Right after Dwayne stepped out, the suite door was opened again.

A tall, lean young man strode in.

“Bad news, Mr. Carroll. Mr. Barnard had a heart attackst night and fainted. He’s been rushed to Brookford for surgery,” reported Evander’s other assistant, Albert Gibson.

Evander’s expression changed.

Kurt Barnard was the director of the Economic Development Administration of Haverfield, the person in charge of the Brentford Project.

“Which hospital is he at?” he asked.

“The Cardiovascr Department at Eldencrest Medical Center,” Albert said.

“Let’s go.” He decisively strode out.

Albert quickly followed him.

“Albert, I need you to dig up everything on Vanessa, Nathan’s wife. Present a full report for me. And have Dwayne meet me at the hospital,” Evander narrowed his eyes and instructed before stepping into the car.

“Alright, Mr. Carroll.” Albert nodded and quickly left.

In Vanessa’s office.

No sooner had she returned than someone knocked on the door.

“Who is it?” she asked.

A nurse opened the door and said, “Dr. Dorsey, the patient in Bed 38 is asking for you.

Vanessa was stunned

The patient in Bed 387 Susanna?

“I’m not going,” she said without hesitation

“But… Dr. Dorsey, she was moaning in painst night and has been crying nonstop today, constantly begging to see you. We… didn’t know what else to do,” the nurse faltered, looking torn

“Let her Don’t you know I’m a surgeon? Besides, I just operated on a VIP patientst night. And you’re asking me to check on her? She’s Dr. Irwin’s patient. Go ask Dr. Irwin for help.” Her expression turned stern.

Vanessa was the hospital’s leading surgeon, and her position remained unchallenged. If not for Helen, she wouldn’t have performed on Susannast night.

“I’m so sorry, Dr. Dorsey. I’ll… go get Dr. Irwin right away,” clearly frightened, the nurse immediately apologized before heading out.

Vanessa smiled coldly.

She thought, “Now you’re in pain, Susanna? Didn’t you throw yourself at Nathan with every chance you got? Now that he has finally satisfied you, aren’t you supposed to be happy? Why are you crying in pain instead? Serves you right.”

She stretched, finished her work log, and was about to check on the VIP patient.

Just then, someone knocked on the door again.

“Dr. Dorsey, we’ve got a critical ectopic pregnancy case, and Dr. Irwin is currently in surgery. The patient in Bed 38 has developed a high fever. It’s quite urgent. Dr. Irwin wants you to go over and check on her.” It was still that nurse from earlier.

Scratching her hair, Vanessa let out a frustrated growl.

Susanna was such a pain in the ass! Enough was enough!

“Alright. I’ll be right there,” she said through gritted teeth. After all, only a few doctors were on the night shift.

Finally, the nurse left.

She could only put on the white coat.

The mere thought of seeing Susanna’s face made her stomach churn.

But she was a doctor, and Susanna was her patient. There was no excuse to shirk her duty.

She walked toward the ward.

From afar, she caught Susanna’s faint, soft sobs. For a split second, she almost wondered if she was in some deste alley, hearing the wail of a stray cat in heat.

Those sobs had burrowed deep into her bones, haunting her ever since the day her parents took Susanna in.

At first, she’d be moved by such kitten-like sobs, taking care of Susanna in every possible way out of pity

Yet it was those very sobs that had allowed Susanna to steal Nathan away, making him resent her and unraveling her life And now, those sobs had be her worst nightmare, and she just wanted to rip her own ears off whenever she heard them

When Nathan finally inoved Susanna out, she was so relieved, thinking she’d never have to face that hypocrite or hear her disgusting whimpers again
