The Martial Mage
Chapter 94: The duel for supremacy
CHAPTER 94: THE DUEL FOR SUPREMACY
The training field was fully packed. In the special stands, Duke Danver, duke Argon and Hela were seated. Just below them were Drake, Florina and other military captains of the Ranatosh duchy.
Anna, Layla, Noah, Ruby and Shane were at the stands near the platform where the duel would take place. They were at the forefront and wanted to look at the duel closely, and the rest of the stands were filled with soldiers and enforcers. They were cheering for Luke as he was representing the Ranatosh duchy.
The news about the duel had spread like wildfire, and even the commoners wanted to witness this duel, but they were not allowed inside as there was not much space and for the security reasons. But they all waited for the results with expectations, and hoping to see mana stone recording later.
On the platform, Luke stood on one side with the black gauntlets adorned on his arms while Navajo stood on the other side, in a leather armor and his huge broadsword in his hands.
"I’m quite excited for this duke Danver. Seeing Luke’s performance yesterday, I think this duel will be quite the spectacle." Argon said excitedly.
Danver just nodded with a smile while Hela had a rotten face. Leo was still in bed with bandages all over. And more than that, Luke had left quite the trauma in his mind, he was shaking in fear whenever he remembers his punch.
Hela wanted Navajo to win more than anyone, and wanted Luke to face defeat so worse that he becomes unable to throw punches ever in his life.
"Do the honors duke Danver." Argon asked him to give the signal for the start.
"Begin!!" Danver’s voice reverberated in the air as loud cheers erupted in the stands.
Mana rushed to his feet and Navajo vanished from his spot, appearing right above Luke, his sword slashing down at him.
Luke immediate sidestepped as the sword fell on the hard concrete floor and broke a few tiles as it dug in.
Navajo didn’t wait and swung the sword upwards towards Luke, coming fast towards his chest. Luke jumped back and moved both his arm forward together, guarding his body from the hit.
The sword struck at his gauntlets with a clank and slid along them as sparks flew out. Luke went flying backwards from the force of the swing, coming to a stop after digging a trail along the floor as broken pieces of tiles flew along the way.
Navajo didn’t let Luke take a breather as he appeared in front of him again, the sword coming down at him again.
But this time, Luke didn’t waver, prana covered his gauntlets as he swung his fist upwards. It hit right at the sharp edge as sparks flew and the sword bounced back upwards. He didn’t wait and pulling his arm back, swung a punch at Navajo’s face.
Navajo was shocked at Luke’s martial intelligence, instead of evading and charging at him, he first deflected the sword, disbalancing his form and immediately followed up with a strike right at his face, when he’s unable to defend because of the sword’s momentum.
But he was not Argon’s disciple for nothing. Mana rushed to his arms and breaking the momentum, he forcefully pulled his sword back in front of him. Luke’s fist hit on the flat part of the sword as Navajo flew back from the force.
He pushed his sword on the floor, digging a trench on the platform and finally coming to a stop. He pulled the sword out and lifted it up in front of him, taking his stance. His lips curved up into a grin, as Luke was far stronger than he thought, and he was finally enjoying this duel.
"Hahahaha!! Amazing! I can’t believe that Leo and Luke are both your sons. One is a worm while other is like a dragon." Argon laughed out loud in excitement. Being a combat maniac, his blood boiled from this intense class.
Hela’s brows twitched when she heard such humiliating words for her son. But she couldn’t retort as the man who said such words wasn’t someone ordinary, even the emperor cannot force him for anything.
"Has this moron forgotten that he’s here to help my son?" she thought.
A runic circle appeared in front of Navajo, parallel to the floor on the level of his chest, and sand started pouring out of it as it stacked into a small mound. Mana moved out of him into the mound and the sand then started moving by itself and took the shape of a human figure.
Slowly the figure turned into Navajo himself. It was a sand clone, looking exactly same with even the same sword in its hands.
"Let’s level up the game." Navajo looked towards Luke as he said and then both the clone and he vanished from the spot, appearing on Luke’s both sides.
Luke jumped forwards as he evaded the two swords that fell right where he was. The swords then followed him as they came towards him again. Luke bent and evaded a slash from one and used his gauntlet to block the other.
"One Navajo was already a headache, now there’s two." Shane said holding his head in frustration.
The other four of them also had worry written all over their faces. The duel was getting intense with every passing second. The crowd watched with absolute silence as they couldn’t move their eyes away for even a second.
Luke was now getting frustrated with the slashes coming more and more fast. Prana rushed to his fists as an amber flame covered them. He jumped back and punched on the floor. Cracks spread as the tiles broke into pieces and flame rushed from his fist inside the ground.
Just when the two Navajos reached near him and their swords were about to slash at him, a pillar of fire erupted from the ground, surrounding Luke. the real Navajo was taken aback from the heat and voracity of the flame.
He stopped in his tracks and immediately jumped back, but the clone was unable to react and as he and the sword passed through the pillar, his body started turning into glass and within seconds he turned into a glass statue.
When the flame pillar died down, Luke appeared, walking out with slow steps. When he reached near the statue, he threw a punch at it while looking at the real Navajo at the distance.
With the hit, the glass statue shattered into pieces as it fell on the floor, pieces of broken glass spreading all around.
"True, let’s level the game up, it’s starting to get boring." Luke said in a cold tone as his lips curved into a grin.
