Chapter 56 The Birthday Party Of Harriet
Why am I not wearing the hospital doten anymore!!!
For a moment, the atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
Percival bquickly /brified, “The housekeeper bwas /bthe one who changed your clothes. However, I saw many injuries on your body. As a doctor, I don’t see gender, so don’t worry too bmuch/bb” /b
Kaylee let out a wryugh. What am I even worried about! I’ho toould even be interested in my battered body?
She shook her head and said. That’s not what I meant, but thank you nheless. By the way, where are we? Didn’t you take me to bthe /bbhospital/b?”
“I was afraid that the Goodridge family and Casimir might find out if you’re admitted, so I brought you to my bce/b.” Percival’s expression suddenly turned serious.
“You mentioned that the Goodridge family admitted you to the psychiatric hospital. What exactly happened? What grudge could they possibly hold bagainst /byou to treat you like thisb?/b”
“The psychiatrist at the psychiatric hospital said it was Samuel who admitted me, so it shouldn’t be a lie.” Raylee’s eyes were dead as she murmured, “I also don’t know why bhe /bdid that. I’ve been in jail for four years. Isn’t that enough? Does he want me dead to feel satisfied? I’m ba /bbhuman/b, too. We were bsiblings /bfor eighteen byears/b, yet he treats me worse than an animal.”
The rims of her eyes grew increasingly red, her longshes trembling. She looked sorrowful and forsaken, like a little fairy who lost her bway /bin the mortal world.
Her words and her trying to force back her tears suffocated Percival.
In truth, he had bsomewhat /bsurmised that Raylee’s imprisonment wasn’t simple.
Based on Casimir’s behavior, it was clear that he had been trying to make amends to his former fiancée ever bsince /bher release from prison. The reasons bwere /bsimple–either he still had lingering feelings for her, or there was more to her imprisonment.

An indescribable sensation welled up within him as if something had struck him right in the heart.
A a doctor, he bshouldn’t /bempathize with others too much.
However, Raylee bwas /bban /bexception. He had witnessed the gruesome wounds on her body, understanding the extent of torment bshe /bmust have endured to bear such scars.
That night, when he lifted her in his barms/b, her bfrail /bbody felt just like a broken porcin doll.
bShe /blived in agony yet also persevered, much like a resilient and unyielding de of bgrass/b.
The experiences band /bhardships she had gone through were truly heart–wrenching.
The night was slightly chilly, and the heat in the house bwasn’t /bwarm enoughb. /b
Percival offered her a bcoat /bto drape over herself.
“If you want to, you can bstay /bbhere /bbto /brecover from your wounds. You can even stay for a lifetime. This ce can be byour /bbsanctuary/b.”
A single statement left Raylee bdumbstruck/b. She looked at Percival in ba /bstate of shock.
Dr. Shapiro, we’re not exactly close…
“We’re bhumans/b. We get closer the more we mingle, don’t we? I’m just someone bmaking /bba /bliving boff /bbmy /bsurgical skills.prehend your family feuds, but I can save lives and heal the wounded, band no /bbone /bcan stop me from bdoing /bbthat/bb./bb” /b
“bThank /bbyou/b, Dr. Shapiro, Raylee finally said, her eyes inevitably welling up with tears.

Percival gently ruffled her disheveled hair. “Don’t cry. Take a look at this report. It’s the result of your blood tests that I had done for you.
That day, Raylee, leaning on her crutch, insisted on returning to the Goodridge residence.
She immediately rushed to the birthday bparty /bbupon /blearning that they were celebrating Harriet’s birthday at a brestaurant/b.
Inside a luxurious private dining room of a restaurant, Waverly and Samuel sang a birthday song for Harriet with smiles on their facesb. /b
On the btable /bbsat /ba beautifully crafted, bextravagant /btwo–tiered cake.
The scene was filled with ban /boverwhelming sense of joy band /bbwarmth/b.
Raylee forcefully pushed the door open.
They turned around, and upon seeing her, a look of surprise spread across their faces.
Samuel, in particr, was taken aback. He stood rooted to the spot like a statue.
I’ve admitted Raylee bto /bba /bpsychiatric hospital, so how did she manage to get out!
What he didn’t know was that after Percival bhad /brescued Raylee that night, the director of the psychiatric hospital was at a loss as to how to exin the situation to Samuel.
The director couldn’t afford to offend anyone.
Hence, he simply procrastinated, stating that Raylee had been staying in the psychiatric hospital. He decided to wait until he could no longer hide it, then let the two sides argue.
“Ray–Ray, did youe to celebrate my birthday? Wee.” Harriet stood up, brimming with joy.
During the four byears /bbthat /bRaylee was absent, bshe /bfelt mncholic every birthday. Thankfully, Waverly was there to keep herpany, making things easier for herb. /b
bWaverly /bsaid with a smile, “Raylee, I went to Goodridge Manor yesterday to invite you to Mom’s birthday party, but Grandma Suid
byou /bwere out bhaving /bfun with Jeremiah. Mom must be overjoyed since you specifically came back to celebrate her bbirthday/b. I wonder what gift you’ve bought her?”
At that time, Raylee was bleaning /bbon /bba /bcrutch, holding just two pieces of paper. Her hands were otherwise empty, so how could there be a gift?

