Chapter 107: Life Is Getting Better
CHAPTER 107: CHAPTER 107: LIFE IS GETTING BETTER
Erhu leaned forward to pick up the ginseng casually tossed on the ground and said, "Hey, here’s a radish, though it’s a bit small."
After speaking, Erhu stood up and asked Mrs. Jiang, "Mom, how about making some shredded radish salad later?"
"Sure, I’ll make it if you want to eat it, but this afternoon you still have to come with me to the field to pull weeds." Mrs. Jiang walked over, intending to take the ’radish’ from Erhu’s hands!
Erhu let out a wail.
Nobody noticed Lin Sanshui’s eyes growing wide as he bounded over to Erhu and gave his nape a friendly smack, "You fool, what radish, this... this is ginseng!"
Such a large ginseng, Lin Sanshui had never seen one in his life.
A few years back, someone in the village did dig up a ginseng, but compared to the one in his hands now, it was like heaven and earth.
"What? Ginseng?" Erhu exclaimed, looking at the radish snatched away by his own father, "Dad, are you sure? How could our family possibly have ginseng?"
"I couldn’t be mistaken, just look at its shape, it’s almost human-like, which radish looks like this?" Lin Sanshui snapped impatiently.
Erhu, undeterred by the disdain, instead had his eyes shining brightly, "If this really is ginseng, then... how much is it worth?"
"At the very least, it should be worth a hundred taels." A few years ago, the family that found ginseng sold it for fifty or sixty taels, I heard.
This ginseng in hand was clearly much better in quality than that one, so it should be worth more.
"Wow, does that mean our family is going to be rich?" Erhu marvelled.
Mrs. Jiang also involuntarily swallowed a mouthful of saliva.
A hundred taels of silver, they probably couldn’t earn that much in a lifetime!
Even for Mrs. Jiang, who already had a balance of twenty taels, excitement was unavoidable.
"By the way, where did this ginseng come from?" Once the excitement settled, Mrs. Jiang remembered to ask.
Lin Sanshui looked at Erhu, who hurriedly answered, "I picked it up in the mushroom pile; ask Sanhu and Little Hu, they went up the mountain to gather mushrooms today."
When Lin Sanshui’s gaze shifted to Little Hu, he had a bewildered look, "I... I don’t know!"
At this moment, Sanhu, who just finished hanging shoes to dry, glanced nonchalantly at Gu Nian, who was behind him, and said, "We dug it up in the woods while picking mushrooms, Dad, Mom, isn’t it just a radish? Why are you saying it’s ginseng?"
The expression of pure innocence was doubtless to anyone.
Gu Nian didn’t think much of it either.
Lin Sanshui had no choice but to believe it was just luck at play.
In the woods where they picked mushrooms, not even the inner part of the mountain, they found such a large ginseng? One might say even divine beings were watching over them.
No one pressed Gu Nian for answers, which allowed her to breathe a sigh of relief.
Gu Nian didn’t know that once they returned to the room, Lin Sanshui pulled Mrs. Jiang aside to remind her, "Wife, we should treat Niannian well from now on. This child has had a hard life, but since she came to us, our fortunes have changed. It shows we’re meant to be, and heaven’s looking out for us."
Mrs. Jiang gave him a sidelong glance, "Did you even need to say that? Even before Niannian’s fortunes turned around, when she first came to our house and it wasn’t evident yet, I never treated her poorly!"
"My wife has a good heart; good deeds bring good returns. Treating Niannian well, not only did we get a daughter for free, but life at home is visibly getting better too," Lin Sanshui mused with emotion.
