At Theodore and Aurora’s camp, I was nothing but a burden.

I was too weak, constantly slowing the group down, and on top of that, I was painfully naïve.

That much was tolerable. The real problem came next.

The main gate of Graydon Palace.

A horde of monsters was surging toward it, but I stood in the way, preventing it from closing. If things continued like this, Graydon Palace would be overrun.

“There’s someone out there!”

“Fuck, Sinclair, get out of the way! We’re all going to die!”

Theodore, Nox, and Ethan’s shouts rang out like panicked screams.

I wasn’t standing there on purpose, nor was I trying to sabotage the defense. I simply couldn’t move.

Because my parents, who had gone out on a supply run, had yet to return.

I had taken Nox as a hostage, so the camp members couldn’t easily cast me out.

At the time, it was the only choice that made sense to me. Nox was a doctor, and Theodore’s group valued him highly.

But Nox didn’t get angry. Instead, he calmly tried to reason with me.

“I understand, my lady. But do you think your parents would be happy with what you’re doing?”

“…But.”

“Right now, you should be more worried about yourself than them. You’re not in good health.”

I bit down hard on my lower lip, torn with hesitation. Nox gently placed his hand on my shoulder. Then, Theodore’s urgent voice rang out.

“Damn it, it’s too late! Abandon Gate One! Fall back to Gate Two! We’re sealing it off! Sir Ethan, get them out of there!”

The monsters had drawn too close.

Which meant that Nox and I, still stuck in front of the gate, were moments away from being ripped apart.@@novelbin@@
