victor. But my mother is inside. I’m simply asking him to return her.”

    Maddox’s eyes flickered at the word “mother.” Now he understood–Susie.

    He’d already heard Susie hade to see Victor and that Victor had been injured. And now Sierra was here to take her away. But there was no way Victor would agree.

    After a moment’s thought, Maddox said, “Mrs. Wynn assaulted Mr. Victor. I’m afraid we can’t let you take her.”
