CHAPTER 106: RECRUITMENT

In the enforcer headquarters in Frostbane city, Anna and Layla accompanied with Bren, Fred and the head enforcer were moving through the hallway as the head enforcer was briefing them about the homunbis girls kept in confinement.

"After the mana stones on their foreheads were broken, they were liberated from the control of whoever it was controlling them. though one of them couldn’t survive after the control was broken. She died right at the underground tunnel." the head enforcer said.

"What’s their condition now?" Anna asked.

"They are now fully conscious of themselves. They know who they were before transforming into these beast forms, that they say the heretics called ’Homunbis’."

"Can they be turned back?" Layla asked.

"The alchemists and wizards scanned their bodies. They say the souls of the beast inside them has fused completely. It’s not possible to change their forms back. But a few days ago, they turned to their human forms by themselves, but not completely, as a few beast parts still remain."

"How is their mental state now?" Anna asked.

"At first, they were devastated, they used to be in tears all the time. one of them even tried to kill herself. But now the situation has been stable. Slowly, they have accepted themselves. But the pain of not belonging to any side, and the fear of being rejected by the society is still haunting them." The head enforcer said.

Anna and Layla nodded. They understood the gravity of the situation. Bringing them back to the society was next to impossible as no one knows when they may turn violent and start killing here and there.

But the major concern was that the people will not accept them. Many of them had lost their loved ones in this crisis. And learning of the homunbis being associated with the heretics would flare their anger and spark a rebellion against them.

After walking for a few minutes, they reached in front of a huge metal door with a circular wheel in between. The head enforcer nodded at the two guards at the door as both of them then held the wheel, channeled mana as the mana stone in between glowed bright.

They started turning the wheel as it slowly moved and the metal locks on the door creaked. After a few rotations, the door unlocked. The guards pulled it in front which opened a circular opening towards a bright room inside.

Anna and the others moved inside along with the head enforcer. The room was quite spacious like a hall and brightly lit from the numerous luminous stones on the ceiling and there was a door at the edge of the room which led to the bathroom area.

Inside the room were five beds arranged parallel to each other. there was a large table in the center which was the dining space. Other than that, the whole room was empty.

The five girls were seated on their beds. They were all in a similar white short gown. Though they looked like humans, there were still some visible distinct features like the hard shell like skin in two of them, long nails and canines in the wolf girl, yellow eyes with slit pupils and snake scales all over the body of one and long hair made of feathers along with talons and claws as feet in the last one.

"I know I can’t even guess what all five of you are going through right now. None of you wanted to be like this, it wasn’t your choice." Anna started speaking as the five of them looked up at her.

There was confusion, skepticism, as well as a trace of fear in their eyes, but still they calmly listened to every word Anna was saying.

"But you five can count yourselves lucky, as among all the women and small girls that were abducted and experimented on, only you five survived."

"What if we survived, we have to spend the rest of our lives in confinement like this. no one in the society will accept us." The snake girl said in a sad tone.

"What’s your name?" Anna asked.

The girl was shocked. No one had asked her name till now, all the alchemists and wizards called her S-1, beast girl and various other names. Anna was the first person to actually ask for her name.

"I-I’m Nely."

"Nely, I won’t lie and feed you with false hopes. The people will not accept you, that’s true. Why would they when you were involved with the heretics who claimed the lives of their loved ones, though not by your own choice."

The faces of the five of them fell immediately. But hearing Anna’s next works, hope reignited in their eyes.

"But what if I say, that there is way though which, over time, you can change the perspective of the people and maybe live among them normally as you used to."

"Can we r-really do that?" the wolf girl asked.

"I won’t say that it would definitely happen. But I can assure you that the chances of that happening is high, rather than doing nothing and living in confinement."

"What do we have to do?" the raven girl asked.

"Use the powers you got in return for losing everything to turn your fate. Join the enforcers, and fight the very people that turned you into this and destroyed your happy and peaceful life. Fight for yourself, take your revenge yourself, rather than waiting for some hero to appear. Become a hero yourself." Anna’s voice kept getting louder as she kept on going.

A fire burned in the eyes of the girls. They finally felt like doing something rather than wasting time here and take revenge from the ones that made them into this.

"Tell me. Will you five become the special enforcer force!?"

"YES!!" The five girls screamed at top of their lungs. They were fired up completely as their previous meek and afraid demeanor vanished and got replaced with this fiery and energetic stance.

"Then welcome to your new life. From now on, you’re no longer any Homunbis, you are officers of the special enforcer force."