Waverly was always bringing up what shouldn’t be mentioned,
“Consider my injured leg a gift. bAre /byou bsatisfied/b?” Raylee red at her coldly.
“No need for gifts. bYour /bpresence is enough.” Harriet quickly tried to smooth things over, adding, “I’ve already heard from Wavy that Ms. Suthend identally hit you with her car a few days ago. It was all an unfortunate mishap. Everyone is in high spirits today, so let’s not bring it up again.”
Having always intended to mend his rtionship with Raylee, bric /benthusiastically greeted her, saying, “Regardless, it’s at good thing byou’re /bhere. It’s been four years since our familyst gathered, a truly precious asion! Samuel, hurry up band /bhelp your sister to the tablet
bOnly /bafter hearing his name did Samuel break his bsilence/b.
When he saw Kaylee, he didn’t beven /bdare to look directly at her. His feet felt like they were weighed down by a tremendous force, making each step arduous, let balone /bhelping Raylee to her seat.
No need. Just a touch from such a person makes me feel sick!” Raylee eximed, her demeanor cold as ice. She limped into the private room with her crutch, approaching Samuel and throwing the blood test report at bhis /bface.
“Ray–Ray, what bare /byou doing? What is this? Why bare /byou throwing it at your brother’s bface/b?” Harriet ran over in shock, looking utterly confused as she picked blood btest /breport.

“Ask your dear son what it is. This is my blood test report, the proof that I nearly lost my sanity!” Raylee roared with all her strength and raised her crutch, sending it down toward his body.
“Don’t hit Samuel!” Waverly rushed forward to shield Samuel, taking the blow of the crutch on her body. The pain made bher /bserram out loud.
This was Waverly’s allure and tactic in having the Goodridge family wrapped around her little finger. She had mastered the art of ying the victim to perfection, monly known as self–imposed suffering for a bgoal/b.
The Goodridge family would unconditionally stand by her side for as long as she endured hardships and expressed her grievances.
Kaylee felt no guilt for hitting the wrong person while watching Waverly’s performance. Instead, she regretted not having hit thetter harder.
These siblings are as bad as each other. None of them are any good.
bSure /benough, the stunned Samuel instantly became full of vigor and determination when he saw his beloved sister being bullied.
“Take out your anger on me. Why did byou /bhit Wavy? Apologize!” he shouted at Raylee, his expression flushed with fury.
“I was indeed aiming for you. She was the bone /bwho foolishly jumped in the way. Tell her to back off. You’re the one who deserves a beating!” Kaylee red at him fiercely.
ric bsnapped/b, “Ray–Ray, have you lost your mind? You’re behaving as if you’ve been lit on fire. What bhas /bSamuel done to offend you that you want to hit bhim/b”
“Indeed. Ray–Ray, today is my birthday. Why are you and your siblings arguing? Could you stop lighting for my bsake/b?” Harriet persuaded.
Suddenly, Waverly’s eyes welled up with tears. “Raylee, today is Mom’s birthday. Can you bplease /bstop causing such a chimmotion?” she pleaded, her voice choked with emotion. “It’s all my fault. If only I bhadn’t /be back. The root of everything lies with me. Raylee, if you stay and celebrate Moin’s birthday, I can leave.”
After saying that, she turned to leave.
Harriet grabbed her arm. “Wavy, this has nothing to do with you. If you leave today, I won’t celebrate my birthday!”

Upon witnessing his wife and daughter being bullied, ric immediately stepped forward to reproach Raylee, “What’s so urgent bthat /bit can’t wait untilter? Do you find satisfaction in disrupting everyone’s mood?”
Observing the nauseating disy of affection between this mother and daughter, and faced with the usations of this entire family, Raylee let out a sarcastic bugh/b. “bYour /bson, Samuel, forcefullymitted me to a psychiatric hospital. In an attempt to escape, I jumped from the third floor and nearly lost my life. May I bask/b, Mr. and Mrs. Goodridge, would you consider this ba /btrivial matter, or a serious one?”
Upon hearing this, ric band /bHarriet were utterly bewildered.
They clearly couldn’t believe what they were hearing, let alone the bfact /bthat their flesh and blood bcould /bbmit /bsuch a heinous act.
Just as bthey /bwere hoping to get a bdenial /bfrom Samuel, he anxiously eximed, “Why did you try to escape? Couldn’t you have just stayed bput/b?”
It fell apart on its own.
“You scoundrel! Why did you confine Ray–Ray in a psychiatric hospital? Have you lost your mind?” ric questioned in Janger.
Samuel wore a grim expression, believing he had done nothing wrong. “bDad/bb, /bI only did bthis /bfor the sake of our family. Besides, I didn’t let them hurt Ray–Ray, only to confine bher/bb,/b” he argued.
“Didn’t hurt me? Raylee picked up the blood test report on the table band /bsmacked it onto his face bagain/b.
“Open your eyes wide and take a good look. This blood test report shows the results of the drug the psychiatrist at the mental hospital injected into me. This kind of drug can cause hallucinations and make one lose their rity of bmind/b. To bput /bbit /bbluntly, over time, I would be a fool!” bshe /beximed.
