Chapter 98: Was your wife a dragon?
CHAPTER 98: WAS YOUR WIFE A DRAGON?
Duke Argon and Navajo were in front of their airship in the mansion garden as they were about to depart from the Ranatosh’s.
Duke Danver, Drake, Anna, Layla and Luke were standing opposite them to see them off.
"The time I spend here was quite the entertaining one Duke Danver, especially thanks to Luke." Argon looked at Luke with a smile as he said.
"How are you now son?" Argon asked.
"I’m fine now, the strain was not too much this time. thanks for asking duke Argon." Luke politely replied.
"Haha! That’s good then. I think you’ve got your heir now Duke Danver. I think the Ranatosh duchy will have the first woman successor in history."
"I never promised anything in your bet Duke Argon. You had just assumed that I accepted." Danver said with a stoic face.
Argon wasn’t much surprised as he knew Danver would say this, but Luke and the others were shocked, they never though Danver would act such sly.
Anna just laughed, she was relieved that Luke would still have a chance left then, but Luke and Layla were furious, they wanted to retort immediately, but they couldn’t as Danver was right, he really didn’t confirm on the bet’s condition.
"Hahahaha! Sly as always. I’m sorry son, I think your father wouldn’t keep the conditions of the bet, but I’m not like him, I am a man of my words. So, here it is." He passed a small glowing amber stone of about just a centimeter to Luke.
Luke was immediately drawn towards the stone as his eyes fell on it. He couldn’t remove his eyes for even a second and his hand moved towards the stone by itself.
Just when his palm reached near Argon’s, the dragon stone jumped up from his palm to Luke’s and started glowing bright, radiating a lot of heat, such that the ones nearby started sweating because of it.
Argon’s eyes opened wide, he was shocked to his core seeing such an intense reaction from the dragon stone. Being a Dragnos, and the descendent of the first mixed blood human with dragon blood, even he couldn’t induce such a reaction from the stone.
Confusion and curiosity flooded his mind. He instantly turned his head and looked right into Danver’s eyes.
"Was your wife a dragon?"
Danver was surprised seeing such a reaction from Argon and him charging at him with the question with such intensity.
"Absolutely not! She was a normal human."
"Where was she from?"
"She’s from the Regelak kingdom itself." Danver replied.
"What was her name?"
"Why are you asking so many questions about my wife?" Danver said, a bit irritated.
"I-I’m sorry duke Danver." Argon realized that in his excitement he was about to touch the sore spot of Danver, and apologized.
"I got a bit excited seeing the dragon stone react like this. I think Luke has dragon blood in him. this made me curious about your wife’s descendancy."
Danver and all the others were shocked at his words. Even he himself started having doubts about this matter now.
"My...my wife...her name was Cinthia Blackstone." Danver said, a bit hesitantly.
Argon went into thought, he tried to remember if there was any family with the name Blackstone, who might possess dragon blood. But even after thinking hard, he couldn’t think of anyone.
"Anna and Layla, can you come here for a minute?" Argon asked the two of them.
The two of them looked at each other skeptically, but then they nodded and moved near him.
"Move your palms forward." Argon said as he himself moved the dragon stone left with him towards them.
They did as he said and lifted their arms forward and opened their palms, bringing it near the dragon stone, but there no reaction. The dragon stone didn’t even twitch, it stayed static.
Argon was even more confused now. He looked towards Danver and was about to ask something when Danver spoke out first.
"They have the same mother. All three of them are mine and Cinthia’s children."
Argon nodded and didn’t say anything, he went silent, and went into thought again.
"Maybe it’s something related to his cultivation method. It was given to him by our ancestor, the first patriarch, Lord Glenn." Danver said.
Argon was shocked, he looked at Luke immediately, wanting his confirmation. Even Anna and Layla looked at Luke, they didn’t know about this too.
"It’s true." Luke nodded.
"I see. It’s still mysterious. I think we’ll know in time." Argon said.
All of them were greeted with one shock after another. There was a lot that was revealed in this short time, and they were taking their time digesting the facts as silence spread between them.
"Thank you for giving it your all. It was the most exhilarating and fun duel I’ve ever had." Navajo came forward as he moved his hand forward for a handshake to Luke.
"Thank you for not holding back too. I just barely won. It was a great duel." Luke shook his hand as he said with a smile.
Argon smiled seeing his disciple accept his defeat graciously and also surprised seeing him talk to someone else first, as he rarely had friends and never interacted with others.
"This is my, the patriarch’s sigil. Since you have dragon blood in your veins, you are a part of the Dragnos too. And whenever you need help, house Dragnos will come to your support." Argon gave him his special token, with the house’s sigil, a dragon curling its wings around a broadsword, which not many have received in history.
Even Danver was surprised at this. but then a smile spread on his face, Luke had single handedly doused the flames of conspiracy set by the Gandolfs.
"Thank you for this honor duke Argon." Luke graciously accepted the token.
"Haha! It was a fun trip for us. come to house Dragnos whenever you have the opportunity, you’ll be treated as a special guest, with respect equaling to a patriarch." Argon said to Luke, making everyone present shocked.
"We’ll take our leave now Duke Danver. I hope the next time we meet, you would have made your mind about the successor, and choose the most deserving one." Argon said with a smile as he glanced at Luke.
"I hope so too Duke Argon." Danver smiled and shook hands with Argon, saying his farewells.
Saying goodbyes to everyone, Argon and Navajo boarded their airship and it then started lifting off, the mana thrusters at its back released a blast and it zoomed away to the distance.
"I’m sorry master. I couldn’t win and shamed you in front of others." Navajo bowed with shame, his face depressed.
"You have nothing to apologize for. It was a fair match, and you fought very well, I must say, this was your best fight among all the others." Argon said as he smiled, comforting him.
"He was just too strong, and didn’t hold back at all. If I hadn’t stopped that punch of his, you would have died that time." Argon said in a serious voice.
Navajo was stupefied, he never imagined Luke’s punch to have such power, and his master never lies about such things. If he says this, then it definitely is the case.
"When we reach the dukedom, ask Carter to look into Luke’s maternal background. There definitely is something, I know it."
"Yes master." Navajo bowed as he accepted the order.
"And that rings at his back when he activated that form, I’ve definitely seen that somewhere." Argon’s brows creased as he tried hard to remember but nothing came to mind.
"I’ll have to see the ancient records. This is no ordinary cultivation system. And since it was given to him by the greatest wizard of his time, it is hiding a lot of secrets." Argon said, as his face got serious.
